Ah, this took me back to a happy time when I was a child in the 1970s. While I was at Sunday school mum would make a roast dinner, followed by rice pudding just like yours. I would eat so much I could barely walk. Mum has gone now and all my siblings, but I want to try to make a rice pudding. Thanks Sheila.

My father was stationed in the Far East during the war, when he came home for a short while before going to Germany, his family had a big meal to celebrate, they scraped together their rations and my mum made a surprise dessert, one of my fathers all time favourites, rice pudding, he said to my mum I can’t eat that I’ve had nothing but rice for six years, boiled, fried, or baked with every meal.I was told it took years for him to get his appetite back for rice again I was born in ‘56 and sorry dad I loved my mothers rice pudding

I love rice pudding and grew up in England with an Irish mum who made it for us. We also had it at school dinners and it was delicious. The American rice pudding is pretty good but I switch out the cinnamon for the nutmeg to make it the traditional English way. My mum who is 90 now and also lives here in the U.S, was just asking me if I knew where she could find the right rice here in the U.S to make it. I stumbled on this video and now know what rice to buy over here. I'm going to buy it and make it for hubby and me. Thank you so much for posting this recipe. :)

Exactly like l make and my mum used to make. I LOVE nutmeg on mine but, for those who don't like it, cinnamon is also nice. So many happy memories of her carefully dividing up the skin so my brother and l wouldn't fight over it. One of my childhood books had a poem in it by A A Milne that l still think of whenever l make rice pudding and, although l understood the theory of WHY Mary Jane was crying, l thought she was crazy! Rice Pudding What is the matter with Mary Jane? She's crying with all her might and main, And she won't eat her dinner - rice pudding again - What is the matter with Mary Jane? What is the matter with Mary Jane? I've promised her dolls and a daisy-chain, And a book about animals - all in vain - What is the matter with Mary Jane? What is the matter with Mary Jane? She's perfectly well, and she hasn't a pain; But, look at her, now she's beginning again! - What is the matter with Mary Jane? What is the matter with Mary Jane? I've promised her sweets and a ride in the train, And I've begged her to stop for a bit and explain - What is the matter with Mary Jane? What is the matter with Mary Jane? She's perfectly well and she hasn't a pain, And it's lovely rice pudding for dinner again! What is the matter with Mary Jane?

Me again. I've just googled rice pudding in an air fryer (you got me curious), personally I would not be happy with any of the results, from the ones I looked at anyway. For me the tastiest part of the rice pudding is the skin and all the air fryer recipes used a thing called a paddle so constantly stirred the pudding allowing no crunchy sweet skin to form. However it is possible to make so just Google rice pudding in an air fryer and there are some recipes 👍

It could of been a number of things: did you use pudding rice, leave it for ten mins more cooking to thicken up, was the oven up to temperature when you put the pudding in, did you use the correct amount of rice, did you use the correct amount of milk. Sorry it did not work out.

Thank you for pointing this out. This recipe is probably over fifty years old. I gave the temperatures that were in the original recipe but I have only cooked this in a gas oven and then, for the past twenty five years, in an electric oven. In the UK the electric ovens are celsius. It just needs to be cooked on a low heat, just enough that the milk does not bubble over in the oven but a nice crusty top/skin forms. Um, delicious! 🥰
