I just bought the 23' TRD Sport Premium long bed. This truck is definitely not for everyone. If you like the latest and greatest in a vehicle and/or keep them short term(couple of years) then stay away from the Taco. But if you like simplicty, **tried and true technology & reliability** and keep your vehicles long term (10, 15 or even 20 yrs), the Taco is definitely the mid-size truck to have! There's a reason why this truck has such a high re-sale value. I'm extremely happy I was able to get probably the last year of the Gen3 with the V6. I wouldn't touch a Ford or any of the American made mid-size trucks with a 10ft pole. They may have the latest tech but definitely not even close to the the same level of reliability as Toyota. Cheers!

@MrWilson101 The good news about the ecoboost ranger is that the Engine will outlast the transmission. Can't wait for the turbo problems. There's a guy that purchased 2022 maverick and his transmission failed at 80K and only lasted another ~10K before the repaired transmission failed again. I'm just waiting for the turbo problems to start stacking up. As Scotty Kilmer says, they won't last.

I'm sticking with Toyota reliability. My dad is having way too many issues with his F150, although I like the Ranger, I don't trust Ford. I've never had any problems with any Toyota I have owned. My current 5.7L V8 Tundra is at 300,000 miles, never has had an issue. To me, reliability is definitely the most important factor. No matter how comfortable a truck is, how luxurious it is, how many gadgets it has, if it's not reliable, it's not really useful to me.

This is such a weak take, this was the argument in the 90s, we’ve come a bit further since that time. Shit payload, shit power train, shit brakes, tech that’s nearly as old as me with prices at the top of the segment and folks lap it up with the battle cry of reliability. This stuff isn’t black and white, it’s a spectrum. Toyota wasn’t that far ahead this past decade and all their new stuff is getting destroyed on reliability metrics.

My 23 Tacoma TRD OR has the Premium and Technology pkgs. The Premium pkg has a power drivers seat, so when your driving position is higher, your legs are more “L” shaped. There’s also seat Jacks that you can buy, as I have done to the front 2 positions on the drivers seat and all 4 corners of the passenger seat. The Jacks are permanent and Do help with your lower body and back to be positioned correctly. Yes the 23 Tacoma is dated, but it’s bulletproof in reliability and durability. This is why I chose the 23 over the redesigned 24 Turbo. If it’s not broke, don’t fix it. We normally keep our vehicles for many years. I’m almost 60 years old and have had only 4 main daily drivers during my lifetime. I drove my 78 Corolla for 24 years. It died in 02 at 488K miles. I replaced it with a new Camry and drove it until my needs changed in 11 and that’s when I bought a new Rav 4WD Limited with the 3.5L V6. I drove the Rav until I bought my slightly used (6K mile) 23 TRD Off Road with the 6’ bed. Now that I’m retired I drive about 5-6K miles per year and I plan on driving my 23 TRD until I can no longer drive or I’m dead, which will be 20-25 years if I’m lucky.

Nice review and thanks for continuing to make content! I have followed you since you bought the F150 Tremor. I wish i could have told you have uncomfortable a Tacoma is! I was contemplating buying one a couple years ago, drove around in my friends, and it was a HARD NO simply due to how uncomfortable it was for me. I liked everything else about the truck. Ironically i ended up buying a F150 Tremor (ordered in 2/22 and didnt even receive it until 11/22). So far i love the F150 Tremor. No issues at all in the first 3K miles but we will see as time goes on. It is large in the city and i could see how it would be annoying in Seattle. Still i love it and really the only other truck i think would have made me as happy would be a Chevy ZR2, GMC AT4/AT4x, or even bigger F250 Tremor. (only downside of the F150 tremor imop is no 6.5' bed option, the F250 comes on 35s with a 6.5' bed). Edit: just to add, i found the 4Runner MUCH more comfortable to drive. For people who like the reliable v6 Toyota vehicles i would say go 4 runner. But be aware it has the same issue of feeling like its 10 years old inside despite being brand new and costing close to $60k if you buy a new 4Runner TRD PRO.

Your review is more of a car guy moving to a truck and not liking the ride. Your F150 rode like a car, but had problems like crazy. There's a thing call a pedal commander that you can get so it no longer feels like a dog, but chances are you will need to beef up the throttle body on your truck it's a weak point if the peddle commander is over used. Also consider upgrading your seat. There are springs built into the 2024 high trim option Tacomas that would make the ride easier on your body. The prices around me for a used tacoma are only a few thousand off a new one, and they tend to have ~50k miles at a minimum. Take a look at a 2023 prius and get that for when you don't need a truck as nothing can beat its' MPG. I'm a chevy, ford, and chrysler in this in age I can't recommend any of their vehicles because they outlast the toyota and hondas. Thank you for your honest review.

I'm not really understanding what you're saying. Did you not test drive the Tacoma, and see if you would like it before you bought it? Also, talking about outdated, the Ford Ranger interior in the 2021 model looks more outdated than that Tacoma. Ford Ranger being faster, and the Tacoma feeling sluggish? Yeah- that's because Tacoma isn't putting a twin turbo 4 cylinder like the Ford Ranger that will burn out quicker, and destroy the engine faster than that Tacoma V6. This is coming from a Ram 1500 owner, once I save enough $$$ im buying a Tacoma SOLEY on Reliability, because I'd take that over any new feature, or new technology that will break down, and cost a fortune. The Tacoma isn't perfect. I've test drove one recently, and the backseats aren't spacious, and I want the 4 cylinder..yeah..I know, but that's because I hear they're bulletproof. Overall, I think Tacoma will still remain the #1 midsize truck in the U.S for a long time.

You can buy extra gas container for longer range. 2024 toyota tacoma is coming out baby anddd there still coming with a 6 speed manual yupp 6 speed manual for ranger is only automatic i heard fords rangers are going bad
@ThatJones Жыл бұрын
You probably only bought it because of the Turbo if I had to guess cause there is no other reason you would give that truck up over a Ford if you know Tacoma's and if you've ever had any cause this is my 4th one and I'll never own a Ford after having a company truck as 1

The back seat at least. I’m pretty short at 5ft 8in
@McBurger29 Жыл бұрын
6’4” you will hit your head, the back seats were horrible I think in all midsized trucks. I think if your under 5’10” this is the truck to own. The 4Runner is also not roomy. The highlander without sunroof was not too bad.

I am not tall, only 6'2'', no wonder I did not have trouble fitting in one.
@viperxbr Жыл бұрын
I'm 6'3" and I fit perfectly fine and comfortable in the 23' Taco, even with the sunroof. Not even close to hitting my head while sitting in it. I guess it all depends on your build.

Styling they did a great job creating a timeless exterior design! Gearing and tech are horrible in these… drum brakes on the rear on a +40k truck is embarrassing… I love Tacomas buut they have as many cons as pros..

If you can't get better than 18 MPG out a Tacoma you need to learn how to drive.

I drive a 1996 Ford f250 with only normal maintenance and still runs great. I just don’t see that many 96 Toyota’s out there.

They might be improving. The Ford CEO said in an earnings call that they identified reliability and recalls as an issue and they’re going to work to improve it. Hopefully it pans out. I’d love to get back into a Ford.
