When he said Kevin had his number after the meeting sending Darrell on a free ride killed it. The point of you hating Vickers is proof you love to hate (ignorant people who live in fantasy, like your tight shirt is a fantasy besides benching the 165 that’s ‘’your weight’’. Im sure it took strength to shoehorn into your nieces shirt. You literally rewrite a show that means literally nothing. It was a fill when the show was dying. Farrell is allowed to riff but generally respectful now. And I am someone who grew up at the Comedy Workshop in Houston, I was in the green room with Sam Kinison daily, Bill Hicks a regular family friend until he moved to England. Know theory, history before you think you are even able to learn comedic trades, I was 6 when I started . Plus Ricky runs the show . The award show antics were just that. And if your ideas on writing comedy were respected that’s what you would do, nobody even wants to but your jokes. I got $500 if you gave a joke I can sell in front of real people. Quit hating, start creating . Or clear out for someone who will

The problem with Diangelo is that his personality is not consistant. He has a different personality in each of the 4 episodes he is in and it comes of as weird, unrelateable and confusing.

I agree, adding D’Angelo was a bad move. Bringing on Ferrell itself, maybe not, but his character was definitely ill-conceived. They should have set up his character to be obviously temporary, not the new boss. There are just so many other ideas they could have gone with. For instance, the office could have had an office party for Michael at the bar and Michael could have a chance meeting with D’Angelo who is an executive for a company in Iowa. Thus Michael lucks into a new job. Now the viewer can rest easy knowing Michael has some sort of future ahead of him.

I agree with your assessment. In addition to DeAngelo being a complete cartoon and un-relatable in any way, I forgot how they rewound the clock on all the character development for everyone else as well?! Having worked to bring some real humanity into the series, this felt like an entire new writing team had taken over. That said, I think two of my favorite Dwight lines ever are in the next episode (“I’m a sick freak? No! YOU’RE the sick freak!” And “so, a bit about me; I respond very well to authority.”)

D'Angelo Vickers is such an absurd character that his story arc feels like they jumped the shark in slow motion. I could see past the famous actor playing Charles Miner, but with D'Angelo they never broke past the sense of Will Farrell doing a bit. The only good thing I can say about the character is that he sets up Robert California to be totally grounded and plausible as the kind of weirdo who manage to thrive in chaotic tech companies like Sabre.

I'm with you. I just don't get D'Angelo at all. Every other character in the show previously, from Jan to Toby to Todd Packer, is someone that everyone can relate to a coworker they've known. I don't have any clue who D'Angelo is supposed to be. Every scene feels like a random ad-lib. Even the name, "D'Angelo Vickers" sounds like it came out of a random name generator.

Damn 18:27 should have woukd have could have needed that idea in the writer's room. That tangent you just described would have set up that whole Dwight Jr. (Next generations) ark for the office. I could see the show progressing like Degrassi from there. Where the story is relatable but now it follows some of the characters in new more deeply relatable lights. Oh man that would have been so good. You should commission a comic book

I didn't watch The Office until it was streaming so I wasn't aware that Deangelo was only supposed to be a stop gap and always felt like those four episodes just seemed chaotic. I guess in some ways that's the vibe of an office undergoing a transition to a new boss so it fits. But I'm also not a fan of Will Farrell so I tend to rank these episodes low as well.

I actually liked D'Angelo in this episode and the one where he co-hosted the Dundees. I thought the character was funny in a different way from Michael Scott, providing laughter without being too much of a jerk and showing potential for future seasons with someone else as Regional Manager. To me he didn't feel awkward the way Andy did once he became Regional Manager. My dislike for D'Angelo happens once it is revealed he is misogynistic, which the writers must have done in order to make fans happy to see him leave.

I love Will Ferrel and all, but even I'll admit Deangelo Vickers just didn't work. I think that the biggest problem is that they never really nailed down what his shtick was, he almost felt like he changed his whole character throughout the course of only four episodes. Maybe if he had stayed on for longer, Deangelo could have developed into the greatest character ever, but he didn't get that much of a chance. From what we see, the whole thing just feels kind of weird and off.

I would have loved if they just planned on replacing Carell with Ferrell for the majority of the next season. I love the battle of the four for number 2, but they could even go for number 1 and make it a season long plot line; behind Ferrell’s back. Then for season 9 maybe someone gets it, or none of them do and Jim Carrey takes over for a portion of season 9. I think they should have relied more on heavy hitters, catering to their strengths. I LOVE the Louis CK idea, I think that choice would have been marvelous. Where he’s super deadpan and dry, the total opposite of Scott.
@colleenlavigne21962 жыл бұрын
I thought D’Angelo was a smart move. Everyone was going to hate whatever happened when Michael left. Why not make a big unlikeable throw away character to sacrifice? No matter what these 4 episodes did everyone would hate the way someone took Michaels job. Why not lean into the cringe.

I would give this episode a 1 out of 5. It was stupid and not at all funny. I'm not a big Will Ferrell fan, as he's too slapstick for my taste. But I think the writers could have made this episode and the following shows with him better. For one thing, leave out the scene where he's eating the sheet cake like a huge slob. It was grossly weird. One thing I did like was the early scene where he meets Michael. But that was because Michael was part of it and added to the funny.
@FoldTrace2 жыл бұрын
What I find weirdest about this episode is the structure It begins with Michael and Deangelo bonding then they get some differences and then they get along decently enough It's so weird it makes me wonder if the writers just didn't have any concepts to do with Deangelo outside of him having some banter with Michael

This is definitely one of, if not, my least favourite episode. It kind of annoys me throughout. The one thing I disagree about however, is that I do think Michael would be likely to revert to his more jealous ways, watching the people he loves as family, accept the new boss with open arms, trying to win his affection. I think a lot of people like to feel irreplaceable, especially Michael-types, no matter how much inner work he has done and how much he's grown. Something like this is very likely to bring those feelings out.
@shaunlogan65437 ай бұрын
When I first saw Will Farrell was going to be the boss, I didn’t care for it… his comedy style is different than what Steve had shown Michaels to be… so, for me, I knew I wouldn’t care for it… I was right… the writers saw the same thing, I believe, because each episode he was in, his character was totally different… Will Farrell played 3 different characters (4 if you count the concussion)… how are we supposed to learn to live his character when we don’t know which one he really is? And sometimes his character would change MID EPISODE! It was just weird, out of place and poorly timed…

i think that they messed up with d'angelo because in this ep and the next 3 he comes off as a decent boss and he could show just what happens to the office without the leg room the people in it gets (kinda like a charles situation but without Michael making everything better) instead they made his a sexist ass and gave him brain damage the first episode he was alone
