Indeed. He is not as "long" as some of the other runners, and he doesn't approach the race like a distance event, but like a sprint. Watching him, my thought early in the race is that he is not efficient enough--he won't be able to maintain that aggressive approach. And then he does. Pretty crazy. Fun to watch. Rooting for him.

Imagination. Pure imagination. The one thing we do know is that he did not reach the lowest time measurable. And most importantly we therefore know if he had not run the time he ran not one of the 5 1:41 runners would have been compelled to run 1:41. Nearly all the time trail blazers (Roger Bannister) will never be forgotten. Immortality Is a wonderfull thing. So, be the first person to fall with in thé standard deviation of the human limit and one is immortal. Sebastian will never be forgotten ❤

You are correct (Sebastian Coe would be running 1:39 - low, in today's environment..) However, he wasn't the only one. There was also a kid from Brazil that ran 1:41.77, at AGE 20, back in 1984.
@josedelnegro46
@josedelnegro46 3 ай бұрын
@@Visionary0001 1:41.77 is well with in the standard deviation of 1:41 on the right extreme of the Bell Curve. I would say that any run, jump, throw that is on either side of the standard deviation added or subtract from the approximate standard for any event is equivalent. That is how coaches, trainers, and scientists see it. To see it any other way is meaningless. Certainly the casual fan wants "either or" but once we approach human limits we cannot just keep adding desmile points to the right. Statistics say Sebastian Cole ran within the standard deviation of 1:41. That's good enough for me

Good response. Not all athletes dope.It's a ridiculous measure for doping just because someone is doing exceptionally well. I for one,Dont think the best in the world right now are doping. They are closed monitored,and tested.Not all take the risk. Finally, Wanyonyi would be very be very stupid to intentionally injest any prohibited substance. The risk is too high. @@duchesslakenya2612 Not really.. it makes sense that our athletes run the times that they run because of our population size and because of our advanced country metrics.. better economy, “better food”, better education, better training, better competition to churn out the cream.. etc etc. But if we doped like Kenya, then we’d be a threat to take 2-3 medals per event every year. I have watched several documentaries about Kenya and what it’s like for the average runner that’s still trying to make their way to the top.. even if they’re really good.. most, if not all of them can only afford to eat one meal a day.. and it’s not even a big meal.. I don’t do any kind of athletic training anymore and one meal like what they eat wouldn’t be enough to meet my energy/calorie requirements every day.. and I am not burning the kind of cals they are with those workouts.. no way anyone can properly train with that little food and make it to the top without supplemental aids like peds.

My two senses on Wanyonji. For most part 800m men is made up of three types of athletes: first you have the thoroughbreds the likes of Rudisha and Wilson Kipketer who focus largely on this specialtyand occasionally run a 400 or 1k for the heck of it; the second group are those who scale up from 400m to 800m and the best of this group is the Cuban Alberto Juantorena and Emanuel Korir and; the third group are the 1500m athletes who scale down to 800m ala Seb Coe. Then you have Wanyonji. Been keenly following track and field since Rome’s World Championship of 1987 and in my very humble estimation I think that Wanyonji MAY turn out to be the next Said Aouita. Said is the only man in history to run the 800 m under 1:44, the 1500 m under 3:30, the 3000 m under 7:30 and the 5000 m under 13:00 and I think with a 1:41 at 20, and going by how well he has been performing in the longer races especially cross-country (check out the Xcountry relay in Australia) and the recent Road Mile, if he decides to scale up, then we are in for a treat ladies and gentlemen.

This is no joke I had a teammate in High School that that ran a 1:44 in the 800. He won State. His name was Chris. He was a senior, we called him the man with no heart. After High School he was running at a practice and had heart problems. Later he was diagnosed with a whole in his heart and never ran completely again.

"He ran quicker than Sebastian Coe himself" ..... That was 43 years ago and the event has hardly come on at all since ! Just goes to show what an incredible athlete Coe was and without all the technological advances made in the last few years! In reality the event has gone backwards !
