If I paid for someone to come on a trip specifically to celebrate my anniversary and they couldn't even be bothered to show up to the main dinner, I'm never even inviting them on a trip again let alone paying for them. OP was definitely an asshole and the mother in law had good reason to leave her out. She's not obligated to let her know that she's planning a girls trip or invite her. OP seems like one of those kids that was miserable to be around and when you didn't want to play with them a mom would come and make you.

Totally agree with Alejandra about being ok with parting ways when youre not being respected anymore. I stopped talking to my best friend of 20+ years earlier this year after several years of her lifestyle, behavior, and disrespect pushed me over the edge. I tried talking about it for the third time in 3 years and she "didnt have time for it" so I said ok. Done. Story 4: YTA the MIL made the plans so she has every right to decide who’s going. And if she doesn’t want you there, why would you try to force her to let you go??? You’re not going to have fun and you just ruined your MIL trip she arranged. If you wanted to be part of a girls trip, well YOU make the plans. If MIL doesn’t want to go to your planned girls trip , that’s on her. Instead of trying to make her let you go, why don’t you just apologize for the anniversary trip your ruined and tell her you’ll try to respect her plans next time. Nothing irks me more than people I invited trying to change the plans I made. MIL took the time to make the plans, respect the effort she made.

Story 4: DEFINITELY TA. I think a lot is being left out. Dealing with things head on can be done civilly. It was the "I could go and hang out with everyone on the beach & then choose which activities I go to" That would be perfectly fine IF SHE WAS PAYING. Also, how "distracted" could she possibly have been to completely miss the anniversary dinner. Being the focal point of that entire trip I'm sure everyone spent time getting ready, probably at the same hotel, all leaving for the dinner at the same time. And the dinner likely wasn't a quick dinner at Chili's. If she did suffer from ADHD or have some sort of issue that causes her to be distracted for long periods of time SET AN ALARM... also I'm guessing details about the husband were intentionally left out. Did he go to the dinner? How many times did he call or text her asking where she was? How many other family members called or texted wondering where she was? The dinner was probably ruined by everyone being so worried about where OP was or if something had happened to her etc. OP didn't care. I didn't hear one mention of her saying "I felt so terrible & I've apologized so many times in many ways". She said she doesn't like schedules. And the use of "important" in quotes tells me OP didn't give a damn.

Alejandra’s personal story reminds me a lot of something similar that happened to me when I went traveling with my mom in London. She also has the personality to be suuuper kind and personal to street vendors/workers in general, so when we were taking a street cab it was no different. It was Christmas Eve and we took a London cab to get to the trains station. She was doing her usual thing to the driver, getting the guys whole life story and generally being super nice to him, thanking him a bunch for working like this on a holiday when he probably had a family to see. After the trip was done, we tipped him greatly and got off. I soon realized I had left all (yes all) my luggage on the cab. How did I not notice? Idk. Anyways. By the time I noticed he was probably long gone and out of the city. We were trying to talk to other cab drivers seeing if they had any information about how to recover lost things but it seemed to be a dead end. Right before we were about to leave the car loop, we saw a hand waving us down from a taxi. It was the guy who had come back after realizing our stuff was still in his car. I was so thankful for him that day especially since it was a large city like London right on the middle of the holidays. Morgan is right. Being nice to these kinds of workers who are usually over looked is super important.

As someone who gets super anxious at the airport, I would be so mad if my partner made me go through the regular line when I have a TSA precheck. It makes everything so much easier and faster and way less stressful. Also, she can easily get it and isn't for no reason. If you want them to stick together, get TSA pre-check. Lastly, the fact that the GF says she was abandoned all the time to their friends? That would get under my skin, she's getting mad at him for her own lack of taking action. The OP shouldn't have to have a more stressful airport experience just because she isn't willing to fill out a form. No, thank you. Idk why this gets me so annoyed because, in the end, it's not that serious lolol

I say "for what?!" a lot when someone does something nonsensical. It took until today when my husband heard Morgan say it for me to know where I got it from 😅

I actually did poop my pants for the first (and only) time in the Gardens of Versailles!! I was 16 and traveling alone and really let loose eating dairy, which wasn't something I really did at home. It was late July, so it was insanely hot out, and I was walking around after having a coffee and some ice cream when my stomach really started to hurt. I found a bathroom and got in the fairly long line. By the time I was nearly at the front, the woman in front of me must have noticed how uncomfortable I was so she told me to go ahead and right as I passed her it started to come out. I shut the stall door, pulled my shorts down - thankfully my underwear caught all of it - and finished up. I threw the underwear away in the stalls trash can and went home in my jorts. That's how I found out I was lactose intolerant. It's been ten years since that happened and I absolutely tell that story all the time

Here's my own traveling story: In 2020 (yes during the pandemic) I went to Germany for an exchange program (I'm Chilean) and there were 4 other Chilean girls staying in the same city as me. We decided to go to Berlin for a weekend, on the first day we walked around all day and at around 6PM we sat down at a park where 3 of those girls started drinking. Me being the introvert that I am was getting a little anxious as it was starting to get dark and I didn't wanna stay out too late in a city I didn't know, so I told them I would be returning to the AirBnB we rented and the remaining girl that wasn't drinking accompanied me. When we returned to the city we were staying in I got messages from the 3 girls that were drinking that night in a group chat with the 5 of us that if I didn't adapt to their "traveling style" that I wouldn't be allowed to join them on the next trip. It made me cry and when the girl that accompanied me saw those messages, she chewed them out, saying "It's not like she (me) forced any of us to come back to the Airbnb with her!" I'm glad I wasn't completely alone that day. Now I'm a little more selective when it comes to who I travel with to avoid situations like that.

About the poop thing, my ex and I lived in a studio for a year and both with IBS, we had to let go of that fear. It was so funny, we’d run screaming “DONT STOP LOVING MEEEEEEEE” when we knew it would be bad. God forbid one person was in the shower when the other had an emergency.

Wow I’m very surprised how good the audio is when you guys were in front of the Eiffel tower!! I have my AirPods in doing dishes while listening and I can sometimes hear someone screaming in the background but it’s very faint and not a distraction at all. So kudos to y’all for that!! Very cool episode.

So when I went on vacation with my BF I would turn on the shower while I pooped. I would get the deed done, flush then shower. When I was finished with the shower I would flush again just to make sure everything was clean. My boyfriend eventually asked me if I was having constipation issues because he never heard or smelled me haha. I told him my trick, thanked him for his concern and reassured him that I was fine.

I loved what morgan said about miserable people convincing others. Misery loves company can be applied to a lot. Friends who go out to bars all the time are always dragging on the friends that don't. People that do drugs or can't keep a job usually will try to drag their friends or family down with them, because instead of working hard and reaching their peers success, they'd rather just bring people down to their level so they feel better and more comfortable about the situation they're in. Always be careful about who's in your circle.

for story 4: i’ve heard this thing “assume best intentions and own your impact” the idea is that the person harmed hopefully refrains from assuming that the harming person is acting maliciously, while the person that harmed the other owns up to the harm that they have done without trying to deflect. i think that this generally is such a productive way to operate in relationships.

With the MIL trip story, I personally feel that ESH. Personally I absolutely loathe people who just stand others up. I'm not saying MIL and SILs were necessarily right, but I also feel there could be a whole lot if other behaviors and incidents we dont know about from OP.

for the tsa thing, i can a little bit relate to maybe why the girl says she was abandoned. its not the exact right word, but as a person with social anxiety, at some situations especially airports where its filled with people, i definitely felt nervous and felt the need to have a person with me by my side to feel less awkward. because yeah, logically nothing will happen if you wait by yourself , which is why i think she has a reason which she doesnt articulates to him besides calling it him abandoning her.
