I'd say one particular pitfall I could not get out of for decades was thinking that the way GW and their studio team paint miniatures is the one true and best way to do it. Go out of the box and explore, both when painting and when drawing inspiration. There are painters out there that do things very differently, sometimes getting better results and sometimes finding far easier processes. At the end of the day, trying to mimic someone else's results or technique will always be unenjoyable as long as it doesn't feel like it is your goal and method. Paint with confidence, paint for fun, and never be afraid if you find what works for you is different.

All great points! A couple things I could add first, always do a test model. It will save you time in the long run. I know you've mentioned this in other videos, but definitely worth mentioning again! The second is to feel free to use the internet for other ideas from other painters, but try not to compare your model to theirs. Especially when starting out! It's not a competition, we're all at different stages.

That is absolutely spot on!

I usually have one model type who looks a little chunkier than his friends because he has been unfortunate enough to weather many test schemes from me who often doesn't have a clue how I want the colours to go lol. but it's definitely the way forward.

@@Narcomancer1943 He's just big boned. 😭 I get that. I'm currently avoiding that by using an older model without the conversions I've given to all the others. Perhaps one day I'll strip him, dismantle, convert and rebuild and make him part of the army too. Who knows!
