What does everyone think, does this look like a Russian version of Aldi Supermarket? I think it does. Right down to the metal baskets with the weekly specials in them. Also the bakery section in the front. Also lots of great priced wine. @Sergey_Bezhentsev alcohol sales are regulated by state. For example, 1 of the states can only sell hard liquor in state owned liquor stores, but you can buy beer and wine almost everywhere. The neighbouring state has private liquor sales, but beer and wine sales are more strict.

Just watched a video from a farmer explaining about potatos, he said that unwashed ones are good for storageing, the washed ones will rott very fast but if you keep the dirt on you just have to keep the dark and reasonable cool for them to not go green.

the fact that unwashed root vegetables are stored longer is a well-known fact, by the way, the same applies to apples, apples have a natural protective layer of wax and if you wash it off with water, the apple will dry out quickly and shrivel, so it is better to wash apples immediately before eating

@@MaaaXIMuuuZ falsch..ich sehe seit 2,5 Jahren keinerlei Berichte...nirgendwo...dass in Russischen Supermärkten Eier, Kartoffeln oder sonst was ausgeht. Wo siehst Du solche Berichte? Die Sanktionen sollen die Kriegsmaschine von Lord P austrocknen. Hast Du mal das Russische Budget 2025 gesehen. Schon mal was von Kriegswirtschaft, Brain Drain, Leitzins, Inflation etc etc gehört. This store is a LOT cleaner - and better stocked - than my local Aldi's. Better lighting too! I can remember buying Alpine Gold when I was in Poland. Personally, I prefer fresh, unsliced bread. I got two Aldi in walking distance. They are totally different, in size in sortiment and even in some prices, they are both clean but the big one has bad lighting. So i guess its the individual fanchise taker that makes the difference, rather than the place the store is in.

One is older and seems to always stay "dirty", one is the hangout for a "recovery home" so almost everything (including socks and underwear) is locked up, and one is nice, fairly well-stocked, and clean. I noticed that color schemes are a good indicator of the supermarket’s price range. Orange is upscale, but not most expensive, natural pastel colors like light brown, black-n-white, grey, and beige are upscale, greens and red are discount budget supermarkets, while yellow and blue (e.g., IKEA and Walmart) signify the gigantic choice and the size of the establishment. This one indeed looks like Aldi. 👍

This store looks similar to the Tesco in Liverpool St London I often visit. It is just as large, but this is where similarities end. Russian store is cleaner, shelves look better stocked and when it comes to prices let me just say I have to pay £3.50 for 6 eggs in London and this is my usual price. In this Russian store you get 10 eggs for less than a dollar. We are looking at price difference that's not just 100% or 200% we are looking at prices that are many times lower. For the price of 1 UK priced egg you get 10 in Russia. And even considering some differences in salaries, let's get real here. Salaries in Russia are not 10 times lower, some IT people in Moscow get paid $10K per month. This is the kind of salary vast majority of Londoners could only dream about. Sure there are other jobs that don't pay $10K per month in Russia, but this talk of low salaries in Russia is pointless because some Russians earn way more than you'd be able to earn in London or NY.

In Russia there is a network of Red and white, they mainly sell alcoholic beverages, they have around 25,000 stores across the country, these are small shops in size, so they negotiate directly with alcohol producers to buy very large batches, they take a large batch for sale, but with a minimum margin from the manufacturer, that is if the manufacturer has alcohol in stock and for some reason it cannot be sold for a long time, these guys come and say we will take it from you, but at this price and many go for it, also, many manufacturers make alcohol under a certain brand, which is sold only in the network of these stores, naturally the network sets the parameters it needs for the manufacturer in terms of price, composition, product style and packaging

As you may have noticed in “Da!” stores, the layout of goods is very simple - on wooden pallets and in boxes. Also, these stores are located in premises with cheap rent (like the basement in this video). This is what helps to keep prices low in such stores. I love your supermarket tours since for reasons unknown, I just love grocery stores and shopping for good prices. One factor here in the USA, is that sometimes large pachages, often called family packs, offer good bargains, but only if you have a large family or own a chest freezer or the more expensive vertical shelf types. I have a chest, purchased for USD90 twenty years ago, and working well. A little more difficult to keep organized, or to access stuff at the bottom, but ok for people on a tight budget. What are the prices of such chest freezers in Russia, and are they at all popular?

@@TravellingwithRussell I think there are various factors... For example here in Colombia it's said that sometimes is cheaper the international transportation than the domestic one. Also, farmers have various challenges to sell their products directly to consumers, most of them use intermediaries which ends up in higher prices. Also, here there are few big enterprises that produce most processed food or animal products, which again, makes them pricey (though I would say, fruits might be an exception or at least, they are more widely sold, then it's complicated for those companies to rise prices arbitrarily). Finally, considering the purchasing power of the average Colombian buying food becomes harder.

The plastic wheeled baskets have become quite popular in BC, Canada. Ideal for single shoppers, and cheaper for stores, also not a target for the homeless, etc to steal. I think that is looks like a discount store. Problem with comparing prices between countries is that without knowing average incomes you can't really tell if an item is cheap or expensive. To people in Canada for instance the prices in Russia will seem low, but it they were living in Russia they would probably not hold that opinion.

Russell do you know why eggs are refrigerated in US and Canada in a grocery store but not in other countries like Russia?
@jerrylee4485
@jerrylee4485 6 күн бұрын
If you've ever been to the supermarket in the USA, you'll notice that eggs are stored in the fridge. This is not the case in this country. What is behind this? In Germany, you buy eggs in the supermarket or at the weekly market directly from the farmer. There they are usually offered unrefrigerated in the display. But if you look for eggs in the supermarket in the USA, you will find them in the refrigerated section. Throughout Europe and virtually nowhere else in the world are eggs sold unrefrigerated in retail stores. What is this all about? In the USA and Canada, fresh hens' eggs are washed and dried. The reason for this? This method is intended to ensure that there are no infectious chicken droppings on the eggshell. For example, salmonella, which can pose a health risk to consumers. So an advantage, right? In this country, however, washing eggs is actually not recommended. In Europe, industrial washing is even prohibited. Out of concern about salmonella or other contaminants, some consumers wash or clean raw eggs after purchase. However, this is not recommended, says the consumer advice center. Eggs have a natural protective layer. If this is damaged, germs can more easily get inside the egg. But why do Americans wash their eggs? Of course, any dirt is rinsed off the shell, but so is the valuable protective layer. In comparison: In Europe, care is taken to ensure that eggs are not contaminated in advance. For example, hens are vaccinated against salmonella and it is trusted that the shell of the egg naturally protects against germs and bacteria. Except in the USA - eggs are better stored at room temperature Once the eggs have been washed, they need to be permanently refrigerated. From the farm to the consumer's home. This is the only way to ensure that possible bacteria do not get inside the egg. Therefore, once the egg has been washed, it should be kept in the refrigerator. Room temperature would accelerate bacterial growth. However, if the egg still has its natural protective layer, it is better to store it at room temperature. This prevents the egg from becoming damp and there is no breeding ground for bacteria to grow on. If you live in the USA, it is better to keep your eggs in the fridge.
