They say Bill Belichick wanted to part ways with Tom Brady during the 2017 offseason and move forward with Jimmy Garoppolo. I think had Belichick gotten his way, he would’ve had more post-Brady success. Brady ran off in 2020 when it was clear the team wasn’t going to be the same and Bill got stuck with the mess that was left behind.

Could've said Ozzie Newsome for the Browns too. Never been the same since his retirement and the end of the Browns run in the 1980s.
@ashleighelizabeth5916Ай бұрын
Yeah but in that case it was a whole host of players that aged out or moved on causing the team to go into terminal decline. Frank Minnefield, Hanford Dixon, Ozzie Newsome and Ernest Byner all left that team within a couple of years of each other. Kevin Mack, Clay Matthhews and Bernie Kosar would be gone from the team within 3 years of Newsome's retirement as well. There were other Pro Bowlers on those teams that left about the same time as well. Those mid 80s Browns teams were arguably some of the best to never make a Super Bowl. And realistically they were better than the Broncos teams that beat them but Elway was the kind of QB you just couldn't account for on a gameplan or a stat sheet. Dude literally carried those Bronco teams on his back to the Super Bowls in the 80s.

Richard Sherman leaving wasn't even close to the reason for the Seahawks decline. His time in Seattle needed to end as he was becoming a locker room cancer. Not to mention he was in the final year of his contract and was asking for another big extension despite the fact that he was hurt and missed a lot of his last season there. Sure he had one good year with San Francisco and got to another super bowl, but he also got torched on the td pass that gave KC the lead in the 4th quarter and ended up being the game winner. His game fell off a cliff after that, and between that and his domestic issues that included a dui and criminal trespassing, he was forced to retire as a free agent. I'll say this much though about Sherman. He did say on national tv the 4 words that can entirely sum up the real reason for the end of the LOB dynasty. "Run the damn ball!"

AGREED!!! As I told somebody a couple of years ago. Dallas won 3 Super Bowls with him at TE and never won again without him. The 96 team still had the triplets and the O-line and Deion played full time on offense opposite Irvin, plus the defense was good enough to keep them in most games but there was no safety valve at TE to make the clutch third down catches over the middle anymore. Jimmy would have probably have found a replacement or a way to keep them competitive but the players could no longer cover for Switzer's incompetence.
