I love her dress. How I wish I'd been a teenager in the 90's, I discovered Tori way too late. I would have loved to have seen her live during that period.

God, I can´t believe how she was able to pull off such a spiritual song in a "tonight show". By far her greatest album was "Under the Pink".

The 90s were a truly different time. A song like this, an artist like this would never become big today.

OMG!!!! I bought this CD twice because I played it so much, I ruined it. Tori’s music really spoke to me when I was a teen. Still does today ❤

@ASeasonedWitch it was a live performance I caught of Tori on tv one night that sold me on her music... so uniquie - and so undeniably... strong! I don't know any other way to put it. The passion is a huge part of it, but there is a confidence with that passion that says, "this is the real thing" There may be no true definition of art, but I know I hear it when I listen to Tori Amos.

@1Zedhead Actually I think Little Eartquakes, Under the Pink, Boys for Pele and Scarlet´s Walk are the best ones. But in this last there´s a "band" concept that wasn´t in the first three (this, because you hear a lot of just piano in them). But I think Boys for Pele was the transition between that piano soloist and the band, so it´s got not too many, but beautiful, moments like "not the red baron", or "doughnut song". Even still, Under the Pink is my favorite.

@diegoarboli Yea, There are a lot of poignant moments in that album for sure. Sorry if I came across as a douche. It is great that you have a profound appreciation for the music, so much so to notice the transition she made from predominant piano to letting the band do their thing. I hadn't really noticed it until you pointed that out, so thank you.

Tori speaks in metaphors and irony; she is brilliant. So try to be a little more adept in matters of analyzing complex song structure and Tori-speak thereof. I would say she is being coy about the societal construction of love operating in roles domination and submission.

it is a song about God, but, not of love... "God, sometime u just don't come through, do u need a woman to look after u?"(...) "where u allways go when the wind blows?"(where is God when the things go wrong)...she is asking if God doesn't handle the heavy situations and if he needs a woman to take care of him...so it is not about her love towards God

Honey, do you even listen to her words, Tori is not a christian. Her work is one of the catalysts that enabled my conscious to escape the constraints of the christian paradigm. "Moses I know, I know you've seen the fire, But you've never seen the Fire, Until you've seen Pele blow"

Adam Smith Singer Songwriter ...9yrs later, When I was in h.s. & college in the 90's/2000's, even now, I’ve collected all of the singles/maxi/imports & yes that dress was used for @least 1 of the singles (most likely ”Cornflake Girl“ as I don’t have it in front of me), but also a 2 part-er, as well as @least 1 bootleg. As far as the performance, I think or wouldn’t be surprised if she had more than just one of her multicolored net dresses.

She is talking about a severe and possibly abusive alpha male head of house. I think so. However, there is nothing spiritually good about the song no matter how you look at it.
