Hi, very reasonable arguments. I have a Husqvarna 701 Enduro which is my best dual sport bike ever. I tested once a 250crfl, yes it can do good but so boring riding it. I know my 701 is not easy to ride, it's tall, it's like wood seat, it's ridiculously expensive ... but what a beast ! I used it to travel across France East to West through unpaved roads, fully luggage packed, no problem. I use it for dayly on road ballads as well. I got thrilled with it riding La Route des Grandes Alpes wearing the sides of tyres. I'm talking about sport, dual sport on and off road. I guess the 300crfl would not be far behind. Anyway I'm 64 years young and I could go for a 300crfl when I get old. By the way Portugese AJP PR7 is another good dual sport bike.

I'm a 49 year old man who loves his 2017 Kawasaki z125 pro. I take it on paved roads and dirt roads. I get more looks on this bike than I do my Yamaha mt07. And it gets on average around 117 mpg with a top speed of 68 mph. I've been looking at getting a honda crf 300l. New subscriber here, great videos man.

Nice!! If I had the money today, I would definitely buy this bike. I agree with you that it is the best of both worlds, on & off road. I have a 2002 Honda XR 250r & I love that bike. I've had Honda dirt bikes in the past & I gotta say that they have always been reliable. I ride my XR on the road a good bit (mostly back roads out in the boonies) . I live in West Virginia so they're are tons of back roads & tons of woods with all kinds of hill climbs & it goes everywhere that I've taken it. Even put it down a few times & it always started right up. Been riding all my life & it doesn't get much better than this. Really enjoyed your video. Hope to watch some more soon. Stay safe bro.

I own a 250 l since 2012. Great bike. Not a single issue in 9 years. I can follow almost any road bike in the twisty corners. In the dirt it will get you there but a little slower than hard enduro. Next year i am changing it for a AJP PR7. Road bikes look like tankers to me. Just love the freedom of little adventure bikes.

Love your positive spirit Andrew. I love my bike. A few mods to start with, handlebars, guards & Honda ($$!!) skid plate -it's robust and fits perfect- and I have added side and top Outback Motortek racks (for BC mountain expeditions). Also a sheepskin seat cover from Egli (Hey Canadians, Ontario family company. Quality!). Waiting on ordered Seat Concepts seat for trips but I have put on 200 kms+ in a day before I got the sheepskin, which I received very recently, and I felt some stiffness but no "monkey butt". Only once after a ride have I felt a bit sore but that's after 4200 kms, some 600+ off road (not single track). Thanks to you and all the other people sharing info about this new model of bike. Much appreciated.

Andrew, I have watched a couple of your videos and find them informative and very helpful in a search for a new machine. You mentioned "itchy Boots", I have been following her channel and have really a enjoyed them, she bought her Honda 250L (Savanah) used several years old and has put as you said a ton of miles on it, she then gave it a really great review, those videos have impressed me very much and that has sparked my interest in the CRF 300 L and to your channel as well. The information I have collected so far is suggesting to me that I have a keen interest in the CRF 300 L Rally to replace my 2015 Kawasaki KLR 650. Thank you very much for your straight foreword opinion and description of the many bikes you mention and the virtues of so many machines.

Thanks for the awesome comment. So a lot of people that I have talked to have wanted to downsize from the KLR650 or DR650 to the 300L/rally. This makes a lot of sense to me, I mean you have a smaller more nimble bike that is a lot more easy to manage off road as well. Just turning my Tenere 700 (same weight as KLR650) around at a dead end on a tight trail is a chore. With my little honda nothing is off the table, it doesnt matter how stuck I am or what. People look at the specs on paper and complain but have never ridden the bike. Everyone I know who has taken mine for a drive loves it. I have never once thought to myself "I could have done better if the bike had more power" it is capable of anything, I am the limiting factor.

Totally agree. I have a 2022 GS Adventure and love to ride a few hours off into the mountains and explore the twisties and dirt and see where the day takes me. However, most weekends, I ride about an hour to where the dirt starts and would like to have a lighter bike because I don’t need touring or twisty performance for there and back again. I was considering buying a dual sport and saw that I’d have to change the oils about twice a month. That would seriously encroach ok my time. So I thought about a Toureg 660, but really wanted a bare bones dual sport and landed on the 300l. I’m 6’2” and 250lbs so would need to replace the suspension, but I don’t mind. Also gives me the ability to trailer it out west to do harder rides like a COBDR or take it to trails I’ve never been on and that are definitely not going to be GS territory. The 300l I can practically lift with a couple of fingers and it’s got enough power off-road. Problem is sourcing one!

The perfect dual-sport and ADV bike! A real ADV bike needs to be capable to go from the garage, to the adventure, and beyond the adventure. No adventures are paved :P Took my 300L on vacation a few weeks back, packed my tent and gear plus a large comfy folding chair, had packed so that I could be out for 1 week or as many months as I wanted. The bike did everything perfectly. Met some guys on their big GS and they were limited to the paved roads and hard-packed gravel, I took long stints on the beaches, super narrow single trails, in the woods, and it just did it all with no problem. Cheap bike with tons of fun and capabilities. The few issues I have with the bike is the tiny gas tank but I just bolted on two MSR fuel bottles to it, so I always have some spare gas if I run out. The rear brake absolutely sucks (If anyone has a good mod for it, please let me know!). The kickstand is a big flop, but the Givi enlarged plate for it does the trick as it can now stand pretty securely in dirt and sand. That's honestly the only things that annoy me with this bike.

Nice review man, sounds like an amazing time! I wonder if the rally would be a little better suited, You seem like the exact market they were trying to catch with that bike. I say also that because the mods that are coming out in development. The crash bars seem to be perfect for rotopacks and it already has a slightly bigger tank. But yeah over all these bikes are amazing and you just cant do the some stuff with a huge heavy bike. I dont not know of any rear brake mods currently but I will look out for it.

@@MotorcyclesOffroad We only got a very small handful of the L models here in Denmark and I was lucky enough to get one. We got 0 Rally models because the 250R was a huge fail here, as the dual-sport market is basically non-existing. I love the overall look of the Rally but I'm way more into the L version! I spend all my teens on a Beta RR 50 so my heart is with the dirt bike look :) I made the mounts and placement of the MSR bottles so they will take the hit instead of my blinkers - and it works! As I have had a few dirt naps. The Rally will most likely hit the Danish market next year as they have had a huge request for them but they will go for 12.700 USD The L model is 10.300 USD and 2400 USD is a lot for a larger tank and LED headlights.

I got the CRF 300 LS. Also have African 1000, and all decked out great on road and gravel. Now the LS does everything else so much better, makes the woods fun again, the African made it real hard to get up next morning. Just plain hurt. Love having both, short ride the 300 LS gets a great high going,and some days that's all I want. Both Honda's are awesome.

Nice review. I sold my WR250R a year ago as wanted more power and better suspension. Considered the 450L but got an older Husky FE 501 instead. It's just so good to have that instant power to wheelie over obstacles and top suspension to handle the rough stuff. It's 10 times better than the WRR. I have done 30 plus rides in past 12 months on the Husky and not a single issue yet. Time will tell. Enjoy the 300L. Cheers

I have the 300l and 450l on preorder. I am keeping the 300l when the 450l, as it's a great performing dual sport and the maintenance intervals/cost of maintenance can justify me throwing 15,000 km in a season. 450l is mainly for the trail days that I will be trailering there while I camp and when I'm riding with a buddy whose visiting.

CRF 300L is a good motorcycle , but in that class of bike ( mid size dual sport ) a DRZ 400 i reckon has a bit of an edge over it . That extra 100cc's makes a big difference to both on road and off road miles

@@rebelarcher5450 I actually get a chance to ride a DRZ often since it's a bike one of my close friends has. I prefer the 300L. The 300L has a more smooth power delivery and it has a 6th gear. So 5 tight gears and a 6th wide gear where the DRZ feels since only 5 gears they are all wide to make it able on highways. The 300L feels more balanced, yeah the DRZ is heavier but it feels a lot heavier, maybe it's due to how tall it is. Where the seat height is more the 2" higher the DRZ has about 1" more travel in the suspension.

Completely agree.. true dual Sports Rock and are a hair more challenging than full-blown dirt bikes anyways. I lean slightly towards a KLX because of better feeling suspension but in my opinion these two bikes are the true dual Sports of today

I own a plated 2017 KTM 500 EXC-F. I've owned a KTM 690 Enduro R, a Triumph Tiger 800XC, a Yamaha Super Tenere 1200.... and many many other motorcycles like motocross bikes, other adv bikes, enduros, etc. Probably 20 plus bikes for 25 years. With that being said, I agree 100% with your chart and your explanation of it. I think this new 300 you have is a great dual sport. Are there better? Maybe, but this bike is a great true dual sport option and I think you have a finger on the pulse of dual sporting, despite what others might say...

I have just ordered my Honda 300l and can't wait to get on it. I have riden dual sports all my life. I do agree with everything you said. Except l would say the Ktm 690 enduro r would be a close second or maybe equal as a dual sport. Yes more expensive, yes not as reliable and yes stupid expensive. But if l had the money l would probably go there instead. Keep you the great work l love your channel.

I have the CRF300l and I love it. An argument can be made for the KLX, as out of the box, the suspension is far superior. I would also say these are fantastic platform (Barbie) to accessorize and make more dirt or tour worthy to fit your needs. I would agree the CRF and KLX are the best for beginner riders and for those new to dirt. For those who are advanced, want to compete or have more rugged dirt needs, well, they probably already have their bikes in mind.

Well honestly I think the 300L is far superior to the KLX300. SO the KLX300 is basically the same as the KLX250 with a bored out engine. The 300L is a stroked engine with a new transmission, slipper clutch, and is lighter then its predecessor. Tons of R&D went in to the 300L and rally.

Great video man, especially when you defined what a dual sport really is. I think lot of people don't get it yet. I ride a Kawasaki KLE 500 (1993) which is a basically a bit faster and cooler KLR 650 for European markets because KLR 650 didn't fit our emission standards for decades. It falls somewhere in between 60/40 and 70/30 if you have 50/50 tires.

i 100% agree with you about what a real DualSport Bike is !!!! and in this segment the 300L is for me the best one !!! i have a 450L which is sold as a DualSport but it is in reality an great OffroadBike with plates i would call it an performance dualsport... 80% offroad 20% onroad... every husky and ktm is the same.... they are all no DualSport bikes..... riding them every day on street is very uncomfy and the service intervals are also a point.... i had a 250L some year ago and it was the best bike so far... it was a "i can do it all" bike so the 300L would even be a better "i can do it all" bike for me..... you can ride it to the grocery, to shopping,to work, into the woods.... everything... and this in a very plush and comfy way.... so for me personally 300L

exactly my point! I feel a ton of people are saying just because their bike is super good offroad means its a better dual sport. In a dual sport I want a bike that can do it all, I have dirtbikes for the other stuff. If I was going to tell someone what to buy who could only afford one bike I would have to say the 300L or the rally based on how they want to use it on/off road.

Excellent video - - - and I may buy a CRF300L some day (as one of my riding buddies has done). I ride a "street legal dirt bike" - a Husaberg FE390 (2011 model with the 70 degree engine). In May of this year I rode it on part of the TransAmerca Trail (Nevada and Oregon to Port Orford). I totally agree, the Berg is simply a street legal off road enduro bike. As most of its type, it NEEDED a better seat for trips - a Seat Concepts in my case, PLUS extra foam on top. My Versys X300 would have been better for 85+ percent of the trip, but would NOT have made it in several places (mountain snow, bad sage brush flats to get around some other snow). Plus my Berg gets 50 mpg max -- and the CRF300L gets 70+ mpg (my Versys x300 gets 70+ if I baby it). If my Berg and my Versys X300 had a baby together, it just MIGHT be a CRF300L. I like your approach to an analysis of the CRF300L - it is what it is, a great dual sport for an intended purpose, with an amazing oil change service schedule. IF (big if) I stay off the clutch on the Berg, and ride, commute, do easy off road, I change the oil at 1500 miles (I know... too far), but the oil does not get clutch fibers or other debris and the oil is fairly clean after 1500 miles, with virtually zero metal bits on the magnet. All in all, the CRF300L is a better dual sport for general use, and the TransAmerica Trail (I've done 4 states) than short service dirt bikes - and your point is well taken. Fan boys will be fan boys, and I LOVE my Berg for really difficult stuff, but I believe the CRF300L has found a great balance point and will be a long time fave with many dual sport riders. Hey Ray thanks for the input. I would guess something as long distance as the TAT I would definitely want the 300L. It can ride through tough stuff (I have done it) and I dont want to have to change my oil on the road. With a single one gallon rotopax I would be able to get 200-240 miles between stops. Or the 300L rally goes from 2.1 gallons to 3.4gallons stock.

I have a wr250x, the supermoto version of the wr250r and it's great. I bought it new and put ~20k miles on it mostly street riding, commuting to work ~60 miles round trip 3 or 4 times a week. I put some 17" knobbies on it.. well they're more like 50/50 tires and started exploring dirt and gravel roads.. It's a fantastic bike. I kinda want a ktm 690, but then again, I kinda want the Honda 300. I'm keeping the 250 for now since I don't have a *need* to upgrade right now.

I cut my teeth riding a 1986 KLX 250 when I was In high school. Ive owned an XR650L, awesome machine but big and heavy. Ive owned a Husqvarna TE510 and then a TE450. Maybe the best DS Ive ever owned. I also have a 96KDX200 and a KTM 200XC. I really gravitate toward more off road than on road. The 300l really has my attention though. My only hang up is the suspension. I’m not an expert rider but I do enter the occasional Hare Scramble. I’m thinking about the WR25F and doing an out of state plate. (Can’t register an MSO bike in NC). The price though… If I could afford a new Husky FE350, that’d be it. If I do a WR250F, im in for 9K and then the cost of plating it in another state. You’re reviews are on point! Do you know of any current or up coming suspension mods for the Honda? Thanks for allowing me to ramble. Keep up the good work. Also… im really intrigued about the Pine Barrens. Hey man thanks for the comment, It seems you are a very well initiated rider with all of those bikes you have experienced. I have an exhaust, ECU, intake, and gearing performance wise and the bike rips! The cool thing is all those mods put the bike around the MSRP of a WR250r but performance wise is much better (people love the WR but I had one and didnt enjoy it much) Next you can look into YSS suspension front and rear. The standard models sprung for your weight, now your price is closer to the DRZ but you will have a bike that is imo better in every way then both of those bikes.

Nice video. I had a cb300f which I think has the same engine as the crf300l. I'm not a big guy only 5'10" around 200lb. So I'm not skinny either. But I loved the cb for it's light weight and flicabilty. I put a set of shinko 705's on it to blast on the fire roads. I do miss that bike and I would often bottom out the suspension and eventually bent a rear rim. I sold it off and do miss that engine. I'm wondering if the crf300l is what I needed the whole time. I am torn between the Kawasaki and the Honda. I have a Orion rxb250l and a triumph tiger 1050se so I'm looking for a middleweight all rounder.

Great video! I'm really tempted to get a 300L, how do you find the weight on the dirt? I'm currently on a 25 year old KDX 125 Sr two stroke. She's street legal so I do all my dually adventures on it. My mates ride- Crf250x, wr 450f and husky 300 and you would be shocked how the kdx is able to keep up with them 👌 I just know parts will eventually be an issue so I'm trying to find a modern version of my unicorn 😂 the kdx is 105kgs so my only conern with the honda is the weight. I've heard the weight is nice and low so it feels light 👍

I ride a CRF1000l, and will pick up a CRF300l is a few weeks. I love the Africa Twin, but it’s a beast to pick up when riding difficult off-road stuff, mud, deep sand, etc. I think a lot of the bike’s capabilities depends on the rider. I’m not that skilled, but there’re some folks out there tearing up single track on big bikes like the AT. Since I’m not that talented, I’m getting the 300!

Hi, I have a crf1000l dct as well, rode it on easy off-road, gravel, dirt, greens. But yes it's difficult to lift up, I would not ride alone off-road. So that I bought a Husqvarna 701, after testing it in the Pyrénées. I also tested the 250crfl, can do good but lack of power to have fun. Anyway, enjoy your 300crfl 👍

I've wanted a dual sport for years, what put me off was because people told me the maintenance was every 20 hours or so. I'm pleased to see Honda is in my opinion quite inexpensive for a brand new dual sport and they have anew model now in the crf300l. I read its 34 inch at the seat, I'm 5'6" so I think it's a good size, and the upgrade gives more power in guessing making it quicker, so I'm not sacrificing much getting the smaller bike i think I'll get one early next year.

Years ago I had a DR650, great bike but top heavy off road. 65 years old now and have had the CRF300L for 2 years. It’s much lighter feeling off road and priced right. I use it on unpaved roads, mountain roads and trails in the woods. This bike does it all. Now mind you I don’t ride it like a 15 year old on the motor cross circuit. If you’re expecting MX performance.........buy a motor cross bike. I ride Harleys for my main road riding.

@@MotorcyclesOffroad Absolutely, 650l has I think a 350lb weight limit.. Im 320lbs, add in the good low end torque it was a good choice for me. Even being 6'3 I still do the flamingo when stopped😁. When I was negotiating the deal for the 650 guess I was playing hard ball on the price, the manager (who hadn't seen me) told salesman to suggest the 250l do to lower price. When I sat on the 250l it squatted halfway through the travel (i looked like a normal dude on a pit bike😂) He saw me on it and proceeded to make a deal on the 650l

I live in Thailand where both the 300L and Rally are made. Unfortunately the 300L is built with short riders in mind, the seat height being 830mm, that is frigging low. I wish we had the tall version the Western world has received. I will maybe get the 450L though the service intervals are a bit off putting, then there is the Rally, nice and tall but too much plastic to break

Just bought my second CRF 300 L (11/3/2021)out the door for $5578.19 /with ABS. Bought from Southern Honda in Chattanooga TN. No transportation or dealer prep charges ever. They seem to have inventory where my local dealers did not. I had to wait 2 days for the Rally and two weeks for the 300L, did not want ABS but it was all they had to offer. I do have to pay Florida taxes when I tag it.

Yeah man most people who have KTMs or Huskys do. most of those bikes are not the drive to work all week or to the trial kinda bikes. But at the same time the performance you get offroad in a bike like that is top notch and cant be matched. There is nothing wrong with buying a bike for someones needs and being honest with what what they have, but I find so many people have trouble doing that.

Everyone has different flavors. I’ve had just about all of them. I have a 300l currently. I kept my 450l because I thought the 300 would disappoint. I was wrong !! Really like this bike. Im so happy I moved away from the KTM. They were fun but really a pain in the ass. Fit and finish sucked , maint. Yikes. Granted I’m an old dude but the 300 fit the bill perfectly “for me”.

Been thinking about getting a dual sport will definitely check this bike out. I've had many KTM's over the years and haven't bought one because the prices are a little out of control. My boss has a WR250 and I'm surprised to hear you don't like them. I'd be curios to hear why as it would probably be the closest to the Honda if Yamaha still made them

For me I don't like the height and weight distribution of the WR250. It feels a little tall for me in corners. The bike I prefer over the WR is the DR350Se. I had that one for years, more torque and the same seat height as the Honda 300L.
