You are my Hero. I did a engine swap replacing a 300TDI in my 1996 Defender 110 with a older TDI from a discovery. I was un able to get my engine running and after a bunch of reading and video watching I realized that the Stop Solenoid was not wired in. Once I connected the wire it fired up. Thank you for being so thorough.

Great video! Working through a non-start issue now. I think it’s the lift pump and it coincidentally decided to fail at the same time I was fitting a new timing belt. I’m sure the lnjection pump gear, camshaft gear and crankshaft gear have not moved relative to one another (I used the injection pump and flywheel lock from the timing kit) and the truck was running fine prior to the timing belt change. This video has only further convinced me that it’s the lift pump. Heard these go bad rather often. Thanks!!!!!!

Hi Chris this is what you do well. I know I have mentioned it before but as you are talking about fuel stuff, Britannia restoration did the fitting of a boost pin with interesting results worthy of your comments. I’m glad you have decided to do some whiteboard stuff as it’s not all greasy mitts and rags.

I install a backflow valve just before the filter in my old diesels to avoid cold start issues due to air leaks. It was a headache in my Citroen Cx 25 TRD T2 for months since I installed one of those. Since now it starts to the first key touch even after hibernating wake up.

Well, I had problems a long time back, and I had to get the FIP repaired at a professional Bosch pump service. I had low engine power. Appart from that, and following your recommendation, I changed the 4 injectors. That got rid of the persistent smoke problems I had after the engine rebuild. I must say, that I've never touched the sediment filter. I've run nearly 400,000 Kilometers and I've never touched that element. Keep my fingers crossed.

It'll be a messs if it hasn't been touched for a while. They usually rot in place.

Great video, Thank you. One question, the hard lines that run from lift pump to filter paired with the line from filter to Injection pump have a "Loop-D Loop" formed in the line. Is this important? What is the function? The only thing I can figure is that it is some counter current mechanism to preheat fuel before filter.

Ahh the good ole veggie oil diesel mix, too many times farmers around here buy in bulk and forget to have it treated.... algae can be hella shot storm on equipment

Great video and well explained in workshop language, Im having issues with a LR 2.2 puma, fault code states that the FPR is faulty, now can that be changed on its own or is it a complete rail system replacement cheers Roy

Got a 200tdi defender and taking off the cap from the injector pump where the boost diaphragm sits, i had a fair bit of oil sat on top. Cleaned it up but cannot remove the diaphragm housing to remove the pin though that is not my biggest worry, main concern of course is the oil on the housing. I have traced it back to a hose that connects to the turbo so obviously oil is travelling from the turbo to the injector so of course i want to get this sorted sooner rather than later. Any ideas on what i can do?

i've got a really strange problem with my 300tdi. can anyone help me? it's leaking air into the fuel line, but only on an incline. any idea why it might only leak air while on an incline?

What would cause high fuel consumption on a 200tdi?

it depends if there are symptoms with high consumption. ie: Excessive smoke
