We fit, and do a short road test, of Adamesh Stage 1 exhaust system, fitted to my 1996 Jaguar XK8 V8
This multipart Video saga follows the entire journey of fitting an Adamesh stage 1 & 2 exhaust to my 1996 Jaguar XK8 called Purdey. Part 1 covered the decision process (Why I chose to buy this system) and an unboxing of the parts supplied. And the last part will be a before and after comparison and overview of the experience and results.
If you want to see part 1 first then follow this link
• Unleash the V8 Growl. ...
In this episode we remove the old rear boxes and tailpipes (After some effort!) We take a look at how 25 year old Original equipment exhaust parts have fared. And we go inside the silencer with an inspection camera.

I must say the Adamesh stage 1 exhaust made a huge difference, sounds much, much better than the standard factory exhaust. Well done!

As ever, a masterclass in good workshop practice. Purdey now worthy of the moniker, ‘growler’. Thanks John, looking forward to the next instalment. In other news, my XK8 is still in the workshop awaiting final metalwork and respray. Can’t wait to get her back again.

Great video John. I initially bought stage one but got a bit of a drone at about 50mph but also wanted it louder so then bought stage two which fixed the drone and gives a fantastic sound as you know.

That sounds darn good. I bought the Adamesh over axle rear system for my 2004 XKR coupe many years ago, it sounded awesome. I do wish I hadn't wasted my money buying the quad tail pipe tips though, they started rusting quiet badly within a month. I now have a 2007 XKR convertible and am considering the Elite rear system which I think sounds even better than the Adamesh.

The stage 1 makes a fine sound - growls a little bit more but not too much. I think I like it 🙂 Did I say, I love the stealth power of the standard-XK8? Hmmm... maybe I'll need to think again 😉 Thanks for the perfect comparison!

@@ToTheGarage I'm afraid, my biggest problem would be the strict Autrian legislation concerning noise emissions... 🤫 but there are a lot of things I have to do on my car, before I can think of an exhaust-mod anyway: gearboxfluid change (next week), tyre upgrade to P Zero (maybe this summer), dashboard conversion (maybe next year)... but always having some mods / improvements to look forward to is part of the joy, isn't it 😊

Thanks again John for very well made and informative video, you have good sence of what viewer wiches to see. I wonder if fitting only stage 2 would make a similar "sound effect" (quite adequate to me), but would give extra benefit of "deleting" the flat over axel section (better power and economy). Or would there be a reason not to do that ? Doing both stages 1&2 might make too much noise to my fellow people. I must confess, that after 1 year of watching every (?) TTG video, I got the courage to get my own convertible XK8 in last August. She's rust free, has got chain tensioners and now also leaky roof hydraulics renewed, but some smaller jobs to do still.. She's staying indoors over freezing Nordic winter for few more months.

Thank you so much for the kind words Jussi. I am toying with the idea of trying a stage 2 without Stage 1 just for the experiment. I don't know what would happen with sound levels but was. you say it would give the performance benefits. However it wouldn't look very pretty🤔 I will certainly be eventually going to stage 1 &2 as I have done it on my previous car and the sound plus the extra push is addictive😁 keep that cat wrapped up👍

Looks fine...but I think the rear hanger would probably benefit from the arm having the bend, where it engages in the rubber, bent to a greater degree, and maybe, just to ensure it maintains position, a weld putting on the bracket to the exhaust itself...

I had the Adamesh Stage 1 on my 2001 XK8 convertible but there was a nasty drone around 40 to 50 mph. Eventually had it returned to XKR standard and still looking for a better sound without the drone. Would be very interested in Stage 2 section only comparison.

Always remember that its rare for a well fitted exhaust to resonate or boom. Particularly one with no fabricated boxes, Its usually, the sound the exhaust makes causing a body panel or a loose component to vibrate in sympathy with it. However if it is just an exhaust note that you don't like at particular revs, then absolutely, exploring other permutations is exactly what you should do. The switch from just stage 1 to just stage 2 might give you that? not done it myself though.

Great sound comparisons John. I love the use of the sound meter. I am glad you have not got any boom. I suspect mine is the rear bumper - soon to be sorted.
@ToTheGarage
@ToTheGarage 3 жыл бұрын
You will cure it 👍👍. I think as soon as folks recognise that the exhaust causes parts of the car to boom and resonate, rather than itself booming (except in very rare cases). then its just a matter of tracking it down or trial and error before they find and resolve the culprit. Im enjoying your videos by the way👍

@@ToTheGarage I have not completely cured it but it is about 10% of what I started with. I am wondering if the supercharged engine creates a slightly different frequency. It seems that there are many varied experiences ranging from no boom at all to unbearable sounds coming from various places. Mine was certainly all coming from behind me.

Nice one John. Previous owner fitted what I believe to be a stage one setup in my XKR4.0. It's very boomy/reverberates in the cabin around 50-60mph. Might that be resolved with some sound deadening in the boot or is it likely to just be a crap install?!
@ToTheGarage
@ToTheGarage 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Doug. Could be a poor install or solid rather than soft rubber mount, or tail pipe not clear of the bodywork. or rear wings have been welded and the sound deadening pads not replaced or the Harmonic damper above the tail pipes is missing. (See Secrets of the XK8 ep 85 out tomorrow)

I am very tempted to do a stage 1 Adamesh mod but I am concerned about "drone" at motorway/freeway speeds. My wife and I take long driving holidays ( in what I think is the best GT car ever ). I normally cruise at about 70 mph ( 112 kph ) and enjoy listening to the stereo. Is there any significant difference in interior noise at 70 mph with a stage 1 kit ?
@ToTheGarage

Its not significantly louder as long as the engine is cruising rather than pulling. When pulling you can hear it more.
