We had the yuba soup this morning, to welcome the New Year, and it was delicious! I didn't have mochi so substituted a tofu puff, but it was close. We plan to have noodle bowls for dinner tonight. Thank you for this video, and for the curated box -- it is wonderful to explore Japan virtually with your videos and your food selections. 💖

Hi my brothers! OMGEEE! I just ordered my box! I’m sooooo excited! This will be the first year that I will NOT be hosting Oshogatsu at my house. It will be just Gary, myself, and my niece. I will NOT break from our Toshikoshi soba or Ozoni tradition. Brother Shinichi, we are a hot soba family. Ever since I discovered the soba from brother Satoshi’s hometown of Yamagata, that has been my GO-TO soba. I also eat my mochi grilled, dipped in shoyu, and wrapped in nori. I’m super excited to try this miso powder in the Kokoro Cares box. I hope you’re both having THE time of your lives in Seoul! Eat lots of yummy food(s), and see all of the amazing Christmas displays. Kyotsukete kudasai ne! ❤❤

Regional differences within a country fascinate me. It interests me that in Yamagata Prefecture, where it averages almost 20 degrees Fahrenheit colder in January than in Shizuoka Prefecture, Satoshi says they generally prefer their Toshikoshi Soba cold; whereas Shinichi's family in Shizuoka Prefecture prefer it hot. 😊I love this textured tapestry of a world! 🥰 Thanks for more creative ways to use your Winter Care Package. 💙💙

miso on the mochi sounds good, never had miso mochi. You can also sprinkle it on the soba noodles :)

I do always make myself some Amazake for new year and the first week of it, it's easier to order Koji-spores and rice and process it at home, than ordering ready to serve Amazake (and if a shop sells it, it's sooo expensive). It was 2015 (!!! wow... time flies...) when I saw your video about new year traditions and then visiting a temple and drink it, so I was wondering what it tastes like and ordered some, with and without alcohol. And since I loooove it so much I tried to make it myself in 2018 by ferment rice kennels with those Koji spores at home. I looove it so so much, it's a tradition at my home for years now, thank you for showing me a part of your culture and exapand my knowledge of tastes and how things are made🤗 lovely greetings from Switzerland, we do have so much snow right now it's wonderful❤

I bought some mochi one year that was frozen. It did not thaw out after three days. So I threw it away for fear something was majorly wrong. It was a frozen solid three days sitting out on my counter top. I was so looking foward to roasting it on the grill.

Hello Shinichi & Satoshi! Guess what I just bought my hubby for Christmas? A Yakitori barbecue grill! We'll use it New Years Eve for sure! I need to see if I can find any mochi at our Asian market so I can grill some up. I'm going to also buy a bag of lump coal for the grill, and tell my hubby that it's from Santa Clause! 😆🤣😂Lololol! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! 😄❤❤❤🎄🎅
