Training a German Shorthaired Pointer to respond to a search whistle

Once on a blind retrieve your dog needs a signal to tell him he is close to the retrieve. On this command he should slow right down, get his nose down and search very methodically, rather than cast wide on the wind.

Brilliant, thanks for sharing. I'm a big fan of using the whistle as I wouldnt want to scare game off whilst I'm hunting with a bird of prey.

Thanks Neil, Aytee sells progressive training manuals which are aimed at handlers looking to rough shoot or field trial. www.aytee.co.uk/training Level 1 discusses how to start hunting. Levels 2 & 3 include hunting/quartering different winds.(there are videos associated with these) Level 4 centres on getting out out and about and Level 5 on working for guns. email backup accompanies all levels. It is worth noting that the sheer style of the dog is much down to its own natural ability, but given good management this will be enhanced.
