For a long time I learned about Judaism from men who went to Baptist seminaries and preached in Baptist churches. I was “this” old when I realized that if I want to know what Jews believe...ask someone who is Jewish and actually practices the religion. There are so many misconceptions perpetrated by Christianity, fundamentalists in particular, that could be dispelled if they just asked.

There are a lot of problems with what Tovia Singer is claiming here. The New Testament identifies Jesus as the figure of Isaiah 9, especially as the light of verse 2 (Matthew 4:12-16, John 7:41-8:12). When Jesus chose where to live as an adult, he first chose to live in Nazareth, where he'd spent most of his childhood, then chose to live in Capernaum. As alluded to in Matthew 4:12-16, Nazareth is in the region of Zebulun, and Capernaum is in the region of Naphtali. It's unlikely to be a coincidence that Jesus chose to live in two locations that align with the locations highlighted in Isaiah 9:1, in the same order. Most likely, Jesus was identifying himself as the figure of Isaiah 9. The claim that Hezekiah fulfilled the passage is very unlikely, for many reasons. The reference to an eternal kingdom in 9:7 is most naturally taken as a reference to eternality without qualification. Taking it as a reference to only Hezekiah's lifetime is less natural. You could argue that Hezekiah's fulfillment is ongoing or will be completed in the future, but, then, you can't object to Christians taking a similar view of Jesus' fulfillment of the passage. Furthermore, the destruction of the implements of war referred to in 9:4-5 didn't occur under Hezekiah. The contrast between what's said of the Isaiah 9 figure in 9:5-7 and what's said of Hezekiah in 39:8 is stark. The Isaiah 9 figure is connected in various ways (language, themes, etc.) with God in Isaiah 2:1-5, the eschatological figure of Isaiah 11, and the Servant of the Lord in later chapters. You can't reasonably apply all of those passages to Hezekiah. And so on. Search for an article titled "The King In Isaiah 9 Isn't Hezekiah" at Triablogue for further discussion of the many problems with seeing Hezekiah as the fulfillment of the passage. Regarding the tense of the language in Isaiah 9, there's widespread acknowledgment in modern scholarship, and not just among conservative Christians, that Isaiah and other authors often used what's referred to as a prophetic perfect. It's similar to how, in modern English, we often say "Done." when somebody asks us to do something, to convey the fact that it's as good as done, even though we haven't yet completed what's been requested. For example, the Jewish Study Bible (New York, New York: Oxford University Press, 2014) renders the reference to an exile in Isaiah 5:13 with the future tense, even though a note on the same page says that Isaiah probably wrote in the past tense (note on verse 13 on page 776). And it makes sense for a prophet to speak in a present or past tense about a vision he's seeing or has just seen or some series of ideas that just went through his mind by Divine revelation, for example, since that vision or set of ideas is ongoing or has already been completed. It doesn't follow that the fulfillment has already occurred. Think of Numbers 24:17, for example. Furthermore, we know that some of what Isaiah 9 refers to wasn't yet accomplished at the time Isaiah wrote. There hadn't been a destruction of all implements of war, eternal peace hadn't already occurred, etc. That's the best explanation for why the Isaiah 9 passage doesn't use personal names, like Hezekiah, and doesn't make reference to other entities, like Assyria. The lack of such names of Hezekiah and his contemporaries, which are used elsewhere in Isaiah (e.g., in the chapters just before Isaiah 9 and just after), is likely a result of the fact that the passage is about future events. And verse 1 refers to what will happen to Galilee in the future, thus proving that Isaiah is interested in the future in this passage. The Jewish Study Bible referred to above acknowledges that the passage may be using the prophetic perfect, and it refers to how "Most later readers (both Jewish and Christian) understood the passage to describe an ideal future Davidic ruler, i.e., the Messiah." (note on verses 1-6 on page 784) And that Jewish Study Bible renders the last verse of this Isaiah 9 passage with a future tense: "The zeal of the Lord of Hosts shall bring this to pass." (784) Even if we thought Hezekiah fulfilled the passage in Isaiah 9 (we shouldn't), it could have a secondary application to Jesus that would be evidentially significant in support of Christianity. It's unlikely that Jesus just coincidentally was a descendant of David, was so closely associated with Zebulun and Naphtali, in that order, etc. In other words, this passage is evidence for Christianity either way, because Jesus' life would be highly unlikely to align so well with Isaiah 9 by natural means, regardless of whether Jesus is the primary referent of the passage or fulfilled it in a secondary way. To read more about these issues and other related ones, search for the following articles at Triablogue: "The King In Isaiah 9 Is God" "The King In Isaiah 9 Isn't Hezekiah" "The Light Of The World, In Word And Deed"

Tovia Singer, I know that you were focused on the closing of the passage, but you also made references to the passage as a whole: "the question is what's going on in Isaiah 9" (5:14), "Isaiah chapter 9" (5:26), "Isaiah 9 is all very, very poetic" (11:13). You keep referring to the earlier context leading up to chapter 9. You cite the language about a "great light" (16:11) at the opening of the passage, and you apply it to what was done through Hezekiah. So, your focus on verse 6 doesn't change the fact that you appealed to other material as well. The later verses of the passage are expanding on what's said earlier about that great light. It makes no sense to claim that Jesus and/or early Christians saw Jesus as the light of Isaiah 9, but didn't see him as the king referred to at the close of the passage. In addition to the connection between the light and what follows in the passage, the king is described as sitting on the throne of David forever. It's clear that the early Christians considered Jesus a descendant of David and the Messiah who would rule on David's throne forever (e.g., Luke 1:32-33). The New Testament's references to Jesus as the light of Isaiah 9:2 and the Davidic Messiah imply that they thought Isaiah 9:6 applies to Jesus. The fact that they don't explicitly apply it to Jesus isn't significant in this context. Whether the New Testament quotes a verse and applies it directly is only one line of evidence among others that we have to take into account. An application of Isaiah 9:6 to Jesus can be implied without being explicitly stated. My earlier citation of John 7:41-8:12 illustrates that point. In 8:12, Jesus is identifying himself as the light of Isaiah 9:2 in response to objections related to Davidic ancestry (7:41-42) and his Galilean background (7:41, 7:52). The reason why Jesus responds to such objections by identifying himself as the light of Isaiah 9:2 is that doing so addresses both the Galilean objection (discussed at the opening of Isaiah 9) and the Davidic ancestry objection (discussed at the close of the Isaiah 9 passage under consideration). In other words, Jesus doesn't separate the closing of the Isaiah 9 passage from its opening, but instead portrays himself as the son of David who's a light to those walking in darkness in Galilee. To suggest that Jesus was viewed as the light of Isaiah 9:2 and the Davidic Messiah of verse 7, but without having verse 6 applied to him, doesn't make sense.

This is God's Truth: The Tanakh and the New Testament are the same book. They tell a unified story of humankind's creation, fall from God's grace, and redemption through the Jewish Messiah. The Lord told me this: Humankind has an inherent sin nature; let’s call it a heart problem. “They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one.” (Psalm 14:3) This heart problem cannot heal itself. No matter how hard we try to do good, our sin nature inevitably makes us do evil. King David knew he needed a new heart. “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. (Psalm 51:10-11) God wants humankind to learn that we have a heart problem. So, because God communicates with His creation through the Jews, God gave them a covenant. This covenant provided the Jews the opportunity to make themselves righteous in the eyes of God by following the Law. If they could do this, they would become a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. So? Where is the promised Kingdom? Obviously, it has not come to be. But why? Because God is Holy and Righteous. And God’s holiness requires that the Law be followed perfectly in word, thought, and action. “Ye shall therefore keep my statutes, and my judgments: which if a man do, he shall live in them: I am the LORD.” "Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill? He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart." (Psalm 15) But the Jews struggled and failed to keep God’s statutes all the time. Why? Because -- like God mentioned -- humankind has a heart problem. And they did not realize the purpose of the Law is to reveal our sin nature to us. Yes, the Law is a mirror. A few special people, however, knew we could never be righteous before God under our own power and strength. Listen again to the words of King David: "Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit… The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart." (Psalm 51:12-17) Yes, God wanted the Jews to become aware of humankind’s sin nature; that we must come to God with a broken and contrite heart. Have the Jews done this? Sadly, no. And the Lord is not pleased. "There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death." (Proverbs 16:25) Yes, throughout history, Jews continued to try to earn their own salvation even though God continually warned them that this was arrogant and prideful. "Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight!" (Isaiah 5:21) "The haughty looks of man shall be brought low, and the lofty pride of men shall be humbled, and the Lord alone will be exalted in that day." (Isaiah 2:11) Yet the Jews still believed they could succeed. They ignored the fact that God told them they would always fail. “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags…and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.’ (Isaiah 54:6) But why have the Jews ignored HaShem? Unfortunately, the Jews had learned to enjoy the social status that came from being God’s chosen people. Yes, they began to love their culture. And, quickly, their culture became part of their individual identities. So, the Jews looked to preserve and even exalt their culture at the expense of God’s Truth. They ignored the fact that God said only He could fulfill the covenant; that only He can bring salvation. The salvation of the righteous is from the Lord." (Psalms 37:39) "On God rests my salvation and my glory. (Psalms 62:7) "I am the Lord, and besides me there is no savior. (Isaiah 43:11) Yet Jews still didn’t believe God, even though He PROMISED He would bring salvation to the world. "I with the voice of thanksgiving will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will pay. Salvation belongs to the Lord!” (Jonah 2:9) Moreover, the Jews disregarded God when He said He would come into the world as a human and fulfill the covenant Himself. “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6) “I will also walk among you and be your God, and you shall be My people.” (Leviticus 26:12) And when the Messiah was thirty years old, God anointed Him as High Priest from the order of Melchizedek. But when God came and walked among them, the Jews didn’t believe Him. Not even when He rode into Jerusalem on a Donkey’s colt to be anointed as King as was foretold. “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; : behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.” (Zechariah 9:9) So, the Jews rejected their own Messiah because they looked to preserve the status quo. And the Messiah was cut off. “…for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people…” (Isaiah 53:8) Because the Jews liked their special place as God’s chosen people. They’d come to love their culture more than they sought God’s Kingdom. Truly, they loved their own lives more than they loved God… And their pride refused to allow them to see that humankind has a heart problem. They did not understand the Messiah came first to bring a Spiritual Kingdom; that people need a new heart before anyone could enter the promised physical Kingdom. But to those who believed Him, God offered salvation. They would be justified by His blood. Yes, God would take the punishment that humankind deserved upon Himself. Yes, the world’s High Priest, the Messiah would die for others just as was foreshadowed. “Because he should have remained in the city of his refuge until the death of the high priest: but after the death of the high priest the slayer shall return into the land of his possession.” (Number 35:28) And this death would be a blood sacrifice just as God requires in the Torah. “With the blood of the sin offering of atonement he shall make atonement for it once in the year throughout your generations. It is most holy to the LORD.” (Exodus 30:10) “The blood shall be a sign for you, on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you…” (Exodus 12:13) "…and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all… he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, " (Isaiah 53:5) But the Jews insisted on trusting their religious authorities more than God despite God’s warning not to do so: "Yea, the stork in the heaven knoweth her appointed times…but my people know not the judgment of the Lord. How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of the Lord is with us? " (Jeremiah 8:7-9) But God shall remain faithful to His promises and shall someday give the Jews and all people a new heart. A clean heart that rejects sin and allows people to follow all of God’s commands, all the time. “And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them an heart of flesh: That they may walk in my statutes, and keep mine ordinances,...” (Ezekiel 11:19) But first, God will express His anger at His chosen people. "Then My anger will be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them and hide My face from them, and they will be consumed, and many evils and troubles will come upon them." (Deuteronomy 31:17-18) But why is God so angry with His people? “For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.” (Psalms 22:16) Yes, because they rejected their Messiah and refused to anoint Him as King. “He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.” (Isaiah 53) And they continued to reject the Messiah even after His death and resurrection from the dead, knowing the blameless and innocent Messiah died in their place for their sins - just like God said He would. “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed …and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; (Isaiah 53) But, stubbornly, pridefully, the Jews continue to reject their own Messiah, the only path to salvation. Moreover, the Jews disregard God’s timeline. “Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.” (Daniel 9:24) During this time of Jacob’s Trouble, the Jews would be shaken from their unbelief and forced to cry out to God for help. And the Messiah, God in the flesh, shall return. "I will not hide My face from them any longer, for I will have poured out My Spirit on the house of Israel," declares the Lord GOD." (Ezekiel 39:29) And the new covenant He brings shall move the responsibility of the Jews earning their own salvation and give it back to God. “Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel… I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts” (Jeremiah 31:31-34) And God gives the Jews a new heart which no longer has a sin nature. And God’s Kingdom on earth begins.

Free will is granted to all people. If one desires to turn to the path of good and be righteous, the choice is his. Should he desire to turn to the path of iniquity, the choice is his. A person should not entertain the idea held by many fools, and what is claimed by some doctrines, that at the time of a person's conception or birth, the Holy One, blessed be He, decrees whether he will be righteous or a sinner. It wouldn’t be said in the Bible- be thou holy as God is holy. In James it wouldn’t be said the prayer of the righteous availetg much and so on. And Jesus wouldn’t preach to be meek and loving and serving the poor if righteousness counts for nothing. Looking at the later chapters 38-39 we see that Hezekiah had his weaknesses as well. In addition, it was the Lord who slew the 185,000 Assyrians with His angel and he deserves the full credit and glory for that. You suggest that we read Isaiah 9:6 that God(The Father/Almighty) is given all those grand titles and then at the end calls Hezekiah, "Prince of Peace." That seems to make little grammatical sense. It's superfluous unless the passage is about God Himself. God bless you.

I’m a Christian but I do NOT support the trinitarian doctrine. Is it true that the “mighty God” in Isaiah 9:6 is a inaccurate translation? I was told that the translation would be impossible from Hebrew and it actually says “mighty warrior” or “mighty one of God”?

They may either become righteous converts and accept all the commandments or retain their Noahide statutes without adding or detracting from them (Maimonides, Laws of Kings 10:9).

Yachid is oneness that does not tolerate plurality (singleness alone) while Echad is oneness that allows plurality. An example would be Genesis 2:24- Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. The one here is echad (composite unity). Genesis 5:2-Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created. now if you read Genesis 31:11-13, the Angel of the Lord said He’s the God of bethel and reading Genesis 35:1-7, God told Jacob to build an altar at bethel unto God that appeared unto him and in verse 7, God was revealed unto Jacob and that word revealed is plural. Genesis 1:26, Genesis 3:22 the word “Us” “Our” was used by God. Genesis 48:15-17 when Jacob was blessing his grandchildren, he called the God of Abraham and Isaac then said the Angel whom had redeemed him from all evil bless the lads. Now, that word bless is singular right? So that Angel must also be the God of Abraham and Isaac. Isaiah 9:6 - For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. The phrase mighty God is important here as in Isaiah 10:21 God was called the mighty God by Isaiah. According to Isaiah, there’s no other god besides God and no god shall be formed after Him. Now, if there’s no god besides God Almighty and no god formed after the Almighty and God is the mighty God, therefore, the child to be born must be God because He’s called the mighty God just like the Almighty was called The mighty God. This passage Isaiah 9:5 is speaking of the future as if it has already happened as it’s a prophecy. Numbers ch 24 vs 17 - I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not nigh, There shall step forth a star out of Jacob, And a scepter shall rise out of Israel, And shall smite through the corners of Moab, And break down all the sons of Seth. Well here that word rise should be rose in the past tense Hebrew brothers and sisters and the scepter shall rise should be translated as has risen. It also shouldn’t be translated as shall smite through the corners of moab but should be has smitten through the corners of moab. Let’s see what Targum Jonathan says, I’ve seen him, but he’s not here now, I’ve looked at him, but he’s not near, when the king arises from Jacob… this is future tense, the Hebrew word for past tense is translated as future tense. And when he’s anointed he will slay the nobles of moab and will rule over all man kind. So the targum is doing exactly what rabbi Tovia is accusing the Christians of doing wow. Let’s see Rambam’s view on numbers 24:17- saying this is about the messiah as He would gather the dispersed of Israel from all the corners of the earth. Balaam compares him metaphorically to star that passes through the firmament and the ends of heaven… son of man again if you read further just like in Daniel 7:13. It’s saying numbers 24:17 is talking about the same person that will come in the future in the clouds of heaven like the son of man but the hebrew is past tense. According to Rabbi Tovia, Isaiah in Isaiah 10:21 called God the Mighty God and later called Hezekiah mighty God as well. In the same book of Isaiah, God will not share His Glory with any man.

Isaiah 9:6 King James Version 6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. the term god is a matter of authority not divinity, as Prophet Moses is even called 'elohim' of pharoah: Exodus 7:1 King James Version (KJV) 7 And the Lord said unto Moses, See, I have made thee a god to Pharaoh: and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet does this literally make him God almighty (Yahweh) of pharoah? no prince of peace? Matthew 10:34 King James Version (KJV) 34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. Luke 12:51 King James Version (KJV) 51 Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division: everlasting father? Matthew 23:9 King James Version (KJV) 9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. Therefore Isaiah 9:6 has nothing to do with prophet Jesus.

God is eternal, so is it imperative that the Word given to prophets will not always be strictly past, present or future tense in linguistic expression(I agree generally it should have some time reference, but a celebration or very certain event is prophesied in the past tense). Even though Isaiah lived in the time of Hezekiah, the prophecy still speaks not of a man as God(not Isaiah - according to rabbinic interpretation - no man will be referred to as God), unless of cause he can be both man and God. The prophecy of Isaiah 9 veers very strongly within the boundaries of your own Hebrew interpretation towards a son has been born and be called Mighty God. Isaiah most likely spoke of Messiah as God, not Hezekiah the man. As a side note: Someone can prophecy an event like September 11th 2001 just before 27 July 1989 and write it in the past tense, because it is so clear and certain. If you that prophecy is in the past tense and can be proven that it was done in July 1989, will you believe that it was prophetic Rabbi Tovia?

You need to be aware, that the "New Testament" where you got that verse from, is NOT scripture that was given to mankind by God. The ONLY scriptures He ever gave to mankind, is the Hebrew scriptures (Tanach) that He gave to Moses at Mt. Sinai. He specifically told us that those scriptures are ETERNAL (i.e. STILL in effect and binding TODAY - a LIVING document!) and that we are NOT to follow ANY other teaching than what is in those Hebrew scriptures. Christianity IS another teaching, therefore we are NOT to follow what it teaches - God's orders! Also, God ABHORS human sacrifice (a purely PAGAN ritual!) therefore, the 'Jesus dying in a cross for people's sins' narrative, just DID NOT happen. PLEASE do the research on how the false, pagan, man-made religion of Christianity started, and you WILL discover that it absolutely DID NOT come from God, Creator of the universe.

@@janishart5128 In Leviticus 5:17 says: If anyone sins and does what is forbidden in any of the Lord’s commands, even though they do not know it, they are guilty and will be held responsible. In this context, even if the individual doesn’t know the commandment that he transgressed, he is guilty! Everybody knows at the bottom of the soul what is right and what is wrong, what is righteous and what is unrighteous and what is legal and what is illegal, because Elohim gave to us discernment to judge the situations. Hence, do not matter if the act is accidentally or not, since the action is characterized as transgression of God’s law, so this is sin, which condemn to hell for all eternity. Leviticus 17:11 - For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one’s life. Elohim became flesh and made himself an atonement for the forgiveness of sins and to take out the sin of those who obey his word, as long as it is necessary to believe and obeying his precepts and commandments, otherwise will be a liar, 1 John 2:4-5. And I affirm to you: Jesus is the Supreme Sacrifice that died for our trespasses that we do not need to do animal sacrifices anymore and, consequently, we can escape of hell condemnation, since blood is life, and if was not the animal´s blood, would be the sinner´s blood, Hebrews 10.

And they said, So do, as thou hast said. [6]And Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah, and said, Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes upon the hearth. [7]And Abraham ran unto the herd, and fetcht a calf tender and good, and gave it unto a young man; and he hasted to dress it. [8]And he took butter, and milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree, and they did eat. [9]And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent. [10]And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him. [11]Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age; and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women. [12]Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also? [13]And the LORD said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old? [14]Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son. [15]Then Sarah denied, saying, I laughed not; for she was afraid. And he said, Nay; but thou didst laugh. [16]And the men rose up from thence, and looked toward Sodom: and Abraham went with them to bring them on the way. [17]And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do; [18]Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? [19]For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him. [20]And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous; [21]I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know. [22]And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the LORD. [23]And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked? [24]Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein? [25]That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right? [26]And the LORD said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes. [27]And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord, which am but dust and ashes: [28]Peradventure there shall lack five of the fifty righteous: wilt thou destroy all the city for lack of five? And he said, If I find there forty and five, I will not destroy it. [29]And he spake unto him yet again, and said, Peradventure there shall be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for forty's sake. [30]And he said unto him, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak: Peradventure there shall thirty be found there. And he said, I will not do it, if I find thirty there. [31]And he said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord: Peradventure there shall be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for twenty's sake. [32]And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten's sake. [33]And the LORD went his way, as soon as he had left communing with Abraham: and Abraham returned unto his place.

@@thelordwillprovide911 , no mainstream historian finds the book of Acts in the NT, or indeed the Gospels, to provide reliable historical evidence. Those books are religious propaganda with some historical detail. There is no evidence that Stephen was martyred, and we only find his martyrdom described in Acts. NT scholar Bart Ehrman does not find Acts to be historically reliable. That's pretty easy to research. In his 2016 blog, he asks the question: "Is the book of Acts historically reliable?" His conclusion is: "The reality is that Acts is not historically reliable". And of course, like the Gospels it is anonymous. The author of Acts may be the same as the author of Luke, but both books are anonymous.

According to the text of Isaiah 8 and 9 found in the Dead Sea Scrolls the oldest extant text in existence. The verse is about Dowd, not Jesus. The Pual stem is past tense, the Perfect denotes a completed action. Unto us a child 'WAS' born, WAS given. Dowd had a government upon his shoulder, was a king, brought peace to Israel. He provided valuable council through the Psalms and Proverbs. The verse does not say Almighty God, but mighty warrior. Isaiah is telling the Jews they missed their anointed one Dowd. Yahowah calls Dowd His first born son, and Mashiach in Psalm 89. To sum up Dowd will return at the end of the last generation to bring peace to Israel. The throne of Dowd will be established forever over a united Israel. The Rabbi is going on a long historical rant instead of examining the verse. Literally Dowd is named in the verse. Christians basically take every mention of Dowd and claim the verses are Jesus. Jesus is a Christian fiction. Yahowsha was the lamb sent to fulfill the first 4 feasts; Passover, Unyeasted Bread, First Born Children, and Weeks.

"Paul's Expanded Shema and Important Truths in Handling Scripture" is a video by James White of Alpha & Omega in which he shows that the Septuagint of Isaiah 9:6 does not mention "Almighty G-d" at all, but rather has the prince being called Messenger of Great Counsel. So for two reasons, this passage does not point to the Messiah as divine: (1) Rabbi Singer explains that "Almighty G-d" is the subject who does the naming, not the one being named, and (2) the Septuagint does not show the prince being called divine, but only a messenger of the divine or of great counsel. On a different note, I've noticed that in the liturgical Shema, the Name is attributed with Majesty and being a King Forever. Is not the Son of David also the Majestic King forever? Does the liturgical Shema give greater weight to an identification of the anointed one with the divine one than what Isaiah 9:6 does?
