Hi Luke, I can help with the stretching. I used to be a Muay Thai instructor and can still easily stick my chin between my knees at age 54. The trick is simple, do a warmup (maybe 10 mins on the turbo?) then do your normal stretch as far as you can go, hold in position and inhale a lungful, then exhale all the air out as you stretch further. It will relax your body in a way that will surprise you, you'll get a significant amount added to the stretch, especially as you push the last bit of air out. It's easy to test, you can do it cold just to see if it works (it absolutely does), warmed up works even better.

Hey Luke, I'm also stiff even though I'm in my early 30s. For the past 2 years I was stretching with minimal results. Went to a doctor due knee pain and got diagnosed with muscle imbalance and weak muscles in general, because I focus so much on cycling. This off-season I started weightlifting and already see improvements. Flexibility is all about ability for muscles to relax. Muscles stiffen up to protect body from injury and with weak muscles this reflex kick off sooner. For hamstring I do stiff leg deadlifts and for lower back I do Jefferson curls, especially focusing on stretched positions.

Stretching was a resolution I set for myself some years back and now I stretch almost every night. It's not only great to be more flexible, but you're less prone to injuries, and you release a lot of physical tension. In my experience, it has improved my sleeping as well since I stretch before going to bed.

Do it man. I had L5-S1 disk herniated at 31 or 32 years old. Insane pain. It was reoccurring every fall (driving a lot in the fall and it gets much colder in Canada). After crawling like a baby for 10 years i finally put it as a main priority and started doing morning 20 min exercise, stretching in the afternoon and doing weekly Pilates and yoga classes. One or two times each. So around 42 I started improving and last five years it has not happened to me. Pain free and no surgery, just routine work every day. 20 min every morning and 2-3 hours weekly. Turning 53 this year and feel better/stronger than I felt at 31.

As someone approaching their 60th Birthday and cycling almost 16000kms /year these are my suggestions! Try drinking a mug of Ginger tea in the morning (few slices of fresh ginger with boiling water) ginger is a natural anti inflammatory along with other things, you need to do this every day as the effect is very gradual! also walking a few kms is very good after cycling if you can afford the time! A few glasses of red wine is also nice! as for a meal replacement try Y Food ! as recommened by Matt Armstrong! it's a Meal replacement drink! and they could sponser you! Qui Sais! 😀

Those bolts are almost definitely Ti, those flanged Hex head ones with the holes (which I assume are for the brake calipers) are "safety wire bolts" common on motorbikes and in aviation, the idea is you run a twisted wire in a kind of "S" shape between the bolts to stop them coming undone, you sometimes see something similar on truck wheels made from hi-viz yellow plastic. One important thing to note though: They are not usually supplied with washers because the wire+flange makes them unnecessary, if you are not going to wire them you should definitely use a washer and thread lock, as Ti will not naturally "bind" as well to the threads like steel or Alu would.
