Trans Am GTA - Cat Delete, Sound, Test Drive, Take Off

88 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am GTA (5 speed) catalytic converter delete, before / after video.
V8 sound, test drive, take off...just fun!
Also, the beautiful 66 Mustang was in the exhaust shop at the same time and another beautiful 95 Mustang was with me on a test drive.
More about white Mustang soon and hopefully the red one as well.

I'm so jealous I think this I'd the best sounding/seen Firebird I've ever seen. I live in the uk and grown up in the 80s and watched Knight riderand always loved this shape... Manual as well is an added bonus... The sound is unexplainable...

When I was younger, I had an 84 Z28, headers into a 3 into a 3 in y, no cat, 3 in back to Gale Banks muffler. It was just as sweet.

@@V8AmericanMuscleCar The whole y-pipe to the mufflers was a kit/package from what I understood. It was on the car when I bought it. It hat flanges where the cat should have been, with straight pipe bolted in. The muffler was on the left rear, it had two stainless ports. It had a unique rumble compared to my brother's 86 TA and other F bodies with aftermarket exhausts.

@@V8AmericanMuscleCar I was told it was Hurst demo car. It had a lot of cool upgrades. It had 2 in drop front spindles and humongous Herb Adams sway bars. Stock BW 5spd w/ Hurst short shifter, 4:10 gears. Just a 5.0 but all the emissions crap was removed. It was not fastest but it was pretty good with right tires and it would out corner a new Corvette. Now that I am 53, I am looking for an F-body again.

Bit late but I'm hoping to have my '89 350 TA back on the roads soon and I keep coming back again and again to listen to this. Love the sound so much I hope to accomplish anything close to it! But I do have one question, did you keep the muffler or remove it too?

Thanks! The exhaust was made in an exhaust workshop. Everything is very similar to the original exhaust, only the pipe diameter is larger. From the point where the pipes join into one, up to the muffler, the pipe diameter is 70 mm (2.75 inches) and behind the muffler 80 mm (3.15 inches). I hope that helps. Thankd for the comment. This is 305 but now I have new 350 TPI crate engine in ti. It's not finished yet, but soon I hope so. Exhaust...everything is like stock except that the pipes are of a larger diameter, 2.75 inches to the muffler (70 mm) and behind the muffler 3.15 inches (80 mm).

I had no idea you can still find engines like that plus you are in Europe and here its impossible to find shit. I have no idea how are the rules in your country cuz in mine I can't swap engines without the nanny state approval and its impossible to change to a different engine. I guess you just go for the looks since the 5.7 and 5.0 tpi are identical on the outside.

@Adrian-mq5ld I wanted to keep the stock look as much as possible. Plus that engine is build for TPI and it has 419 ft-lbs of torque. Should be a lots of fun to drive. You can change engine here but you have to register it and get certificate.

no difference in power if you just use a decent highflow cat and it stinks WAYYYYYYYYY LESS...ill never run without cats unless its a race car....anything with a mild v8 is NOT a race car though.

Hard to tell. LOL The muffler was made in the exhaust shop, similar to stock but with more flow. Also, the pipes are wider than stock. 2.75 inches to the muffler, and after the muffler 3.15 inches (I had to calculate from metric). I'm afraid this wasn't very helpful. 😁

And you don’t have any issues with the check engine, light or anything without the cats? I’ve been wanting to do it on my 1989 5.7 TPI Trans Am. But I wasn’t sure if it would affect Driveability with the ECM. and stuff.

@@sunwolf6228 I didn't have any problems. A friend of mine removed the cats (4 factory installed) on his 95 Mustang GT and had no problems. I don't think 80s cars should have a problem with that.

Manual transmission were rare on these cars and it came only with 305 TPI engine in GTAs. GTA - Gran Turismo Americano 😉
