Thanks John, good information. I'll be changing my engine oil soon. You really should do it once a year, as I only drive short distances.😮

thanks Udo. I quite enjoy doing the oil on our XK8's

Hi John and All. With regard to sump plug seals. The later plugs have a seal that can be replaced! You lever off the rubber seal and replace with new seals (they are not vulcanised as earlier plugs) the seals are available for pennies from the internet or your local Jaguar dealer. I was shown this feature by a very good Jaguar parts man. Saves a fortune on sump plugs if you change your oil regularly. Interestingly I always save sump plugs and have a large collection (I do not scrap any components removed from pre 2005 Jaguars). Going back through the Jaguar sump plugs I found 4 or 5 which featured the ability to change the seal once I was aware of the feature.

Great to hear that so many of my subscribers have had equally good experiences with GSF Autoparts

I have a GSF in East Grinstead. Never knew it was there as they tucked in the industrial estate!

Hi @benpenagonzales6014 Yes I know that feeling. Possibly GSF are not so good at self promotion. They have quite a lot of local depots but not a lot of people know about them. Maybe their locations are more aligned to supplying local garage businesses and so they are not as publicly prominant as they could be?

I’m heading to Middlesbrough tomorrow to pick up my first ever Xk8… here’s hoping it makes it 137miles back to Lincolnshire

Sounds like a ride height sensor is failing.

Another excellent explanation John. We have some good on line suppliers here in Australia too, but it would be good to have some of that generosity here too. Well done GSF! I've read up on the oil level saga over the years and I tend to go a little over the maximum mark. It seems that the design of the sump allows for a bit more without the risk of disturbing or foaming the oil. Also I read that the check of the dipstick should be about a minute after switching the engine off which Is not the "normal" way of doing things, it seems. I too use my annual check to remind myself to do the oil change.

Yes you are fine to creep just above the max on our cats.👍

Use a oil filter grip, it’s much easier to remove it. I borrow a grip from my friend.

Dave I LOVE 'most' of you videos (Jaguar only) disappointed you are doing the give away stuff like everyone else, I hope you won't do too much of it. I can win a 1000 pounds of parts for my XK8 that means I could buy a new bulb for the headlight, whoopeee. By the way Bah Humbug. What do you mean autofactor, I never touched her !!! Oh Yuck Pennzoil is the worst, STICK with Castrol plus I ALWAYS do an oil flush to remove all the gunge

Merry Xmas John. Just did an oil change again on my XK8. After rewatching your video I found that I do not have the part that funnels air into the alternator breather near the oil filter. I will now look for one, so thought you could tell me the parts name please? Cheers

The bit below the oil filter is XK8 XKR ALTERNATOR COOLING DUCT SCOOP. The pipe that leads up to the alternator is LJB1810AA - JAGUAR ALTERNATOR COOLING DUCT
