Mine is a 2006 diesel Big Horn Edition that I bought brand new. It's still pretty much stock aside from the Carli tuned Fox shocks and a Spyntec locking hub conversion. It's got about 120,000 miles now so a freshening of the front end might be worth it. It's driven 99% on road for towing, hauling, and just daily chores. Looking at the Carli track bar and sway bar, good fit for a stock height truck?

Truck looks sick! Your builds have always inspired my own! Curious how the truck drives with 37s being a manual. I plan to do a similar setup on my 5.9 with a 5 speed and 3.73 gears. It’ll be my first time running 37s with a manual truck.

Andrew!! Where on earth do you find these clean third gens? Over the years, I've gone to Texas... I've gone to Utah... just to find these very specific G56 5.9's rigs in a clean condition, but I've yet to come across anything with a frame/body half that clean. The Texas Truck had a clean frame but had absolutely destroyed paint & body. The Frame on the desert Utah truck look good on camera & despite suggesting it hadn't been, had just been freshly spray bombed to hide surface rust. Which is now flaking & heavily scaled just 6 years later. Is it just a matter of me not being willing to search over the 25k mark? Or should I have been specifically searching for 1 owner SoCal trucks under 100k?

With the tire size increase to 37s, what rpm’s does it turn at 70? Do you now have to start off in 1st gear? I have 34’s and turn 2050 rpm’s at 70 and almost never start in 1st except when towing.
@JustDiesels2 жыл бұрын
I can still start in 2nd without issue! Now that it’s on 37s the truck pulls about 1900 at 70 instead of 2400 with the stock tires. The G56 gearing is not fun at highway speeds unless you do larger tires like this. With 37s it’s actually possible to keep up with traffic!

@ericl59732 жыл бұрын
Very nice setup. I am tempted to get some Carli shocks but I am not sure how well the tuning will match my custom air springs. Also want to move to a similar 20" wheel and tire setup as my 37" tires on stock wheels are the not most responsive on the road.
@JustDiesels2 жыл бұрын
Sadly air is hard since the spring rate is both variable depending on pressure, and extremely different than a coil shock! There’s really no shock tuned for air suspension though unless it’s one of the Carli 14+ factory air setups, so your best bet is to use an existing shock and then re-tune as needed.
@ralfhiller90432 жыл бұрын
are you regraring it? with the torque multiplication of the torque converter on an auto, might not be a problem, but with the manual I think it is more crucial. G56, 37s, I would say 4.10 or 4.30 gears would be perfect. love the truck, looks incredible!!
@Fei8lo2 жыл бұрын
With a G56, there is no need to re-gear the truck. It has a crawler gear (6.29:1 or 5.94:1 depending on generation) and the over drive ratio is horrible for the highway. I intentionally put 37" to give an effective 3.40 gear on my G56 to improve highway mileage and drop engine RPM. It still tows just fine under 15k pounds and you can keep it in direct drive (5th) with reasonable speed and RPM.
@JustDiesels2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I might actually re-gear to a 3.55 since even with 37s the truck still does 1900 rpm at 70! I do a lot of long road trips so I’d live to bring that down a few hundred RPM!
@liltyler2092 жыл бұрын

I love your videos, they motivate me. I did watch your free spin hub review video. I'm just curious how those unit bearings are gonna hold up in this new truck, because it's got the same size wheels as your previous truck. I have a 2004 3500 Dually myself. I just purchased Carli ball joints and track bar, Mopar T-style steering and 08.5 pitman arm, Spyntec Free Spin Hubs (haven't ordered yet... still on the fence). My next purchase will be the Carli Backcountry Shocks paired with the Full Progressive Leaf Pack. Seeing how great your SRW truck looks, makes me want to do a DRW to SRW conversion. Have you done a conversion like that before... or have any advice for me?
@Fei8lo2 жыл бұрын
I have the Yukon free spin kit and it help free up 1-2 MPG. Steering feels lighter. Spyntec is a good option. Yukon is more universal in their design and they don't clearance properly for the ABS sensors on my 2006 truck. Unit bearings were holding up fine with 37" in my case, but mostly on road highway miles.

Great vidio as always Andrew, was it a tough call cutting for the 37" 's ? 🤔 I look forward to your engine upgrades, 550 - H.P. is that a goal? Or is it the outcome of what you already did? 🤔 What is your ultimate goal for this project? 🤔 will there be more upgrades to be able to do?? 🤫 off road recovery? Camping? A new rooftop tent? It's so versatile now, but maybe you have a more extreme goal? The truck is so nice! Will you be a little bit afraid to push it ? Like on the tight trails? It's just l am looking for a great truck, maybe even to build one? But my focus is fuzzy, l have an excellent diesel camping truck, articulate, could use some suspension upgrades, but that's it, it's perfect for me, but to do more, l would wreck the great truck l have! Do you get it? Just bable! Excuse me, Your truck is awesome! Enjoy it. Thanks again for sharing. ✌🏻🙋♂️🌧🇨🇦👨🦽😎.
