Top Five Reasons Your Older Style Washer Is Overflowing!

In this video I cover the top five reasons which may be leading to your older style Whirlpool/Kenmore/Maytag washing machine to overflow with water. This video covers the diagnosis and repair of each part. The washer in the video is a Kenmore 300 series machine but the principle applies to all direct drive washing machines. Awesome video man. I changed the pressure switch and tube and still high water levels. I did your step number 2 blowing into the tube, and it was clogged. Blew compressed air, and unclogged it!. Thanks again

All good information...However missing something here. First let me say I appreciate all the guys who post these videos as they have saved me a lot of money by doing so. With that said sometimes you need to go that extra step, like in this video. Tested the air flow from the top of the tube to where the tube connected to the tub. Yes you could hear the air passing. Now the step that needs to be added is when you blow through the tube and no matter how hard you do no air is heard indicating the air dome (what kenmore calls it) is plugged in some way. If everything else checked and can not pass air to the bottom then there is a blockage. Took about 30 min but ran across a guy who posted a video about this with his GE washer. He found a hack using a can of compressed air to unclog the air dome. I tried this and in a few seconds I heard a pop (not sure what that was but) I hooked the hose back up blew through it and I could then hear air flowing. Put it back together started it and the water levels stopped at the right point. Thanks again for the tips but please try and go that extra step saying Now if you can not get any air then it is plugged and try this, or that. Hope this may help someone else along one day.

You saved me a bunch of money for repairman. I was able to replace the switch myself! Only suggestion is showing how to pop the top off because I had trouble.

Tried ALL the steps ! (Still not working) Even went the extra mile and applied 2 hose clamps to both ends of the air hose. Even replaced the water level switch/sensor Checked all connections for corrosion too The back valve things work perfectly fine. It still refuses to stop the flow of water ! I can only override this by rotating the operation dial over to the next "click" Any suggestions??

Try replacing the hose. Perhaps a pin hole leak

Which terminals are you putting the meter on, where the red and tan wires connect?

Nevermind, if figured it out via the schematic on my Kenmore. Continuity between Violet and Tan indicates full and continuity between Violet and Pink (red) is empty.

If I leave the washer plugged in, start the cycle, allow water to enter the washer, remove the bottom end of the pressure hose and blow into it, the presure switch does click, stop filling and go to agitating the water. Once I stop blowing, it goes right back to filling with water. Does this mean that my pressure switch is working?

Yes, that means the pressure switch is working fine. Are u having issues with the washer over filling? If so, most likely, your valves need to be replaced

@@DuctTapeMechanicit could also mean that the water pressure in the home is low. One guy said his wife started the washer while he was in the shower, which cause low water pressure, and the washer overflowed.

My situation is EXACTLY like this. My valves function correctly in all other conditions, are the valves still failing? Or is this a different issue ? ​@@DuctTapeMechanic

My pressure hose keeps coming off. Should I use an adhesive to secure the hose to the switch?

Clip a 1/2 inch off the end that goes into the pressure switch. This will allow for a nice and tight connection

@DuctTapeMechanic did that, didn't work. I used a hose clamp and it worked for 5 loads and came off today.

@markbowen1364 I have seen small zip ties used as well. Obviously don't do laundry when you are not at home otherwise you could flood your house.

Just wondering what was the reason for the overfilling of this machine? I'm guessing it was the loose fitting hose on the pressure switch or connection off the washtub.
