I don't *want* things like powered tailgates--just more expensive parts to fail. Kind of the same thing with stuff like the bed side lights. Why? The Toyota's frame-mounted rock rails are fundamentally better, the compressor is a really nice feature, and the high output electrical could be useful (IF it doesn't add too much weight). I like the tailpipe location better too. But overall, I'll take the Raptor's capability and comfort every day of the week...and that's not even considering the sizeable price difference. It's strange to call any $58k vehicle a bargain, but compared to all the competition...it definitely is.

Other huge problem is no proper external transmission cooler. You work this hard off road the rear diff will overheat. Also many more reports of hard shifting and complete transmission failures. Engineer already saying they will have to limit the torque to wheels on auto traction control to avoid what happened to TFL front differential breaking. These trucks are under built compared to the prior gens. This we already know from the failures and the changes they made in the underpinnings. Toyota probably figures most will crawl malls. I've had 4 Toyota 4x4 pickups, starting with an '83, and now I have a '13, all purchased new. Looking at the prices of the new ones there is no way I'm buying a 5th Toyota truck. The Tacoma they tested here would cost me North of $80k CAD.

Normally I see a 20+ minutes video (let alone 36!) and pass… but Tommy and Case, you guys made one of the best TFL vids to date! Thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing! For a future video idea it might be fun to have a “normal” truck along. This was like watching two olympians do battle, be interesting to see how a normal vehicle would compare.
@joshc6062 ай бұрын
People keep talking about the price BUT Toyotas have always been high. All they did was give you the option to add everything you would do anyways. And it’s done from the factory so props to them for that.

100% Agree with your final assessment. The Raptor (minus the stupid camper and side steps)wins in my book. BTW, @22:00 minutes in, I was in a similar roll situation where I was so far over on the drivers side, I could literally and did, put my hand out the window and touch the ground.(1986.5 Nissan Hardbody SEV6 4x4) And that while fun, was very concerning. Unfortunately, that was back in the day when we did not have phone cameras and my back up rig was at the bottom of the V notch a good 4 hundred yards away. I don't know what kept it from rolling completely over, other than I had just the right amount of everything working in my favor. lol

I am a toyota fan (97 4runner, 08 Tacoma, now 17 Tacoma) but I think I would choose the Ford. I like the styling of the ford better and twin turbo v6 (not fan of hybrids for potential failure point) Ford also has a better following for tuning and modification if you choose. 95% of my wheeling would probably not need a front locker but is nice to have. I am impressed toyota actually added a True frame slider plus for the compressor too. Good video thanks guys!
