@@EndlessTravels You are Wrong. In Japanese there are R sounds. Ra Ri Ru Re Ro based on the Hiragana Characters ら(Ra)り(Ri)る(Ru)れ(Re)ろ(Ro). I've learnt Japanese for 3 Years and these Letters don't sound like an L sound like You said. Then there is also the Y sounds Letters や(ya) ゆ(Yu) よ(Yo). So What You said was only Half Right.

Kage is pronounced "KA-geh" It literally means "shadow" in Japanese. It is Ryu's shadow of death

I honestly didn't know anyone pronounced it Rai-you anymore, especially after the proliferation of Japanese culture in mainstream and actual voicing of the character names in the games. Going to assume it's a troll because Ree-you isn't American. It's the closest thing most people can get to the proper pronunciation. People in the US said Rai-you just the same in the early 90s.

As others have pointed out, you also mispronounce Kage. It's exactly the same as the last two syllables of the Arashikage clan of ninjas from G.I. Joe, and literally means "shadow".

Everybody in that first generation pronounced it Rye-U. Outside of special moves, and some intros, we didn’t have any audio files of them talking, let alone saying each other’s names. Now they have entire cutscenes where they say each other’s names all the time and Ree-U is the closest thing the English voice actors could get to Ryu proper. Point being, it’s not a British pronunciation.

Kage is not pronounced as Cage. Correct pronunciation in Japanese is "Ka-Geh" which means shadow demon in Japanese folklore. That's why You see him with Fangs and Spikey tooth like a Japanese demon similar to the Oni.

The first time Evil Ryu appears was in the panasonic neo geo version of street fighter that features Akuma. If Ryu defeated Akuma with 2 consistent wins with no blocking and only kicks. After akuma falls his prayer beads break and a prayer bead rolls at Ryu's feet. The beads image fills the screen with the heaven kanji and changes Ryu into Evil Ryu. Gamepro magazine showed images of it occurring to confirm it existed. I do not know what versions this is available on but it is the 2d versions.

Oddly enough, the mispronunciation "Rah yuu" is the one that originated in America. The pronunciation "Ree yuu" is the Japanese pronunciation attempted with American phonetics. The original pronunciation was almost like your first try, but the "u" sounds closer to something like a "ü", not an "o".

I'm sure someone else will point it out but "Kage" is pronounced as two syllables. "Ka. Gay." Kage means Shadow in Japanese and is a reference to this being a shadow of Ryu.

In MvCI evil Ryu it's not just a skin. If you do a shin shoryuken with 25% or less health Ryu will become evil Ryu for a few seconds
