$10k+ more at the minimum for the Toyota? Use the $10k to get better accessories for the Ranger and it surpasses the Tacoma. Also the front locker on the Ranger alone is worth at least $2k after market install. Ranger Raptor all day long.

Ford also just came out with an available tune for the Ranger and Bronco Raptors that boosts the output of the 3.0 TT V6 to 455hp and 536lb-ft of torque for only $825, which is a massive gain in torque and a noticeable increase in horsepower for very little money, especially since it doesn’t affect the warranty.

phantom, It doesn't affect the warranty, where are you getting that info from? Official Ford document for this (New Tune) clearly says 3yr/36k warranty starting from the date the truck was purchased, not the date the tune was purchased. Standard (powertrain warranty) on a 2024 Ranger Raptor is 5yr/60k miles, so you would be losing 2 years or 24k miles of standard powertrain warranty when tune warranty expires and Ford says tune caused powertrain failure, and you rest assured that Ford will play that card. Plus, it requires premium octane, and for those that live in CA, or States that have adopted CA emission laws it is illegal.

@@Enchanted3DPrints Toyota is pretty well known for voiding warrantees, and their docs do say using a vehicle offroad (Which includes race tracks) will void the warranty. Take the GR86 for instance, there is an issue with oiling on hard right hand corners on a race track. If you blow the engine for this, Toyota will do their best to refuse replacing the engine. However, if you have a Subaru BRZ (same car), and this issue happens, they will replace the engine without any fuss.

I don't *want* things like powered tailgates--just more expensive parts to fail. Kind of the same thing with stuff like the bed side lights. Why? The Toyota's frame-mounted rock rails are fundamentally better, the compressor is a really nice feature, and the high output electrical could be useful (IF it doesn't add too much weight). I like the tailpipe location better too. But overall, I'll take the Raptor's capability and comfort every day of the week...and that's not even considering the sizeable price difference. It's strange to call any $58k vehicle a bargain, but compared to all the competition...it definitely is.

@@KingLuis1985not to be a total Toyota apologist. But it's really not that bad... Yes the tacos and the tundras have had some issues. It's not nothing and it's sad to see. But it's also the first year for those models and they are basically from the ground up new vehicles. And the rest of their lineup is totally fine? For every tundra with bad main bearings, there's probably 10,000 rav4s and Corollas running like wood burning stoves. They are definitely having some issues, but I still be more confident buying a Toyota than any domestic brand. Look at stilantes, I'll be surprised if they're still around in 5 years. At least still structured how they are now.
@HiPlains1
@HiPlains1 15 күн бұрын
@@DampNoodles They are underbuilt and we already know why. They moved from a frame mounted bump stop to a cheaper internal one mounted on shock. But it gets worse. They use a two piece cast aluminum top hat that have been exploding with the shock busting right up into the wheel well. I guarantee they will rework that in 2025. Other huge problem is no proper external transmission cooler. You work this hard off road the rear diff will overheat. Also many more reports of hard shifting and complete transmission failures. Engineer already saying they will have to limit the torque to wheels on auto traction control to avoid what happened to TFL front differential breaking. These trucks are under built compared to the prior gens. This we already know from the failures and the changes they made in the underpinnings. Toyota probably figures most will crawl malls. If you want to off road put an external trans cooler and steel top hats at the bare minimum. I would also avoid 33's or 35's on the taco. The suspension is just not going to handle that.

Biggest thing they have to fix ASAP is using a stronger steel top hat instead of that chessy cast aluminum one that blows up with the shock busting into the wheel wheel. Such a horrible design. Better yet use a frame mounted one like they have been doing for DECADES. Also need to use a proper transmission inter cooler to avoid the diff overheating. Not all impressed with that 8 speed either. Many getting that "hard shifting" or total transmission failure that can only be fixed with a new transmission. Even if this truck was priced competitively I would not buy it. Very suspect reliability. Then they hike the prices far above the competition and it makes my decision really easy. Raptor if you can find one at MSRP. Otherwise ZR2 all day long. I also prefer the multimatic suspension. Best riding off roader on tar sealed roads.

Are you guys going to get that new Ford performance tune Ford released yesterday. It’s a Ford dealer installed performance tune that bumps the Ranger Raptor up 50Hp and 100 lbs of torque. Ranger Raptor: Torque jumps from 430 to 536 lb.-ft., while horsepower increases from 405 to 455. I think Ford is charging something like $800 for it. Would love to see a lot of the Ranger Raptor test or re-test with that performance tune. It’s already the power king in the class. This tune should really take it to yet another level.

I just don't know how they put together a "trail hunter" rock crawler without a front diff lock, especially that all its midsize competition has them in the top spec offroad trims. Also I think the Toyota is overstyled. Way too many silly angles and shapes. The Raptor looks so much better.

This may sound nit picky but I would not buy a vehicle that had a range that the Tacoma has, what you said 285 miles? That is crazy, my truck with a 36 gallon tank will go over 700 miles with regular driving, 800+ if I put an effort into it. Heck when my remaining range drops below 200 miles I typically fuel up, having put 500 miles on the tank already.

You could carry extra gas. Most serious off roaders/overlanders do but i do agree another 10 gallons added to the size would be nice. 300 miles of range is more than enough for most to do what they need to do before finding another gas station though

I am a toyota fan (97 4runner, 08 Tacoma, now 17 Tacoma) but I think I would choose the Ford. I like the styling of the ford better and twin turbo v6 (not fan of hybrids for potential failure point) Ford also has a better following for tuning and modification if you choose. 95% of my wheeling would probably not need a front locker but is nice to have. I am impressed toyota actually added a True frame slider plus for the compressor too. Good video thanks guys!
