Excellent question. There are two things I would look for working from the shoreline. First would be any deep shade. Could be a group of trees casting a shadow, submerged laydown, etc. but I would focus on the deepest edge of the shade line. The other thing you can have a real advantage as a bank angler is have a rod ready with something like a soft jerkbait and keep an eye out for any type of baitfish being pushed. It could be right tight to the bank. On many of the waters I fish the minnows are starting to get blasted and tossing that jerkbait near the action is almost a guaranteed bite. Just keep scanning down the bank and it could be happening in just inches of water that an angler in a boat can’t reach real well. I hope that gives you a couple of places to start. You can get your license online and print up a copy to keep with you. Always keep two myself, one with my tackle and one in my wallet. Under 16 doesn’t need one in Illinois. The DuPage is good and Lake Chaminwood by the frontage road is a nice easy access public park you can shore fish as well.
