I am a former bookkeeper from our small town mega church. I was fired after insisting that pastor's daughter turn in receipts for over 5k in credit card purchases. My eyes were opened to the corruption, bit by bit. I didn't want to believe it, but I was fooled by the pastor I had loved. So many of these videos have opened my eyes to all the false teachings I have believed over the years, assuming my pastor was knowledgeable and had a heart for God. Turns out he was just in it for his and his own family's comfort. Every opportunity he had to address sin, his heart hardened and he and his family became more and more wicked, even to the point of turning away my 5 year old from vacation bible school. It hurt deeply, but now I see that God didn't want us to be in a false church. We now have a small group home church and are being spiritually fed. I appreciate these videos and am learning much. I was in police work for many years. My cops all used to say, "If you want to get rich quick, found a church or new religion and people will be throwing money at you." Years later when I worked for a ministry, I found out how true that was. So many people would send in donations. Their prayer requests were all along the lines of "I'm planting a seed. Please ask God to not let anything bad happen to me ever again." It's sad. I got very discouraged and out of the "business" when after taking these $1000 donations from people on Social Security, the pastor spent $80K on a new desk for himself.

The true payoff (and this is hard to say) - is to get the elderly to commit a good portion of their estate or trust when they die. We had one very nice older lady pass a few years ago and she gave $100,000 which helped pay off a 2nd mortgage of the church. Since being involved at my church - I have seen things change since covid. We still have good attendance but we have less stage decoration, less visible church impact and I think more outgoing to the community - which is what I want to see more of. Recent spending on new security gear for the building. But also, there are mission trips planned and in some cases, they are more like vacations than actual work (John Crist kind of has a funny video on that topic). We really have messed up what the intention of religion and following really is supposed to be. I have been to Lakewood and met Joel there. Nice place. It was basically what I said to him "You got a real nice place here".

It should be a federal law that any supposed not for profit their books have to be open to the public, including churches and small churches, etc. there’s so many of these slimy just disgusting pastors. I've only been listening to this bloke for a few days. Checking him out. So far he has made me grateful that there is someone out there putting it into prepective properly. There are a particularly large amount of people within God's people who do God's work , when he prompts us . Anything from a smile to giving. Even to just sitting near or seeing an up set person and making sure they are ok. I for one am good with hearing these things. Helps me to decern better. Don't let it grieve you cause you know , God said these things have to come to pass. They will get it, one day.

Most of the responses I get are demonic, wherein a Bible quotation is argued to be my interpretation (my enemies proffered an unintended compliment...how wonderful is our Lord). The cardinal rule in hermaneutics is absolute harmony: say there exists 10 Bible passages that address a specific topic. If the interpretation of one passage harmonizes with the other nine, the interpretation is probably correct. Otherwise, either the interpretation is flawed or God is fallible. Take your pick. A pre-tribulation rapture is congruent with all related eschatological verses, such as Jesus' statement, "My people are not appointed to wrath." A post-trib rapture conflicts with Jesus promise, for the seven year period of great tribulation is one of God's wrath. But as our dear Lord warned, no prophecy is of private interpretation. I had never heard a preacher quote from the OT book of Malachi until the day I joined a Pentecostal church. Neither had I heard an 'offering talk' before the main message. The newly appointed pastor insisted on us tithing 10% of our gross income to his church, quoting Malachi 3:10. He told me to stop giving to other Christian ministries. He bought a new Harley Davidson from church funds for his dad. His father didn't know how to ride a motor bike, so the pastor rode it everywhere. He spent money freely. He took several overseas trips every year, with a fondness for Disneyland. He gave money to bail out his friends' ministries as they were nearly all in financial distress. The church went broke within five years. The building was sold to prevent the lender from foreclosing on the mortgage. The pastor left the country to reside in the US. We were left to deal with the mess he created. It was at that time that I stopped drinking the Koolaid. Men, do not cede control of your lives to pastors. Your first duty is to your own family. If you don't look after them, nobody else will.

Our local church recently sent out a group text about how they aren't able to make ends meet and how the congregation needs to step up. Then they asked for help flipping an apartment the church owns. I volunteered my time (I actually have quite a bit of experience in this area), but never heard back. That's 3 times I volunteered my services and they brush me off, but they're always asking for money and talking to us like we're sinful because we don't give to them. Mind you, we have other avenues where we give, just not to them. I'm pretty bitter about it. The pastor makes $80k and his wife works full time and they have free housing. They weren't able to make a full payroll last week and I mean, I'm sorry, but join the club. We haven't been able to pay our bills for a year. We're on one income and live in an RV. And this church hosts Christian Yoga nights and just started a Frodo Bible study. So... Yeah

My wife goes to a church that only feeds milk. The "life groups" spend two hours discussing the sermon and really boast of the pastor but not much to Christ. The questions are not tested and feel good messages are common. My wife prefers this and I won't go. I want meat; I want to be challenged and dig for the gold in the Word. I agree. The Bible is telling us to help those in need such as the widows , and the fatherless as God our Father mentioned so very many times in The Old Testament. The book of James makes it clear not to set the rich people at the front of the church and bury the poor people to sit in the back of the church . And Isiah 11 preaches that Jesus will rule with righteousness that judges the poor when God’s kingdom comes to earth .

I used to be like them. Without going through the story of how I got out of this mess, I will just say one night God called me out and told me to follow his scriptures instead. I swallowed a bitter pill that night. Altho, I am still a continuist, I am fairly educated in theology and disagree with their teachings. This makes me a reject from either sides. I worked with a guy who made $100.000 a year. He drove the church bus though Sunday school classes. He drove an old rusty van lived in a run down house. I would say he was giving well over 50% to the church. If this was true he should have been a multi millionaire.

A very nice lady volunteer at our church died and donated a large sum. She didn’t need it any more. The man you noted here probably could have invested and reinvested and gave double just to the needy without going through the church. Churches pay staff, mortgages, tech, hvac utilities and throw parties with much of the money. That is not serving the poor.

I'm supporting a wonderful idea and I'm not sure how familiar you are with the Bible but we're also commanded to give to and support God's servants involved in ministry because they're spreading the gospel. Not only that, most missionaries are poor themselves because a good portion of their income goes into the ministry and assisting the poor in the community they're serving. In God's economy, saving souls is the most important thing we can do and support, as saving souls brings eternal life so we should never stop at just feeding the poor and needy. Worst case scenario, we should do both.. It isn't a one or the other type situation.

Make that make sense, as it's Biblical to do that for God's servants who spread the Gospel.
