Is transactional analysis what happens internally as well when you have habits of self harming or an eating disorder and you have a split second between actions that seem to be on autopilot where you might think to yourself ‘I’m feeling sad; frustrated; stressed; angry etc., I should: self harm, restrict or binge on food, or purge in some way to cope with this unpleasant emotion’ Counter internal argument: “No you shouldn’t, you know how much doing those things harms your body. Sit with the emotion and wait for it to pass.” Totally unrelated, but I’m thinking about training to be a counsellor but I’m not sure if I’m academically intelligent enough, and I’m not sure if counselling others when faced with your own mental health problems is a good idea or not.

A lot of training to be a counsellor is experiential but it is a good idea to have addressed some issues before commencing .
