If you want more V8 bubble you are probably considering modifying the exhaust system. This video shows the options available, how we fitted Stage 1 and the lessons we learnt whilst doing it. Hopefully it might help anyone doing the same job.

Another very informative video and your car sounds all the better for your efforts, I was lucky that when I purchased my 2001 XKR the previous owner had already had a complete Miltech system fitted, and as luck would have it I live less than ten miles away from a motorway tunnel that is 3/4 of a mile long. Still smiling after six years

@captbirdseye4594, thank you. The miltech system is pretty much the best exhaust system for those with a bigger budget. Good buy and find. Lucky to have a tunnel so close. I have to make do with it touching off the buildings. Still puts a smile on my face too, regards Damian

Hi Damien, as I said in a previous comment on the stage 2 fitment, I am still having issues with noise levels inside the car. (I have an XKR 2004 Convertible) There is a significant boom between 1500-1750rpm to the point where it is uncomfortable, I am told the external noise is not too bad. In trying to find a solution I have put sound deadening pads throughout the boot and on the panel that protects the fuel tank, these have made a difference but not to a point where I’m happy. I am now going to try to fit some more panels behind the rear seats and in the area where the hood folds into when down. Though I’m not sure how to remove the carpet trim that sits behind the seats but will have a go and hopefully this will make the difference.

David, unfortunately it’s the negative side to removing them. I have a coupe and have added additional sound and thermal insulation in the roof. I need to open the window to hear the exhaust properly. Might worth considering adding some sports silencers in the intermediate over axle section. Interested to hear your solution, regards Damian

Hi Damian, my XKR already had both stage 1 and 2 when I bought it and I added Noico sound deadening in the boot and rear seat area to reduce booming noise in the car. There is still a bit of drone at 50 mph in 5th but we can live with to get the V8 burble at low revs and the V8 roar when the pedal gets floored😈 Later cars (mine is 2002) have different rear pipe hangers as you show - they have smaller rubbers which are attached to a metal plate which bolts into 2 captive nuts. To lower my drivers side tail pipe by a few mm I had to add a spacer washer to each bolt - the rubber didn’t have the 3 holes that yours gave.

David, thanks for the information about MY2001 car onwards having shimable hangers, much appreciated. Thinking of adding sound deadening to the boot lid as currently sounds quite tinny and hollow when closing, regards Damian

@@ODRModurol the sound deadening is quite heavy - certainly make boot heavier to lift open

Great informative video. Do you know if stage 2 over axle pipes are compatible to xj8 xjr?

@nayjag7610, I think the over axle pipes are similar but not the same. Sorry, don't know for sure and can't be more helpful, regards Damian

I'm on the fence if I want to do a stage 1 or not. The car deserves to have a better sound. I have a 2006 coupe with only 30k miles and think Im more interested in preserving its stock purity other than adding after market parts. Speaking of sound, your stage 1 and 2 sound examples sound like they are under water and not representative can you point me in the direction of some better sound examples?

Nick, stage 1 is really easy to reverse and fit the OEM silencers hence it’s popular even with those wanting to keep their car long term originality and value. The Adamesh video is about as good as you get here is a link below, regards Damian kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZpCac613qNWId6c

Nick, it’s even easier on the MY2005 onwards cars as the rear rubber hanger is fixed via an adjustable bracket. Therefore, it should be easier to align the exhaust trims with the bumper. Stage1 isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, regards Damian
