I feel bad for the crew member that has to walk all the way back to find out what happened. Then maybe walk back to the engine to get another knuckle to replace it if they have one. Then carry that back to the break to replace it. The knuckle weighs about 80 pounds. If not then they have to call for someone to bring them one. Hopefully they can get someone like a train master or someone else to help. My husband worked for the railroad for almost 20 years and he had to replace them several times. He worked at a hump yard. One time they were getting ready to hump a cut and the first car had the draw bar from another car still hanging on to the end of the first car that came up top of the hump. Somehow the draw bar got pulled out of another car.

It’s pretty cool that you got that on video. Next time if your car is near there you should drive down to the engineer and see if they want a lift to the spot so the crew can get moving. Also to save time for us, you could edit out the walking since at that point you aren’t really showing anything. I’m sure you had some adrenaline going on. Good catch.

what causes the knucle to break? If the train is too long or something? i watched a video online years ago where another KZbinr caught on camera the knucle breaking. Commenters asked how the engineer know he lost half of the train and people responded the air loss applies the brakes or something. I can imagine the walk the conductor has to make to find the breakage. man the train was almost done when it broke
@CSXMainLineProductionАй бұрын
Not sure if it was just too long but that part of the train just had a weak spot and it couldn’t take that weight no more and it let lose and yes the Air brakes let out and they get the notification in the Cab of the train which automatically stops the train and many folks got a separation on camera this was my first that’s what I meant by first time on camera yea it was almost over with and I called them and told them where it was at so the picked the conductor up and took him to it and they fixed it!!!
