Toyota Corolla Cross Genting Test Drive - See How It Handles | YS Khong Driving

Here it is folks, the all-new Corolla Cross, tested on our favourite hillclimb. Our main concern was the torsion beam arrangement at the rear suspension, but the Corolla Cross came through beautifully, not only handling well, but delivering a very comfortable and smooth ride as well. From what I can see of the torsion beam design, it allows some flex of the rear suspension without any camber change, so it is able to deliver a similar kind of ride flexibility. Good job Toyota.

I'm in the Philippines, and we have the same base model specs. This, and your walk around review convinced me to get one. I trust a real veteran competitive driver who knows what he is talking about rather than know-it-all car "journalists" who are neither adept at driving nor technologically knowledgable about cars.

Love watching Uncle’s reviews. Felix, l’m from PH too and l got the Corolla Cross hybrid last month. Fantastic crossover, you’ll love the comfort, quiet and convenience, and Toyota’s hybrid system is amazing. The engine shuts off automatically in traffic and works with the motor when you need it for added power. The hybrid battery charges in three ways, when you let go of the accelerator, when you brake, and when the internal combustion engine runs (most of the time the Cross is in EV mode). I got 34.4km/liter from Mandaluyong to Nuvali. You won’t regret getting this vehicle.

Definitely the TNGA platform, it's comparable to BMW and Mazda, and mayb even better in some aspects.

This chassis also the same chassis that used in lexus ux. So it is definitely better because of the lexus like ride and handling.

The X50 has more power, so it would be more demanding on the Chassis. The Cross is a bigger vehicle, with a longer wheelbase, so would be less twitchy, but perhaps not as agile. The X50 does under steer a bit more, but that could be due to the additional torque at the front wheels. The Cross is less powerful, but relatively easier to drive.

Great drive sir, but just can't get past that CVT whine from the gearbox under hard acceleration. The torsion beam set up looks ok, but seem to be a little choppy over road bumps. Will need to test it out for sure...😅

Uncle Khong, I 1st watched ur Peugeot 2008 Genting Climb, what a thrilling drive, breath hold!!😂😂 May I asked ur pro experience, compare Peugeot 2008 and Corolla cross, which is better in terms of safety/ stability, quietness, power, comfort and FC? I am so fresh to Cars spec...which cars doesn't bumps alot? Peugeot 2008 1.2L only, does it draggy cow when normal drive with psgers on board? Appreciate other viewers comment too. Thank you!!

Each of the two have their own strengths. The 2008 has excellent torque due to the turbocharged engine, and the Cross is likely to be more economical and the 2008 is a B segment vehicle while the Cross is bigger and in the C segment. I suggest you test both before making a decision.

The HRV is a B segment versus C Cross in C segment. So if you can afford the higher price you get a bigger vehicle. If you buy the HRV, it is quite a bit more affordable, so it depends on what you can afford to spend. If you gave budget issues, then the HRV becomes a better buy.

The "art" of tailgating people on risky mountain grades is a dangerous game. See 7:30 and 8:30 when they brake-check him. I'd have done the same. He thinks a public road is a race track.
