The problem with the DCEU was that it wanted what the MCU had, but tried to get it without putting in the work that the MCU did. Like it or hate it, the MCU was built on years of story and hardwork. DCEU tried to rush those years and it ended up flopping big time.

Pretty much every Cinematic Universe except the Monsterverse. They all wanted that interconnected movie universe and immediately get to the big team up movies for that big sweet payday. Not letting that Universe build and grow naturally. The Dark Universe died before even began.

Personally I think the biggest problem was that while the MCU had a plethora of charming and charismatic actors like Robert D.J., Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo, the DCEU had…. Christian Bale and Henry Cavill… sorry but the only actor who really pulled his weight in the DCEU was Heath Ledger. If they would have managed to find actors as dedicated and well fitting as him, it would have been WAY better

I think DC's strengths have been with its animated stuff for decades now. It's not that they can't make good live action big budget movies obviously, but the animated stuff has a better track record consistently. Like besides their shows like Young Justice and Harley Quinn, they had their own extended animated universe for years that they didn't promote or talk about at all like it was something secret, with some great movies that aren't quite long enough to be shown in theaters and not short enough to be called tv shows, and it legit has my favorite 2 Superman movies in it (Death of Superman, Reign of the Supermen).
@Dat1AsianGuy
@Dat1AsianGuy Жыл бұрын
I do agree that the animation been doing far better, and I think it's cause Warner Bros has the access to good animation studios/people. Though I wouldn't say many of their animation are amazing since I've heard that films like Apokolips War and Killing Joke were not good films though I haven't watched, so people could sway me 🤷‍♂ However I have seen Hush and as someone who read the comic, that was no good. Another note is that the lack of promotion is most likely Warner Bros not having faith in the animations cause of maybe animation = Kids/Family only? and yes, it's weird for them to give low promo when they give lots of care on the animation side of things. IDK WB is just weird 😅 I just think that DCEU needs someone to step in from the actual DC studio to shine in, so far I'm interested in James Gunn take we'll see

Superman vs. the Elite legit goes toe to toe with the original 1978 Christopher Reeve Superman film as my favorite Supes film. Also, Batman: Under the Red Hood, Wonder Woman (2009), Dark Knight Returns, Justice League: New Frontier, they had some bangers. I’m honestly about 7 years behind on their animated films, just stopped keeping up with them, but I would like to catch up, glad they’ve slowed down overexposing Batman and JL (as it got to the point most of their animated films were either those two) as I see they made two Constantine films, a John Stewart/GL film, and a Legion of Superheroes film, that’s pretty sweet.

Marvel was heading into that direction too but everything got canned. Spectacular Spider-Man was promising af, it only had 2 short seasons and it's still regarded as the single best adaptation of Spider-Man mythos PERIOD and for a good reason. Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes was also incredible, but got canned Wolverine and the X-men, all of these shows were intended to be in the same universe but they unfortunately traded them for Ultimate Spider-Man and that terrible Avengers show

It's because they forgot the reason as to why these characters are so compelling to begin with. Instead of being inspirational, these characters are empty. You're not seeing Batman work his ass off all day fighting people and crying over his parents graves just to pull himself up and do it all over again, instead you have him killing criminals. In my opinion DC comics are far better than Marvel comics and have way more material to work with The issue with the DCEU is that they tried to copy Marvel while also trying to not copy Marvel, if that makes sense. Like they wanted to have their own cinematic universe with a big convergence of all the heroes in one movie like the Avengers, but didn't want to have origin movies for each of their characters before that like Marvel did. They also wanted fun relatable characters like how Marvel had, but didn't want to be campy and "childish" like Marvel so they got Zack Snyder who made every character depressed and brooding.

the funniest thing being that, multiverse stories are like time travel stories there are dozens of systerms of how it (time travel / multiverse) works, and somehow all of them are wrong and right at the same time, and all of them claim "they are the real deal, all the others are bogus". is not helped that the writers seemingly limit themselves unnecessarily, instead of truly embracing the wildness of the concept one way or another. even the good multiverse stories. 1) Rick and morty for example limited itself by always having "alternate universe where rick is a genius, has a morty sidekick", and most of other times, the other universes are treated as either expandable, or just "gimmick of X thing is Y thing and viceversa" or "smith family but as X thing" (and sure, they explian WHY, but still. for 5 seasons, they limited themselves too much, instead of minimum showing "alternate universe where rick's wife diane was the super genius"). 2) everything and everywhere all at once limited on the "alternate universe is based only on the person's actions" and "you can't actually go there. you just possess your counterpart". only some exceptions like the "no life, only rocks" universe, or the "sausages for fingers" universe (or the universes seen in the montage of multiversal hoping), but those were just teases. heck. they even limited themselves by not showing what you would think was the most obvious universe to visit: universe where evelyn, the protagonist, is the daugther, and joy / jobu, is the mother. 3) even spider-verse limited themselves. as in, sure, they show a massive amount of people from other universes, and gave us a glimpe into their worlds, but that's it. only universes they actually explore, and only a little, are gwen's and pavitr's worlds. and being able to get away with just offering "teases" by saying "this already established work (like spectacular spider-man, PS4 Spider-Man, the live action films), are alternate universes here too" and even then they took the coward option by focusing on the critique towards how miles was received in real life, instead of featuring more alternate miles morales as spider-men (to further hammer the point that "he, especifically protagonist miles, was a mistake"), even though some of the featured spiders comes from a universe with a miles morales as spider-man (PS4 Spider-Man, and LEGO Spider-Man)* * ALTHOUGH the Beyond film might prove me wrong, if it at least shows a montage of the other spiders going to worlds with a miles morales as a spider-man, as they try to find THEIR Miles.

Manga fans have it nice. They don't have to experience a single continuous storyline go on for nearly a century, have that story get spread out over multiple books that fill in the plot holes of the others, pass between different writers every several years, and one of them inevitably derailing everything to establish "their" version of the characters.

I have every horse in this race, and I am just going to keep my head low. What I will say: Garnt's take about DC Movies having 10/10 concepts and 5/10 execution? Welcome to being a DC fan. DC has the templates for superheroes, and yet Marvel with their lineup of (what used to be) C-Listers are now household names that even AniTubers are familiar with who Thor, Captain America, Star Lord, and even Iron Man are.
@lukeamparo6586
@lukeamparo6586 7 ай бұрын
Star Lord I can understand as C Listers. But Thor, Captain America, and Iron Man are C Listers? They’re Avengers. You’re telling me they weren’t household names of Marvel before the MCU? Are we defining Household name character as someone who has had live action movies and or games made for them? By that logic Blade and Ghost Rider should’ve been household names before the MCU but I’d wager the average nerd who’s never read a comic would recognize Thor, Cpt. America, and Iron Man more than Blade and Ghost Rider before the MCU got running. This is thanks to MvC and the Fox Cartoons amongst other media.
@Talyrion
@Talyrion 3 ай бұрын
@@lukeamparo6586 Thor really wasn't that much recognized before the MCU, at least in the general public. Captain America and Iron Man more so, but they weren't Marvel's big hits. ~ back in my days ~ From conversations I had with friends who are more into this than I am, DC actually did have better stories compared to Marvel in the comic books space, and it kind of becomes funny to me when I see them look so helpless looking at how bad a lot of DC movies turn out to be. If there's anything from Marvel that was close or did compete in writing/story-wise, it was X-Men. But man, those movies about them were pretty mishandled if anything. So the MCU was kind of a miracle, especially that it started with a not so popular character (well, back in the day), Iron Man. And it wasn't even under the Mouse yet.
@jobemi2422

I know a lot of people dunk on the MCU now (for solid reasons, the quality has dipped and there’s way to many shows/movies coming out that it feels watered down.) But looking back at the start at the MCU, it is truly incredible that they got here. Marvel was struggling financially for awhile and had to sell off their bigger properties movie rights just to stay afloat (X-Men, Spider-Man, Fantastic 4). To see where Marvel is now compared to where they were 20-30 years ago is night and day.

Is kinda hilarious and cute, that the boys think superhero comics have a problem of "you already saved the earth / galaxy / universe, where you go from there?". Considering one of the biggest events, involving the destruction of the multiverse (specifically, DC Comics' Crisis on Infinite Earths) took place in 1985 (that was almost 40 years ago by the way). It is not a case of "power levels / escalation" stuff. The stakes can be literally about anything, from the smallest stuff like "needing to arrive on time to a date" to the biggest stuff like "save the multiverse from the new enemy", but the main thing is getting creative about HOW you can solve those problems, WHICH characters do it, in which way. They can be the usual heroic paragons we know (like say the avengers, or justice league), or a bunch of screw ups that with some luck don't set themselves on fire each time they breath (like the great lakes avengers or the doom patrol (especifically their TV incarnation)). ACTUALLY dipping further into the craziness and funny stuff of comics would be a step in the right direction, as long as one is able to balance it with something mundane, it can compliment each other. Embrace the weird, it's all i am saying. Not dip further into the "dark, and brooding and serious and honestly boring" stuff. GOD knows the comic industry tried that too much in the 80s - 90s, and it wasn't the best idea. OR if you are gonna do it, get "dark and gory" for the sake of the mainstream audience, and try to appeal to even people who hate superheroes (although i don't get why would you do that but I digress): JUST don't forget the heart of the stuff (like Invincible), or at least back it up with clever satire (like amazon's the boys)

@@randomduck8679 that's just their jojo brains and bias talking. if they read grant morrison's doom patrol or watched the doom patrol live action show, they would probably say "it's too weird, unlike jojo that is weird but manage to be more grounded and realistic". ALSO creating the "ultimate villain" isn't the problem. but properly evaluate the stakes of facing said villain. the starter villain of the story could be the ultimate multiversal threat and the final villain of the story just be your friend turned evil, into a serial killer (a more mundane danger), by how personal their conflict with the protagonist is. the "multiversal threat" sure is theorically more dangerous, and the stakes are the highest they can be, but it is so big, it doesn't feel that close to you. it can be a nice "wake up" call, to the type of world you live in, and serve as the "turning point" of the protagonist. but the friend turned serial killer, (if done right), would feel more personal, more tragic, and more dangerous therefore, the stakes feeling higher, despite being way lower.

Playing as Dobby in a _Harry Potter_ videogame would have more sense than a Gollum game. For starters Dobby is a sidecharacter that its there doing things for most of the story, also house elves in the wizarding world use magic in a very different way to the wizards so it would bypass one of the biggest problems developtmers stumble upon while doing a _Harry Potter_ videogame: there's too much variety in the spells and the wizards have to learn them so you will end up programing dozens of different play-styles of wich the players will only use three or four.

I think superhero movies (and whether we like it or not, pretty much just Marvel) elevated the ceiling of quality of these movies and we are sort of spoiled because of it. We are deathly aware if a movie is mid or average because we miss the incredible moments from the best movies. We hold them to such a high standard. Its definitely part of the reason many DC movies are just trash. Ill never get over how people can rave on about Snyder yet BvS is one of the most annoying and worst superhero movies. Suicide Squad 1 was way easier to watch than that.

Ok, I have two takes after this, and one of them may be considered Hot. 1. Personally, since End Game and stuff, the Marvel thing I’ve enjoyed the most that is legit just it’s own contained story was Moon Knight. Don’t care what others think, I loved Moon Knight from start to end. 2. I also loved the Dungeons and Dragons movie. As someone who only recently got the chance to join a campaign and play the game, I have fallen in love with TTRPGs and the movie basically captured the essence of an amazing campaign perfectly. Had lots of good jokes, and the characters were awesome. Highly recommend it, even if you have no DND experience.

I liked Moon Knight, too, but I'm insanely biased since Moon Knight is one of my favorite heroes. I do feel like it was less quippy than most of the other Marvel stuff, but people are becoming a bit too sensitive to that so any quips or jokes or gags trigger them. Edit: Also, Werewolf By Night was fire.
@SimpleSymonds

@@SomeRandomJackAss I completely agree. I also like Moon Knight too so I was a bit biased going into it. I just was psyched that a lesser character was getting his own series. And the few jokes they did have felt more realistic, If that makes sense. Like the characters tried to joke in the face of danger, and it didn’t help them feel better. I do also kinda think the whole ‘quip and jokes = bad’ thing goes a bit too far. Like with GoTG, I personally love all 3 of the movies including the jokes. Still need to watch Werewolf by Night tho, thanks for the recommendation

Tbf I don’t think he’s far off (if we’re just talking about current or ongoing adaptations) The Boys show is infinitely better then the comic it’s based on. The comic has some fun and interesting ideas, but it comes off as a teenage boy finding out what slurs and swears are for the first time and trying to be edgy just for the sake of it. The show somehow managed to take that mess of a comic, and make it one of the best superhero properties in years. Improved on the backstories of most characters, fleshed out their personalities and motives, showed growth for a lot of them and meanwhile added in a much better take on societal issues that are present today. Probably not the best adaptation ever for a comic, but compared to the cruddy source material it’s for sure up there.

Which speaks more to the ignorance of the general public than the fault of the writers and such. Most Marvel and DC comics are written so that as long as you begin at any arc, you’ll generally follow most of what’s going on. This is why trades are far more newbie friendly. As for other genres (never mind I roll my eyes at labeling Marvel and DC as “just” one genre, ah yes, Captain America having a political action thriller story and Green Lantern having a sci-fi story is all the same because “superhero”), well, you’ve got Image, Dark Horse, IDW, Valiant, etc. pumping out a ton of variety. It’s not on the comic industry if people are too lazy to put any mental effort into seeing what’s out there to read.

By the way guys, I’m not saying that superhero comics are bad or the only type of comics produced. I’m just saying that it makes comics inaccessible to a lot of people because they aren’t aware of other genres or enough support for non-franchise comics from other genres. I just would’ve loved if other genres became a part of the mainstream like the superhero comics or manga. And yea I’m also well aware that most story arcs don’t need prior knowledge, but most people don’t know that because that’s not properly communicated. Before the comics code, comics was one of the most popular mediums for the general public.

Goyer: “One note I got was on Man of Steel, where the ending involves Superman utilizing the pod that he arrived in as a child in order to bring down General Zod’s ship,” recalls Goyer. “The note we got from the studio said, ‘You have to change that.’ We asked why. They said, ‘Because if Superman uses that pod and it’s destroyed while saving the city, how is he ever going to get back home to Krypton?’ There was just this long pause and we said, ‘Krypton blew up. You saw 30 minutes of it!’ Let that sink in. The main heads of the studio, wanted Superman to "go back home to krypton", in a movie clearly showing "krypton was destroyed".

In the comics, multiverse is handle pretty well and writer gives a lot of good story about the multiverse (e.g., Flashpoint, Spiderman Across the Multiverse) and it happen rarely on that time. In cinema, because of the completion, Marvel and DC compete who give a the best multiverse film. The multiverse concept was introduce (outside the comics) in the Flash CW, and their we saw a cameo of DCEU Flash in the CW, and because that concept blow people mind, Marvel of course need a taste of the multiverse int he big screen and because Marvel create a multiverse in the big screen, DC also need to compete with that. This feels like the same from old youtube to new youtube, where old youtube is just awkward people making video for fun and having fun meeting other content creators, but now it's all competition on who's the best. That is like how DC create movie that they think is appropriate to make on that time but because Marvel become successful with the avengers and connected storyline, DC try to compete with them, and this lead to rushed project or movies. I hate how WB messup Flashpoint, one of the best DC story ever. Now let's take a look at Marvel, there's Spider-Man 1 & 2, Spider-verse (both), Logan, Avengers 1, Infinity War, Endgame (vastly overhated imo), Guardians trilogy (consistently great), Deadpool, Captain America 2 & 3, Ragnarok, Iron Man 1 etc. I won't lie, I'm slightly biased towards Marvel but you got the point

What are you saying? I couldn't extract a single bit of information from your statement other than you disagree with joey. Stop getting butthurt when other people have differing opinions you are allowed to enjoy things others don't just as you can drink alcohol when all Muslims detest alcohol

WB has horribly mismanaged the DC live action universe and it's just gone now. It's so sad they never took hints from any of their animated shows and movies. Marvel was great but it dropped after Endgame. I blame Disney for the bad direction they are going now. the buildup to Kang is not being done well and is eerily looking like what WB/DC messed up starting in 2013 to 2023

i am a diehard fan of the Snyderverse since MoS came out. It's different from what Marvel puts out, its serious, it has some banger action scenes, the Snydercut was the best 4 hrs spent for me. It's so damn unfortunate that its gone now.

When the Superhero craze ends Only 3 superhero characters will remain and the ones Hollywood can count on. Batman, Superman and Spider-Man. Maybe X-Men but lets see how Marvel handles that. And its a shame. But thats the truth.

Big agree with Connor. Came to love fantasy as a child and lotr made that love skyrocket. And never was impressed by anything else as much in cinema. The story was simply too good. As well as the execution of the acting and direction of the story.
