Josh, I bought a Seiko SNA411 a few months ago. Style-wise, the 411 looks more like an Omega Speedmaster. It's got Seiko quality and quartz accuracy. The feature I find most useful on the 411, is the 6 O'clock subdial; which can either be used as an alarm clock, or set with a second time zone. I set mine on UTC; what pilots call Zulu time. The slide rule function will come in handy when the Zombie apocalypse turns off the electricity, and I can't get batteries for my calculators.

The navitimer is far more a pilots watch than a "nautical themed" watch. Pilots used them for all sorts of in flight calculations.

I had this dilema 2 years ago.spent days looking for the perfect alternative. I bought a poljot antartica limited edition 2nd hand from the early 2000. Nowadays there are new poljots that achieve a similar look to the navitimer, automatic and reasonably affordable.

I think the Citizen is a good second hand purchase as there seems to be plenty of them out there for sale at the moment. The Seiko certainly looks the business and is where the good money is spent if buying new from the watches you reviewed. The ORIENT is just a real odd ball as who needs a date wheel on a watch of this type! Great video, your knowledge and interest in the watch industry is superb. Keep up the good work.

As always interesting without being boring. The Seiko Quartz SNA413 is the best of the bunch. Why do I think this? Because the Sinn (usually pronounced Zinn, but who cares?) is up in the Breitling territory price wise. A used Navitimer wouldnt be any dearer, and it'd be serviced, or more $$$ off the purchase price. Remember, haggle like hell when buying new or 2nd hand! The Orient just shouldn't be on the list IMO, though I like Orient as an affordable, maninly mechanical brand. This one isn't at all Navitimer(ish). The Hamilton is trying to be, but for the over US$1,000 I'd spend my dough elsewhere. So, yes, the Seiko is Quartz, but it's got the look and saves heaps of money for other watches. After all, the Navitimer, and your comparison, is all about the look; a tough big watch with a slide rule.

Not a great watch but check out the Rotary gb03351. Good choices though. Although I've always thought that Seiko Flightmaster is ugly as sin, which ironically enough is the name of the best watch in this video (Sinn).

FYI: one order of magnitude larger is a factor of 10 times larger. Two orders of magnitude larger is 100 times larger. Three orders of magnitude larger is 1000 times larger. So, if something is n orders of magnitude larger, it is 10 to the nth power larger. Unfortunately, this terminology is becoming as mis-used as "exponential."

At the point when you get to the price about a 1000 $, it's not worth to look for alternatives in my opinion. If I was so obsesed with B. Navitimer, I would pick up 2nd hand one for a bit more nowdays. If it comes to alternatives, there are plenty of them. Nearly every quartz watch, at price about 100 will do. Quartz watches has big advantage over automatic onces. Accuracy being one, mine, powered by miyota differs 1 s per 3 days. It has 2 alarms, chrono, timer, time zones in 29 cities all over the world. I paid less then 100 , as it was reduced to clear, from 195 original price. All that in 2009, right now, after 13 years still sings beautifully. It has slide rule too.
