Thanks for all your kind comments! Filming in the Atacama Desert was quite adventurous. However with a bit of planing and the help of some friends it was possible to do. If time permits, I'm going to post a second part. Viva Chile! :-)

Fantastic post. I always wanted to go here to see this. Looks very remote some locations. Nice to see some of the former Queensland Rail locomotives still in action for the FCAB. They are identifiable with their lower profile, due to their original loading gauge in Queensland. I love the fact that these beast are not muffled much. Hear the horsepower at play.

Roberto Gandolfo.

Beautiful rugged country down there in Chili. So much amazing geological features, offroading in a souped up 4x4 and a rock hounds paradise all rolled into one. I forgot to mention the largest astronomical observatory complexes in the world all built at nose bleed locations scattered in the Atacama desert. Sadly this cold loving Canadian can't take the brutal heat the Atacama is famous for dishing out.

Thanks! Regarding train frequencies: It depends on the railroad and the stretch. In 2012, when I shot the video: - FCAB, Cumbre Pass around 5-7 trains on each direction. - FCAB, border to Bolivia 1-2 trains on each direction. - Ferronor, Div. Almagro 2-4 trains on each direction. - SQM around 3-5 trains on each direction. As of today, only FCAB remains active, since SQM and Ferronor, Div. Almagro were destroyed after severe rainfalls. However, there seems to be some signs of life on the Ferronor lately.
