I'm a little surprised that an Excel can't make it from STL to LGB on fuel - even with six passengers. Three hours from Salina to Long Beach .... must have been some serious head winds. And, look at the size of that Penske Racing CRJ at 11:13. Nice private ride.

This video made me miss home. I used to plane watch in the late 70's at Orange County (Before it was named John Wayne) from the upper deck of the old tiny terminal. No Sky Bridges back then.

Your videos bring back a lot of memories. I used to fly N2S (a Citation 550). Your call sign is eerily close. The airplane was owned by a big Hollywood Producer and managed by the Air Group. Did you ever stop in Salina and have Flower Aviation offer you free steaks? Flower went out of business but many of us will remember the “flower girls” and the ten minute fuel turn service. I am retired now and do not miss the hotel rooms or wondering when the folks really will show up. Very nice channel. Excellent videos with superb audio. Enjoy the flying... those years can go by very quickly. I was fortunate to have 32 years with the same company. I go to a church really close to KSUS. I have probably looked up seen you landing to the East. I really have a warm spot in my heart for Cessnas.

I used to stop there all the time when I was flying a Citation III out to the west coast. I can't remember how the steaks were but, I was always happy to get them.

My only “close” call when I was flying was going into Long Beach. We were getting ready to make a turn heading towards LGB and a AirCal 737 flew from our 4 o’clock to 11 o’clock and maybe 200 feet. We got caught up in the wake and it got exciting for a few moments. Had to do the paperwork with the FAA. Good times. Hate that area to fly in. Thanks for the video!

Did you have any major setbacks/struggles along the way? On the flip side, did you have any times where you were just in the right place at the right time? Did you ever think that your career would lead you to be a KZbin sensation, haha? Thanks Jim, your videos serve as a good kick in the pants to keep studying. Also, the live webcast was great, glad I was able to catch it. I laughed so hard when you were still live and the wife called! Anyway, have a great night, pass along a ‘hello’ to Mike as well.

Stayed at that Courtyard years ago while working on a deal with McDonald-Douglas for HP. First visit, I checked into the lobby and was escorted to a conference room. Past the lobby was pictures of their airplanes through the years. At the end, on the left side, was a Soviet transport aircraft. I asked the guys in the conference room why there was a picture of that plane. They said that the Soviets stole the plans and copied it down to the flaws. Since it was basically a McDonald-Douglas plane, they put it up in the hallway.

So, when you went in for the ADS-B upgrade, did you just get ADS-B OUT or In and Out? One thing I'd like to add to your 'looking for a job' thing, although everyone who is in that position basically already knows it. Don't be afraid to take part time positions. You need a minimum of 1,500 hours for your ATP, and the Feds haven't yet figured out that you don't really need the ATP for a First Officer position, but they still require it (thanks to the Colgon Air incident). So, if you can find a Part 135 or Part 91 job doing charter or business aviation, take it. I doubt very much that I'll ever fly as PIC again, finances, maybe medical, etc. all conspire to keep me grounded. I'm too old now to try to track down a flying career, but if I was even just 20 years younger, I most certainly would be trying for it. Grab that brass ring as it goes around, you never know where you might end up.

Another loooong day. Such is the life of a corporate pilot. LOL. What you need to do is get your company to buy a nice new Gulfstream G600. No more fuel stops with that bad boy. I recall way back when I would make the EWR-LAX trip, we would have to stop in the winter, winds you know. We would stop in Lincoln, Nebraska. Each crew dog got a box with four steaks and whoever was standing by while they pumped got a pair of Ray Ban sunglasses. To this day I have four pair, unopened. It’s a shame the Spruce Goose is no longer in Long Beach. I spent many a day killing time there. Ahh, a pilot shortage, maybe I can get a job, i have 27k of time under my belt, think I’d qualify. Too bad I’ve retired. Go figure. Happy flying !!
@captmoonbeam6 жыл бұрын
I would have been all over the sunglasses. Much better than frozen steaks. They don't give out steaks in Salina anymore.

What runway end were you off of when you pointed to the Boeing building? Those used to be Douglas Aircraft Company buildings. The one you had your cell phone pointed towards looked like building 84, which built the C-17. I worked there for awhile as a senior analyst for aircraft construction.

Question? You mentioned you couldn’t do a flight for 4 hours with 6 passengers. I flew a Citation X 750 and I must be missing something? I seem to recall the range was over 3000 miles? Granted, we were light with only 4 on board... full fuel... I’m missing something from your statement...?
@donaldholman90706 жыл бұрын
So, did you mean with 6 people the planes range is shorter? Great video,thank you.
@BillUtah6 жыл бұрын
Donald Holman The plane (all planes) have a useful payload which is shard with fuel. So more people eat into the amount of fuel you carry. It’s a trade off, seats full or tanks full...

I got my private pilot's license there back in 1973 when Kentucky Flying Service was still around on a C-150. Dick Mulloy gave me the check ride. That was before they closed 1/19 and you could land on the grass on either side of the active runway if you wanted to. I went to college shortly after finishing my license and haven't flown since. I just live vicariously through stuff like this.
