Just watched a video from a farmer explaining about potatos, he said that unwashed ones are good for storageing, the washed ones will rott very fast but if you keep the dirt on you just have to keep the dark and reasonable cool for them to not go green.
@макслюлюкинАй бұрын
the fact that unwashed root vegetables are stored longer is a well-known fact, by the way, the same applies to apples, apples have a natural protective layer of wax and if you wash it off with water, the apple will dry out quickly and shrivel, so it is better to wash apples immediately before eating

I got two Aldi in walking distance. They are totally different, in size in sortiment and even in some prices, they are both clean but the big one has bad lighting. So i guess its the individual fanchise taker that makes the difference, rather than the place the store is in.

Orange is upscale, but not most expensive, natural pastel colors like light brown, black-n-white, grey, and beige are upscale, greens and red are discount budget supermarkets, while yellow and blue (e.g., IKEA and Walmart) signify the gigantic choice and the size of the establishment. This one indeed looks like Aldi. 👍

This store looks similar to the Tesco in Liverpool St London I often visit. It is just as large, but this is where similarities end. Russian store is cleaner, shelves look better stocked and when it comes to prices let me just say I have to pay £3.50 for 6 eggs in London and this is my usual price. In this Russian store you get 10 eggs for less than a dollar. We are looking at price difference that's not just 100% or 200% we are looking at prices that are many times lower. For the price of 1 UK priced egg you get 10 in Russia. And even considering some differences in salaries, let's get real here. Salaries in Russia are not 10 times lower, some IT people in Moscow get paid $10K per month. This is the kind of salary vast majority of Londoners could only dream about. Sure there are other jobs that don't pay $10K per month in Russia, but this talk of low salaries in Russia is pointless because some Russians earn way more than you'd be able to earn in London or NY.

In Russia there is a network of Red and white, they mainly sell alcoholic beverages, they have around 25,000 stores across the country, these are small shops in size, so they negotiate directly with alcohol producers to buy very large batches, they take a large batch for sale, but with a minimum margin from the manufacturer, that is if the manufacturer has alcohol in stock and for some reason it cannot be sold for a long time, these guys come and say we will take it from you, but at this price and many go for it, also, many manufacturers make alcohol under a certain brand, which is sold only in the network of these stores, naturally the network sets the parameters it needs for the manufacturer in terms of price, composition, product style and packaging

@@TravellingwithRussell I think there are various factors... For example here in Colombia it's said that sometimes is cheaper the international transportation than the domestic one. Also, farmers have various challenges to sell their products directly to consumers, most of them use intermediaries which ends up in higher prices. Also, here there are few big enterprises that produce most processed food or animal products, which again, makes them pricey (though I would say, fruits might be an exception or at least, they are more widely sold, then it's complicated for those companies to rise prices arbitrarily). Finally, considering the purchasing power of the average Colombian buying food becomes harder.

The plastic wheeled baskets have become quite popular in BC, Canada. Ideal for single shoppers, and cheaper for stores, also not a target for the homeless, etc to steal. I think that is looks like a discount store. Problem with comparing prices between countries is that without knowing average incomes you can't really tell if an item is cheap or expensive. To people in Canada for instance the prices in Russia will seem low, but it they were living in Russia they would probably not hold that opinion.

@@reckersworld9351 In Russia people prefer fresh food as they shop several times a week, shops are very close to houses...unlike the US where people do big weekly shopping as they live miles away from the shops with no public transport and throw away not-fresh left-overs. Garbage disposal or a food chopper is another evil american invention.

Both ALDI and LIDL ( I have both right near my house ) and they are more upscale now than they were, and the previous snobbery is less - I mean from people not wanting to be seen shopping there 🙂 I pick and choose between them, Sainsburys and Waitrose over here.

I just watched youtube channel "Headshot" and they interviewed Russians on the streets. They said they couldn't afford beef or even sausages anymore and had not eaten meat for months. Parents said they had to go hungry in order to feed their kids. They said pensioners where living on kefer and bread. They said utilities and food prices have skyrocketed and pensioners only live on $166 per month. Who is showing the truth?
