The main Mexican gangster is a maori from New Zealand, you should really check out "once were warriors" & "what becomes of the broken hearted". The funny thing is that maoris are always portrayed as Mexican or Arab in Hollywood, because Americans dont know otherwise 😂

The corrupt cops in this film were based off real corrupt crash unit cops in LA back then. This movie is really realistic to how LA streets were back in those days.

@MKO_VOR nope the first rampart incident was in the 1970's hell there was even a LAPD scandal in the late 40's. This movie I'd an amalgamation of several historical incidents and even other cop movies like service etc. There wasn't even a Russian mafia in the 1990's. Nor was any rookie cop involved in the 1990's rampart division incident. This is not a documentary but a fictional theatrical story.

The guys who inspired Denzel's character were part of a unit called RAMPART; two of the primary inspirations were named Rafael Perez and David Mack. One of them may (or may not) have shot Biggie Smalls. There's an entire TV show about all the stuff their unit got about to called The Shield; if you like Breaking Bad you'll love that one. It has the best pilot (first episode) ever.

@@survivalrush I watched it after it was over. My brother came over to a friend's house, watched the final three episodes all in one go and his jaw was (of course) on the floor. Our friend then turned to him and said "you wanna watch another seven whole seasons of this?"

The Shield was incredible television. I love how the tension was cranked up right to the very last couple of episodes. I'm amazed that it isn't more widely known.

Thank you for the action movie I've grown to like them a lot. Sometimes I like them more than romantic movies. I blame it on my dad. As a young girl my dad and I would watch black belt theater and he would watch WW2 movies. I love Shirley Temple movies but I like action too

The last thing you guys need is ANOTHER recommendation... but! If you're interested in a show about corrupt police (and some not so corrupt) in LA, with some good writing and some great performances, there's always "The Shield". It's quite a bit less 'cartoon-ish' than this film, and lacks Denzel Washington, but I couldn't stop watching it. More than once, too.
