missmilimak…Are you doing the Viking Christmas market cruise? We’re doing the 12/14 one and are pretty excited! We’ll have two days, pre-cruise, in Amsterdam (first time there), as well, and are looking forward to exploring some of that city. (Our second cruise, ever) Lauri, in addition to your safety & activity ideas, I always appreciate your packing suggestions, since I try to pack only in carry-on & personal item. I learned, many years ago, my first time traveling Germany with students, NOT to take a HEAVY rolling bag (check-in size); my wheels went flat (mostly just on one side😀) from rolling over many cobblestones, and I was literally dragging my over-loaded bag around Germany. 😫 The next trip with students, I took a big hiking-style backpack-again, too heavy, but at least no worries about flat wheels. Then, as I got older…my shoulders completely rebelled and refused to be happy with a pack. Now, “lightweight and easy mix’n’match” is the name of the game, while still looking classy (trying to, anyway😉). Maybe someday I’ll get a very nice rolling carry-on bag, but I’ve had good luck with Costco bags and a variety of personal item bags or packs. Happy winter season to you all!

Good tips, Laurie! Being a full time traveler, I use a lot of these tips you mention. I’m currently in Strasbourg, France, and have been watching them getting the street lights up, and building the Christmas markets. I’m so glad you mentioned going to other nearby cities and towns, as it’s so easy with public transit to see other areas. I went to Kehl, Germany for lunch today. Lol! Anyway, the only additional suggestion I have is the clips you use on your backpack or purse zippers. There is a brand I’ve purchased at REI that is a dual carabiner that will lock, called Nite Ize. They make two locking kinds, but the one I like is much easier to operate. It’s the S-Biner Slidelock. It’s metal, but with a tight plastic/rubber slider that keeps the carabiner from opening when locked. It can also be used as a regular dual carabiner if you choose not to activate the slide. Let me know if you try it out, and what you think. Keep the awesome videos coming! You do a great job!

Not a packing tip per se but along the lines of keeping items safe: NEVER hang your backpack, purse, or jacket (if you have items in pockets) on the back of a chair in any public space! If your seat has a solid back, sit with the backpack/purse at your back; if not, keep it on your lap. And don't think that if you put it on the floor it's saf: a "good" thief will be able to get to it. One time in Germany we were on a funicular and one of our fellow-travelers put her backpack next to her on the seat - it was gone when she got up to leave.

Hi Laurie. I am traveling in December for a Rhine River Christmas Market cruise. I saw your short a little while back mentioning the reason you had to get rid of most of what you took on a trip. I'm curious why you did not or could not mention it here. I'm sure you have a good reason! At any rate, one tip I read recently about Christmas Market visits is to put a trash bag in your back pack so you have something to sit on if the chair or bench you want to sit on is wet. Maybe some smaller plastic grocery bags to put sticky mugs in while you continue shopping! They take up almost no space and would come in handy. Another is to have coins in local currency for bathrooms. I have been collecting small sheets of bubble wrap to take with me to wrap those new ornaments I am planning to buy! I am not traveling carry on only and am not planning on using trains, except maybe for day trips I have planned before and after the cruise.
@TravelTipsbyLaurie12 күн бұрын
Oh my word, I love that trash bag to sit tip! You can also buy a drink at a local fast food restaurant to be able to use their restroom if you cannot find one. But the markets had alot easily accessible. Yep had to take the video down and cannot talk about it.

also, be aware not all feet are created equal. get an arch support that is correct for your feet. - and test it before you go.

The jacket you had linked did not have straps to be able to wear like a backpack. Is there another link that should have been provided.

Hi!! Can you please tell me about traveling with a small pet? My dad was diagnosed with cancer and my husband and I want to travel from Florida to Montana for Christmas with two small dogs. United seems to be the best price but we haven’t bought tickets yet. One dog fits in the 11X11X18 soft sided kennel easily. The other is bigger, still fits, can turn around tightly but I don’t think would be able to tolerate it if the crate needs to be squished down to fit under the seat. Do you know? Or if another airline has more room? I’m terrified of hurting my pup. Thank you for any information

Hey I have a question how do connecting flights for minors work? I’m going’s on a connecting flight that stops in Georgia I’m flying with Aeromexico
@TravelTipsbyLaurie9 күн бұрын
Hi if you pay for unaccompanied minor, an employee takes you to the next flight. If you don’t pay for it, you are responsible for finding the next gate. Tips: download the airport map. Remember that flights make you board 30-45 mins before the time on your ticket so get there quick.

Thanks for your info. We're heading to Budapest in December for River Cruise/Christmas Markets. I'm very nervous about theft in crowded areas. Your little umbrella versus large cruise supplied ones was an excellent tip.

Wear your purse under your coat! You can get what you need quickly but feel safer. I only had a little cash, credit card, tissues, and chapstick in my tiny purse. You really don’t need a lot. YouWe did this cruise 2 years ago and had the best time! Enjoy your cruise!

You'll be so much more at ease like I said, in the winter, because you'll have on your coat over it.

Hello! I'm watching your videos and suddenly they've been dubbed by another voice. Is it something related to the algorithm? Is it because of the country where I'm watching it?

One major thing you missed was the use of your Apple Watch, or the other brand, to pay for things. No need to practice hiding your credit cards, just tap and the payment is done. No need to worry about cards in the vast majority of places.

TIP: check when they close! Some markets in Germany close at 21:00. They open at 11:00 or 12:00. At the German town I live they have a medieval part. We usually go early not to get squeezed.
