There are plenty of other KZbinrs who haven't changed either. Chuggaaconroy, TheRunawayGuys, even ones I'm not as fond of like WatchMojo. I wouldn't say "one of the few" since a LOT of them don't change it up much at all.

Sometimes doing the same thing over and over isn't a good thing. WatchMojo may do the same thing all the time but it just feels effortless or machine-made while other Top X KZbinrs like RabbidLuigi and Fawful's Minion or Let's Players like Chuggaaconroy and MasaeAnela all make content that feels like they were made with love, time and thought behind every video.

My point was that the original comment of "the few KZbinrs who hasn't completely changed their type of content / style after a few years" was inaccurate since there are MANY, MANY KZbinrs who keep it pretty consistent.

Some more on the Battlefront II story. It turns out the "temporary removal" of microtransactions is also a result of Disney cracking down on EA. Given that The Last Jedi is coming out soon, they clearly don't want diabolical business practices tarnishing the Star Wars brand. Between this incident and the cancellation of Project Ragtag (Visceral's Star Wars game), I wouldn't be surprised if Disney revokes EA's rights to publish Star Wars games if they try to bring back the microtransactions for anything other than cosmetics.

@@KitsuneMp9 Say what you will about the new films, but they're not the only things that make this franchise. As far as I'm concerned, the various TV series (such as The Clone Wars and The Mandalorian) have been among the best things to come out of the franchise in the last 20 years, and I think modern cinematic Star Wars works best in that format. And on the video game front, Jedi: Fallen Order kept to its word about not having microtransactions (post-release DLC was free) and was genuinely good.

Seriously, whatever happened to unlockable content you didn't have to pay for? This is what made a lot of games great in the first place, the secrets and hidden content that you could access simply by performing special feats, playing the game to a certain point or inputting a cheat code. That was one of the best things about gaming, learning that playing a hundred rounds would unlock Mr. Game and Watch, destroying an inconspicuous wall would reveal secrets to the games upcoming sequel, and other stuff like that made games fun to mess around in. What happened to all that?

For me, it wasn't about how you had to pay to unlock certain plants, but it's because some levels are SO HARD that you pretty much HAD to shell out for Plant Food powerups (or buy some of the stronger plants) to even stand a chance to survive. Balancing around Plant Food's not a very good decision.
@oberonoberon67477 жыл бұрын
Did a short estemation (i already postet on anothe video): 22 premium plants for around 5,5€ -> 121€ and 10 plants for 100 gems each (100 gem ~ 10€, using 110 gem packs) another 100€ And i am not counting gems you might need to boost something here. sum total 221€ Comparison to Warframe: With estimate (only latin priv´ce as in the best pack, but not that you cant buy partials) geting the slots to posess every Frame/Weapon/... in Warframe would cost ~205. (Also not counting discounts you might wait for, which are up to 75%, which would bring you in the region of a normal Game ...)

It's kinda nice to know Nintendo still stands by their ideals. They focus on fun, creative games. Not crazy graphics or realism. They even make some of their free-to-play games so that paying isn't required... it just takes some waiting. Example: Team Kirby Clash Deluxe. You can buy the currency... or wait for it to generate over time. And if you DO buy currency, you get more when you collect the naturally generated currency. It's great.

Turns out, balancing your game around Plant Food, a gamebreaking powerup that comes in limited supply unless you shell out to get more of it over the course of a level, makes for absolutely shitty levels when you *don't* want to buy Plant Food.
@nathanhuerta44457 жыл бұрын
I just got back into Plants VS Zombies 2 recently and I don't agree with your statement that its unbalanced. I have Finished all the worlds up to the dark ages and are half way through doing the rest of them. As long as you have enough coins you are fine if trouble comes your way that you are not capable of fighting off. Getting coins is very easy if you do quests and use Marigolds in the garden. While I do wish I could unlock all the plants myself by simply grinding gems instead of having to shell out cash for some of the better ones, Its not a deal breaker for me.

Ok, TF2 isn't "Ruined" by microtransactions enough to be number 6. All of the gameplay is available to F2Ps at the start (Minus the admittedly bullshit backpack size). This should be number ten considering it doesn't impede gameplay like other games higher up on the list.
@rabbidluigi7 жыл бұрын
I addressed that in the entry. I also said that the microtransactions allow Valve to shift their focus within the game and ease up on the updates and work on any other franchises. It has changed how Valve run their business and I feel like it deserves its place.

@randomclustermissile87017 жыл бұрын
I too have nearly 2k hours on TF2 and I don't think microtransactions have ruined TF2 at all. It has massively changed the community and the market but if anything, they SAVED the game. You see you can live your life as a free to play and that's fair. You can have unique weapons and no hats and no-on can really judge you. You can also invest all your money into creating amazing cosmetic loadouts that people will awe over and create a million-dollar backpack. Or you can go the long route and trade your way up, the route that most people tend to take (but usually they start out with a few keys) and it's entirely doable. Just long and difficult and requires a lot of patience. The only thing I do find bullshit is the tour of duty tickets for Mann vs Machine (which I'm surprised you didn't talk about) because it is a different gamemode. You can argue that you do get items of monetary value out of it at the end of every tour I suppose but unless you're doing Two Cities it's really not worth it. But hell is it fun. People only really unbox because it's fun, they know it's bullshit and they won't get anything out of it but in the offchance they do, by God it's rewarding. I got two very expensive pro killstreaks from MVM (the RL and the MediGun) and sold them to get a 40 key unusual. Gradually I worked my way up to a 50 key unusual which I really wanted for my loadout. TL;DR microtransactions have not ruined TF2 in any way. They created a huge economy filled with people from the TF2 community and changed the way people spend their time on the game.

I still gotta love that Splatoon heavily focuses on actual skills just like the japanese shoot 'em ups (such as Touhou Project, Ikaruga, Deathsmiles and Ginga Force). Plus you just had to earn the in-game currency by actually playing the online matches and you can simply purchase the weapons and clothes you actually want like in the actual RPGs (such as Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Golden Sun and Persona including Epic Battle Fantasy).
@gravityhero22277 жыл бұрын

I liked when you had "in game" transactions, like LEGO games and old WWE games used to do. You could buy things, but with points or "dollars" won playing the game, and then you could use the studs or "dollars" at the in-game shop to buy characters, weapons etc. So some used to force you to "buy" things to progress, but it was "virtual" cash and was obtained by actually playing the game.

Microtransactions are the kind of thing that tends to make people hate business. I am not at all opposed to a company making money or profit. But there IS a limit. A good company is there to provide a service or create a product, not to milk people for money. And, while there MAY be some argument that microtransactions can be viewed as a service, they look and feel more like a company with their hand in your pockets trying to grab your cash without doing anything for it. It's bullshit.

It's also completely optional, and fairly easy to avoid. The Pyroland contracts are free. Random drops allow you to get weapons. Post Über update, micro transactions are considerably less evil.

I'm at the point where I absolutely will not go anywhere near or allow myself to get even vaguely interested in a game which has microtransactions. I've learned my lesson at this point. I can't think of one time when it's been worth it, and I've barely ever even paid for any. The few rare times where I had bought a microtransaction were like eating a delicious looking bite of food, only to find it's rotten inside- if you have the money it looks tempting, but actually partaking in it leaves a bad taste in your mouth and gives you no actual enjoyment.

Kyle the Reflectionist While I do agree that it did force you to spend cash atleast Nintendo had the decency to put a cap on the amount you can buy not to mention giving you access to more daily gem apples if you did pay. If it were EA, they probably would've removed the cap and the daily gem tree. Compared to the other entries i'd maybe consider giving it number 11.

Microtransactions are only profitable in the short-term. As companies like EA continue to go down the microtransaction path, the games will receive less and less hype and ultimately, will be those companies' downfall. Admittedly, pay-to-win could only work with casual games in my opinion, while core and hardcore games will eventually become reasonably priced, even if we have to deal with a few years of this bullshit.

Micro transactions are ok if it’s purely cosmetic.
@sterpogamer79587 жыл бұрын
that's why i like tf2. you don't even need to pay for all the hats, because after you buy anything from the in-game shop you can randomly get cosmetics. Then EVERY player wont have half his/her inventory full of unusuals, thus making those players who pay for them feel better, but the others who wont pay money for virtual hats can still enjoy the game with weapon drops and the few free hats that you get from achievments
