Track custom events with Google Analytics 4 (2024)

Learn how to send custom events to Google Analytics 4. Here I will be using Google Tag Manager too.
If you want to send events to GA4, first check the list of recommended events in the official documentation. If you cannot find anything relevant there, feel free to use any name for your custom event.

Great tutorial, thanks! I'm already testing it out - everything was very clear in this video. There was another video of yours where you discussed custom events for custom link trackers. In that video, I was wondering: How do you know or understand when to use Click ID, Click URL, Click Element, Click Text, or Click Classes while setting up triggers for the tag?

Hello Julius, I have an issue with your Google Analytics 4 property where I have installed the Google site kit plugin for WordPress but there may be something I don't know going wrong. Real-time events are not showing in the Analytics dashboard. Also, I don't know how to pass cookies for analytics tracking and other Google cross-site cookies. Further, I don't know what is the function of the ar_debug cookie for tracking within Analytics 4. Can you help me resolve this issue? Also, how can I directly connect with you?

Thanks. So is it not recommended to add events in GA4 from Admin > Events > Create Event? I am used to doing this, then marking as a conversion, so I don't have to wait the 24 hours and come back to do it again.

@@dtps_champion6016Yes, create event in Tag Manager, then add under 'create event' and then 'create conversion' in GA4 This was recommended a year ago but things possibly changed

can you do a video from start to finish setup and everything on i I want to track each form I have on my service pags ie I want to know how many times a form was filled in b form was filled in c form was filled in, I can track in google ads but no idea how to even start on analytics

Users visiting my website may navigate to various category pages and apply filters during their visit. For example, If a user visits the pants category and then applies filters such as "brand" and "size," I want to track these specific filter selections on my website. There are 3 types of filters available in my website and i need to track which filters are most popular. Could you please provide guidance on how I can effectively track these events?
