How to change a car or truck A/C compressor clutch coil to save hundreds of dollars by not replacing the compressor. This is a step-by-step guide explaining the process. Make sure to buy a clutch kit containing the clutch, pulley, bearing, spacer and snap rings.
The A/C compressor clutch should be replaced when it is not engaging, it makes noise, seized, has a burning smell and won't turn.

Thank you so much, I just had to do this on my son's vehicle and this video was the best I found and the most helpful. It made it quick (except for the inside snap ring which was a huge pain to get out). Other than that it is pretty quick and went ahead and changed serpentine belt at the same time. Great video. I can whole-heartedly say this is a PITA to do while the compressor is still on the car. My advice, It only takes 10 minutes to get the compressor out opposed to fighting with it on the car for god knows how long. In my case it was bout 2 hours lol Spend the extra $100ish on a AC kit with a vac pump. U can prolly find them cheaper. And just take out the whole compressor to do this job. U will thank me later and that AC kit pays for itself in the long run and they ain’t hard to use. 2014 Nissan Maxima S here. Good luck gang!

Totally pointless...Then you need to discharge the ac system...fixing it in the car saves you from that trouble

Spacer leaves a gap to check with feeler gauge or a match book.

I don't see the reason to remove that second snap ring. You started at about 6:33 into the video. I did the same thing on my compressor, but after removing that second snap ring, I can't see how it had anything to do with holding the coil in place. Otherwise it's a good video.

You are correct. The small interior snap ring is there to secure the shaft to case. Do not remove.

I’m in a 2016 Honda Civic 2.0, I just got my AC fixed like last year and it’s blowing hot air. I think it’s the compressor. How would I be able to tell if it’s the whole unit or just the clutch? When I try to spin the clutch, it doesn’t move at all and I don’t hear it engage.
