Good for you. Another reason to love Rick: his products are durable as heck. My dad and I travelled in Italy for three weeks in January '06--Rick Steves guidebook and phrase book in hand, along with several other products--and the big Rick Steves suitcase that my dad got me for that trip has been my main suitcase ever since, going everywhere from two colleges (total of five years) to Albany, NY to friends' houses and maybe a few other spots, and is still in great shape. I wouldn't be surprised if it lasts for the rest of my life.

What a superb, ethical response to this pandemic. I had the pleasure of hearing Rick Steves speak in the Chicago area in late 2015, and he spoke eloquently about how travel expands our horizons, how we gain deep knowledge of how the rest of the world lives, their culture, their architecture, their food and their politics. I applaud anyone who does what they can to help all of the people affected by this once in a 100 year event.

Mr. Steves, My wife and I were addicted fans of yours starting back in the mid-'90s and were watching the PBS travel shows, reading your books and DVD's etc. Our ultimate goal was to visit France before our two children were to old for us to afford traveling there with us. My wife had a masters in library and information science and was a "research- aholic". This was to be a "trip of a lifetime". We needed to go before our son could walk and was young enough to fly free and our daughter was almost 4. We arrived in mid-May '99 and rented an apartment in the 11th Arrondissment. My wife had a French minor and we planned 7 days in Paris and 7 days in the Loire River Valley. We used all the local transportation, shopped in the neighborhood stores and pushed a double stroller with the two kids, camera bag, jackets, food etc. The most frightening experience was going to the patisserie which were always packed. One couldn't ask what's this or that because there was always a long line so you had to know what you wanted like in the "soup nazi" store in the Seinfeld TV series. But we pretty much saw the major iconic sights.
