Looks delicious! I’ll add raisins because we like them. Love the tip to add white flour on top! Thank you, Chris!

I make soda bread quite often and do as you say. I enrich the dough with an egg and butter, then add raisins and a bit of candied peel. Delicious!

Can I add a tablespoon of oil and what effect would it have on the bread.? Thanks 🤩 Ronnie

It becomes American fruit soda bread when you add fruit. It was something that happened after the Irish emigrated to the US and then it came back just like Halloween 😂. I add sultanas myself.

Yeah that’s right. It’s an American thing that made its way back to Ireland 😄

How would I get a soda bread with a more dense, cake-like texture?

Hiya! Would this work with plain gluten free flour please? If not, any suggestions? I'm trying to find a quick, simple tasty GF bread recipe so I can make with organic flour and therefore avoid all the nasties! Tia. Seen your GF video but unfortunately we are not keen on buckwheat! How demanding am I?!! 😂

@@garyash4823 I’d recommend aiming for the consistency of the dough in the video. Hold a drop of buttermilk back. Plenty of flour on the table and shape round like in the video ☘️
