Great to hear that your awesome truck is towing your trailer like a dream.

Thanks! I'll be honest, it towed better than I thought it would. Especially while just using a hitch with no sway control

I've also recently purchased a 2500hd l8t and pull a 6000 lb. enclosed trailer. I know that's not a very heavy trailer but it sure pulls nice. I love the 10 speed trans. Kudos to chevy, that was a very good decision. Fuel mileage not real good but I don't really care.

I agree. I think GM did a great job with these trucks and I really like the 10 speed. And from others I've seen when pulling heavy, the gas and diesel trucks aren't much different in fuel economy.

I have the GMC 2500HD double cab long bed. Just over 1500 miles. Did first oil/filter change and greased all zerks (myself of course). Towed our 5K lb boat tandem axle first time and it was two lane trip so lots of speed variation. It was fantastic the way it handled and towed with no extensions, right off the factory set up. Mileage was around 10mpg even with the 1 hr wait at the launch. The only issue is there is a slight rattle where the rear view interior mirror is (thought it was in the dash but wasn't thank heaven). Will let the dealer repair when I get that tailgate recall done. All in all all we love the truck.

That's great to hear! Thanks for sharing! We also had to grease the front end because it came with like none from the factory

Good stuff! MPG is interesting. I've got the 6 speed behind my L8T and when towing my 12-13k lbs 5th wheel I get around 9 MPG if I'm on flat land down the freeway. I bet once you are broken in you get another MPG or so. Great content!
@adventureandrepeat
@adventureandrepeat 4 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing! I'm hoping it picks up that mpg. Kind of interesting a truck made for towing was so similar to the Tahoe. But it definitely felt like the truck wasn't working as hard to do the job

Nice review. Matches my experience. Just took my 24 Silverado 3500 with the L8T out for 600 mile round trip. Trailer is 26’ and 6000lbs wet. Towing it with my old 5.3 avalanche was always terrifying. The Silverado was just a pleasant drive. My fuel economy wasn’t better than the 5.3 either. Transmission temp was a different story tho. Avalanche could hit 230, but Silverado never went over 160.

Thanks for sharing! Did you reset your wdh setup for the 3500 then? Or just go back to a standard hitch?

I ended up getting a blue ox swaypro with a 2.5” shank. I couldn’t let that beefy receiver go to waste. Not sure whether I really need it. I towed it without WDH for about 40 miles in a rainstorm and it seemed fine. With the blue ox I was trying to see if I could get some trailer suck going but it was glued to me. The trailer is a toy hauler so it’s a sail when it’s empty, but the Silverado wouldn’t be pushed around.
@adventureandrepeat
@adventureandrepeat 4 ай бұрын
@@johnwallace8379 I think it's better to get a hitch that's 2.5" to match the truck. Always using the adapter sleeve allows for more movement in the hitch from the fitment tolerance. I've had trailers clunk around pretty bad from too much movement in the hitch

I tow a 13k 5th wheel with a 2024 Silverado 3500hd gas. I am very surprised how well it does. The only time I notice it struggling a bit is on larger hills. Overall a very capable truck.

Have a 2024 2500HD LTZ LT8 with 3K miles and heading out for a week long trip tomorrow for around 600mi towing 7000lb TT. Got WD setup lightly to add about 3/4” rear lift from the initial sag of 1-1/2”. Initial 30 mile test drive was awesome compared to my previous 2015 1500 Silverado LTZ. Loving all the technology on the 2500HD and hoping for a tow that makes the result worth the investment.

It will be a big difference! And in a good way! Our economy was similar to our 2015 Tahoe. But having the extra fuel range with the bigger tank makes planning fuel stops easier. Be sure to let us know how it goes!

Great VIDEOS! Do you think the HD's gassers need a 4.10 gear? BC Chevrolet used to offer 4.10's. Ford offers a 4.30 on the 7.3. Curious of your take
@adventureandrepeat
@adventureandrepeat 4 ай бұрын
Thanks! I think it all comes down to a person and their needs. Yes, 4.10s would pull heavy trailers better, but when unloaded you sacrifice some express way fuel economy. I think the gas HDs were built around the working people that drive to work with their trucks then camp or boat on the weekends. So it's a balance. HP numbers are double and triple what they used to be back when those lower ratios were an option. Comparing the numbers of what others have done, yes the 4.30s that Ford has does better loaded, but the GM isn't that much behind. I don't need to be the fastest, I just need to get there reliably.

@@adventureandrepeat Thank you for the response. Im on the fence between the chevrolet and the ford. That 7.3 seems like a strong motor and I like the port injection alot. I subbed to you and will be watching your content to help make a good decision.

I have same truck and trailer at 7,500 lbs, 8,200 lbs max, tows great. On the flats I don’t use tow haul to try and keep rpm’s down and maybe squeeze out some improvement to mpg. Since I’m well below tow capacity thinking it’s not hurting anything, any thoughts?
@adventureandrepeat
@adventureandrepeat 4 ай бұрын
Ideally it shouldn't affect much. If the engine gets bogged down too much it will downshift as it needs. It may just hunt for gears more often depending on slight grades and traffic compared to with tow mode that holds onto gears longer. Higher rpms help clutch plates stay engaged and not slip when pulling loads, and higher rpms is easier on engine internals. Higher rpms help fluids circulate which can keep trans temps and oil temps down. Will it hurt anything in the end? Probably not. When I'm pulling heavy everything just seems to respond better when tow mode holds onto gears longer

Bogging the rpms down is undue stress on the tranny. I wouldn’t worry about mpgs if you are towing. Tow/haul or lock 6th out.

CAN you comment on the blind spot option while trailering ? Is it active when you tow ?
@adventureandrepeat
@adventureandrepeat 3 ай бұрын
This truck does not have blind spot monitoring. Our 2015 Tahoe does have it and it was active even when towing. I doubt GM would have changed how it functioned since then

Same truck, towing a smaller camper with it. Maybe 4000lvs dry. So opinion, I wouldn't need a WDH?

If you have it already setup for it, it doesn't hurt to have it. Depending on what kind you have the benefits would be with sway control. But if you don't already have one, my experience says it may not be necessary. But always make sure the hitch is a proper height for the trailer to be pulled
