Just starting golf, just found your videos. I am seriously impressed. First video was on chipping, the one where you nip off the top of the sand mound. I watched it numerous times, picking up different pointers each viewing. I have a decent size yard, set up my pitching net, put down some carper grass (did not want to dig up the front yard). So off we go, failure. Hrmp, what’s wrong. Replay the video in the olde noggin, AHa, I was not moving my hips properly. Take two, now mind you, my landed balls looked they had came out of a blunderbuss, prior to your video. Practice swings, now the ball, amazing, the ball lifted, carried about 10 yards and sat where it landed. Hrmp, luck. Well, another shot, same thing, I kept striking the ball and the results were enlightening-happy. I have now gained so much confidence, accuracy, distance, loft control, I’m thinking about going public (golf range). Thank you so much!!!!! Now back to more of your instructions. They are outstanding!

That is just impressive Clay. I think I am often struggling with an inside takeaway. It is better to lead the club outside the plane in the backswing to come from the inside in the follow through. I have that sensation the club must come from the inside, so I start with an inside takeaway. That mostly leads to the opposite motion like casting the club and hitting the ball from the outside connected with other problems like flipping and leaving the posture. My biggest problem is handling the wrists correctly, to put the knuckles down. My club face is way too open at impact because I forget to put down my knuckles on the left hand. You have to consider so much things in the swing in a timeslot which is small like heck :) I keep working on it to become a Top Speed Golfer =)

Hi Clay all which you describe is true; however doing correctly all you said consciously is impossible. Hogan knew this and in these few words he told us the secret of executing a perfect downswing. He said that the trail elbow dynamically must lead the arms on the downswing as we rotate and stay connected. Don't resist our bod's responses and the rest is automatic. Dynamically speaking he said "The trail elbow "leads" the arm. The forearm and hand catch up with the elbow and the player's arm is extended relatively straight when he releases the ball from the ground." In his 5 lessons he was actually talking about how an infielder and a golfer both must use their trail elbow dynamically in the exact same way. He did not spell it out for us so we all had to figure it out for ourself. Cheers THE MAGIC TRAIL ELBOW OF GOLF

What is interesting is that if you slow down the video during this swing, the club head pretty much stays on plane. The dip from the club head at the transition from backswing to downswing is so minimal, but it makes such a huge difference.

Excellent drill to help with having the correct feel. The only problem I see unsolved is the rotation of the lower body. I struggle with it daily- as most of us weekend golfers do. If there's inadequate rotation on the lower body, where does that leave the swing...?
@TopSpeedGolf5 жыл бұрын
Hi, you may not be able to rotate your body because of the position of the club being steep. When the club isn't shallowed out then you'll need to make a compensation in the downswing to get the club down on plane. This usually involves early extension and not rotating. If you have the club in a good position and you're still not rotating then you're likely not getting a proper weight shift or casting the club. There are so many variables. It's hard to say without seeing your swing. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

I have some friends I have been spreading your channel to, too extend my group of friends I can play golf with on weekends. ONE MAJOR thing I have found common ground on with folks who want to be good at golf but take a lot of constant attention to keep them practicing is that if you were able to break down clips of your you tube videos into shorter duration and post them on the top speed golf Instagram or your own Instagram would be very beneficial. I think this would give you more success in adding subscribers and getting more people to traffic your channel. Your instructions followed by slomo edited scenes would be perfect.

The reason most people struggle with this is the same reason they can't throw a baseball hundred miles per hour. It is a flexibility issue. It is more comfortable to have a cupped left wrist vs a layed off left wrist especially when you are shallowing out the swing plane. To solve this I suggest a much shorter backswing along with the ideas you are suggesting.

Hi Clay, I ran across this video on the Internet. I wonder if the following thoughts also produce a shallowed out swing: On the downswing... 1, The left arm should be straight, 2. The back of the left hand points straight out and, 3. The inside of the right arm should be pointing up. Thanks. I appreciate your video and your comment. Gerry
@TopSpeedGolf4 жыл бұрын
Hi Gerry, thoughts are all relative. Those thoughts can produce a shallowing motion for you and not someone else. He left arm being straight or bent doesn't make much of a difference usually. The back of the left hand pointing to the sky is usually pretty good. The elbow of the right arm coming into the body on the downswing it also usually good. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor
