That's not exclusive to Stadium 2. That was also available in Stadium 1. If you used certain nicknames, you would see alternative colors for each Pokemon, even though there were no shinies in Gen 1.

For those that are saying to set up rain dance, it would be safer sure, but it's slower than getting the thunder off turn 1 or even if 1 thunder missed and next hits (in which thunder is extremely favored to hit with a 91% chance to hit at least once in 2 turns, and even greater chance to hit at least once as more turns go on).

Gotta remember that this an extremely unlucky case. You have a somewhat high chance to hit thunder in the first place, and nobody expects to miss that much.

He can try doing the same thing 100 times and all of them will probably make him win. 99 of them if not all. There's a difference between what happens and what is yet to happen. And before the happening he made the right choice. Any speedrunner can tell
