Still moooooving on without dad. One job at a time. This time it's a late afternoon move of farm tractor that won't move on its own. We use our Peterbilt 579 semi tractor and our Trail-Eze TE801 ramp trailer (super tilt) with a new planetary winch to load the tractor, haul it to the dealer, and then unload it, but we have a little trouble with the unload. Nothing a little experience and ingenuity can't solve, though. Again, I wish to thank everyone who has expressed their prayers and/or condolences for the death of my Dad. The outpouring of support from my viewers has been tremendous and has helped in this difficult time. May God bless each and every one of you. Also, thank you for your patience. I am still making videos, but I took a couple weeks off-call after my dad passed, so I wasn't doing very many jobs. This is another job trying to get to the new normal without Dad. I will continue to perform jobs and create videos, as long as God allows. Things will be different moving forward. I have to trust that God will guide me and this channel.
Again, a very special thank you to all my viewers, family, and friends who having taken the time to show their support. May God bless and protect you all!!

There are enough disaster vids out there,,, so it’s nice to see a MO sunset a dairy farm and some US cows, which amazingly enough, look very similar to English ones!,! Just one quibble, perhaps . . . on a ship or boat, looking from the rear, starboard is on the right side. Short words all matched up - left = port, right = starboard.😉 The work, as usual, was superbly managed. I appreciate the way you organize each step to build on the safety from the previous one. No short cuts; no forgotten rules. Just as close to 100% safe as possible.

"Operator error". Yeah, I've never done that... today. ;>) The days are long gone when you could just push in the clutch and pull something. Those trailers are very versatile! I was delivering in the mountains on a well site & had to maneuver around switchbacks that were too small for the truck & trailer. Used the sliding axles to shorten up & then push the tractor forward & then shorten up & push the tractor until I was around the turns. Very handy!

When you were turning around there, I couldn't help but to think of that Red Simpson song about needing 40 acres to turn the truck around. I bet the reason why the front tires weren't rolling as because he was doing something with it in 4WD before it quit and didn't put it back in 2WD. Otherwise the front should have been free even with the parking break on.

David decided to leave after he and his wife had a child. This is a difficult life with young children. My wife and I raised 2 while I was busting my rump to pay the bills. We made it work, but it was difficult. David did not do anything wrong. He was not fired. David would be welcomed back if he chose to come back. I understand his decision, but I do wish we still had him as part of the team. He was a hard worker and I put a lot of time/effort into training him. He had a bright future here, and, again, he would be welcomed back. Thanks for watching and God bless.

May i ask the reason to chaining the back down like you did? How come you didn’t just hook it to itself like he started to , then hooked binder to the chain hole…. No hate , might learn something new by your answer.
@RonPratt
@RonPratt 2 жыл бұрын
I'll gladly try to answer a question from someone wanting to learn and who asks respectfully. First, we are using 3/8" grade 70 transport chains for the tie-downs, which are pretty typical for this type of hauling. There are basic principles whether it is winching, lashing, climbing rope, etc. One is to "count the number of lines to the load." Each line shares a portion of the load. Another is regarding the rating of the rigging in the configuration it is placed....straight, basket, or choker being the 3 basics configurations. Both principles apply in this situation. First, rather than having 2 single lines sharing the load on the rear, by doubling the chain back I'm creating 4 lines to the load. These 4 lines now share less on each portion of the line than the 2 single lines would have. The second principle works closely with the first. I have the chains in a "basket" configuration which is typically close to double the strength of the "straight" line configuration which you mention. I hope I didn't over-complicate my explanation. Based on the weight of the tractor, I could have gotten by with 4 single chains in a 4 corner-4 point tie down and been legal. It didn't take much, if any, extra effort to configure the chains so that I was almost doubling my tie-down (lashing) strength. Thanks for watching and God bless.

Ron, things will definitely be different with your dad gone, but you have Jesus in your life and He is taking care of you. When you feel you need to take some time off feel free to do so. I lost my wife 22 years ago and on the anniversary of her death l would ask my boss for the day off. After awhile he would come to me to let me know it was set up for me to take off if needed. Good boss! Things do get better with time but you never lose the memories. Ron, be safe out there. As you grieve for your dad you will have to be extra careful so you don't mess up.

Chain the front first when loading and unchain the back first when unloading. The kid reminds me of myself 😂. The first week working on power lines I had to hand roll about 100 yards of old copper line. I was so ready to work that I started rolling the wire at the first end I came to, then I carried a really heavy roll of wire back to the truck. I did this a few times over the course of a month. One day my lineman looks at me and says, why don't you walk 100 yards to the other end of the wire and then start rolling it up, so when your done you're close to the truck? My mind was blown..😂

You are finally doing " Normal Stuff". I know you get all different kind of calls but to be able to help a local customer is good. The worst part of the setting sun in the fall is that even with decent sunglasses the blazing sun can make doing any task road related a difficult thing. I did not realize until this year that there are many different companies that made tractors. I bet Worldwide there maybe thousands of companies that make tractors and many other type of farm equipment.
@timothygeiger437
@timothygeiger437 2 жыл бұрын
You didn't know that Case/IH made farm equipment?? It's a merger several years ago between Case farm equipment & International Harvester. They both started independently well over 70 years ago. There's several machinery manufacturers, some are defunct, but some of their equipment is still in use. With this particular tractor, one look at the hood gives it away😄 It says MXM, but that's just a name Case/IH put on a series of tractors. Did you see the New Holland tractor when they were still at the dairy, it was easily recognizable. Years ago Ford merged with New Holland, that's why some still say Ford on them, rather than New Holland. Alot of mergers & acquisitions from very old companies.

More than you can imagine. New Holland actually doesn’t make their own tractors per se. They just slap their logos on them, different years of the same model can vary. Another useless fact is that there is one country that makes it nearly impossible to own any tractor other than the one made in their country, I think it’s Mahindra (the worlds best selling tractor)

Great video Ron! Those trailers do come in handy for many applications. Have a question for you: why haven’t you installed a headache rack/cab guard on the truck yet?
@rcatyvr
@rcatyvr 2 жыл бұрын
In may be his choice not to. In many jurisdictions a full sleeper cab is considered to be sufficient as a guard. If it is not mandated, it is an extra 3,000 lb. tare weight. Most styles will only stop light loads from perforating the driver and I've never seen one that will stop a greased 5 ton section of drill pipe once that gets moving at any speed over about 15 mph. I never drove sleeper so I always had a headache rack. That rack stopped a few 4x4s from ruining my day way back when.
@DaMisfitz

Ron cant install a headache rack, as his hydraulic tank is right there on the cat walk behind the sleeper. The hydraulic radiator is also installed on the back of the sleeper.

Yeah. That's actually important. My dad knew someone who had their head decapitated after the were working to free a bulldozer that got stuck. The winch hook snapped off the dozer and flew through the rear window.

Funny how you said "Truck #17" and I knew the truck/trailer combination right away. I enjoyed the "steer" joke. Thanks, Eli for using your gift of helps. Keep honouring God with the gifts He gave, and you'll go far in life. God bless you, Ron as you make Dad Pratt proud, one job at a time, and every personal moment at a time.

Great video as always..... especially lately, I look forward to Friday morning especially because of your videos. Temporarily off work on medical leave for unknown amount of time. Gotta have major reconstruction surgery on my trachea and esophagus, but gotta get all the insurance nonsense sorted out before can have the surgery. At least, once a week, you give me something to look forward to....thank you and God bless you and all with you !!!!!!

Eli looks like a great hands on lad who i think would be a great asset to the company if he chooses that path.

I could watch your videos till the cows come home. Don't know "wether" that just a UK saying, but I'm sure you get the drift. Also having lost friends recently, I can appreciate your situation. Your faith will help you through this. All the best from theUK
