Garry, what a great video of what looks like an outstanding museum that's a must-see for any Civil War aficionado. I'll definitely get down there. I know my wife won't mind, because there's a gift shop. 😃 That said, I hope there aren't people whose heads will explode because of a museum showing the Confederacy. History is history. It's very important to study it, not cancel it.

Very sad that there is animosity towards the Confederacy. The war was fought over so much more than just the "slavery" narrative. I'm sure you understand this, it breaks my heart seeing our history being destroyed and mocked. God bless to you and your wife!

I was there many, many years ago. So glad that they were able to reopen after Hurricane Katrina. I think I remember reading that they might be closing after that due to funding. Hopefully they are on sound footing now.

Live a life without going to the big easy? I hope you do get to go at least once. Maybe not try to challenge Mardi Grau, your first, second, third or fourth trip.😅 Late fall is good time to go, things are cheap for a big city (to my perception.) Check weather, about a month before, keep a little play in the date of visit, and you can visit the big easy on days that are like perfect spring days up north, and it will be late October/ early November with snow on the ground up north.

GARRY !!!! I was there a year ago I stumbled across it because it's behind the WWII museum which is also amazing. If you read the stories that go along with some of the items, they are truly riveting! A lot of the Unit Flags were given back to the museum after the turn of the century They were taken at the surrender of the confederacy Great Video!

I found this museum 8 years ago while attending a reunion for my first ship, USS Dahlgren DLG-12, while serving in the Navy back in the early 70's. It is probably the best Civil War museum I have been to.

I visited there about 7 or 8 years ago but couldnt find it on my last visit, I was afraid it had been closed down. I dont live far from NOLA so need to visit the museum again. One thing that struck me with the uniforms was how small they were. Another thing, look at the building and it very much looks like a church inside which I imagine was deliberate in 1891.

Kids these days don't get taught about the civil war. It's up to the parents to do it. Nether one of my kids didn't know anything about the civil war. They was taught about civil rights. I had to teach me kids about the great Robert E Lee and the others. I have took my kids to Shiloh. They seen the nice graves of the union soldiers and the mass graves for our southern soldiers. It's best that you teach your children and not the school. That way they won't get taught the lie's they telling.

Well, I'm a Pennsylvania man, and I had two great-grandfathers, who served in the War. Yes, you read that right... I was a Civil War reenactor, (42nd PVI, Co.B. "Bucktails ") for over ten years. I personally don't have any animosity towards those who fought. We could talk forever about the moralizing of the Confederate cause, the slaves, the reasons, why's, and wherfores of everything. Yes, it was a horrible time, and the best side won. If, you're going to find out where you're going... You've got to find out, where you've been... If, we forget our past, we will end up repeating it.
