It’s a catch. The flat will be cheaper to buy but the ground rent and leasehold charges will be astronomical. Biggest con I’d say when estate agents won’t advertise the hidden costs but will only highlight the sale price and the central London location to woo buyers until they realise I can’t afford this but it’s too late when you sign on the dotted line and you can’t sell it either because you later realise it’s too expensive to pay a solicitor to extend the lease. When it comes to leasehold properties serious reform is needed in this country because management companies and their freeholders are fleecing leaseholders and getting away with it.
