WOW! I’m impressed! Everything in this video looked delicious. And elegant. The Yorkshire pudding that Joann had twice looked just like the Yorkshire Pudding my mom used to make. My British grandmother taught her how to make it. This video is seriously pushing me to book our first Princess cruise. We really need to branch out and try new cruise lines. We’ve been on 32 cruises with RCL, Celebrity and HAL. I think it’s time to try something new. Thanks for the video. It’s always a pleasure watching Joann enjoy (most) of what she orders. 😆

I've never seen anyone eat escargot by adding it to a piece of bread. I might be able to eat them that way! (I love garlic and butter, but the texture of the escargot by itself is not pleasant to me.) Thank you for your reviews of these meals. I'm hoping we see some of them on our Alaska cruise in June.

Adding escargot to bread is a great way to try them. The bread helps soak up the tasty garlic butter so the textural contrast may be more appealing to you. Definitely give it a try! Thanks for the comment, and have a great time in Alaska!

*One* 6oz lobster tail for $19 (plus gratuity, I imagine)???? Insane. However, the Beef Wellington with the truffle Madeira looks amazing. That Vol-au-Vent pastry looked absolutely divine. Oxtail Soup? Oh my word, so fun!!! That Rack of Lamb… *Yes, I have to comment on EVERYTHING.* 😂 “Iced Cointreau Soufflé?” Blow me down!! And that chocolate tart with the crème anglaise would have me in a terrifying state of bliss. The strip loin appears amazingly well-prepared. I’m impressed! Wow, even the vegetarian options look tantalizing . Coq au Vin is one of my all time faves! It’s all about the wine sauce… nope, you cannot go wrong with turkey breast! That looked soooo good! As per our previous Bolognese discussion, Joann consistently talks about how salty it tastes, and I have to agree with her. Funny thing is, I make it at home now, and even though there is hardly any salt added, it still registers salty!! But I’m okay with that. Bolognese is generally made with whole cream or milk added, and that should calm down the salty flavor, but unfortunately not a lot. What I’m guessing is that when you look at the dish, your palate expects normal spaghetti sauce, which usually contains a fair amount of sugar, which might also contribute to tamping down the salty flavor. Proper Bolognese contains absolutely no added sugar, so when it goes in your mouth, the palate goes “YIKES!” I dunno. It’s weird. I can’t believe how great everything looks. It’s all so well-prepared and well-plated. Lots of creativity, which as I’ve said before, contributes to an atmosphere of conviviality and goodwill among passengers. I get excited to sit down to a meal like this. It seems like the chefs really enjoy what they’re doing. This is such a stark contrast to what was served in the MDR on NCL’s Encore on a voyage I took with them a couple of years ago. I would have thought their food would be more innovative, but not even remotely like what Princess is doing. I was very disappointed. What ship was this?

Yeah we also thought Princess did a terrific job- not just the taste but also plating as well. That Rack of Lamb was excellent, and a rarity nowadays to find as a complimentary dish on cruises. The Beef Wellington was really tasty, and the sauce from the Coq au Vin was delicious. We hear you on the Bolognese- lack of sugar can be a salty surprise! Agree with you that Princess has better food than NCL, especially at the MDR. This was from the Regal Princess. Thanks you very much for the in-depth comment Scott! 😊

The iced Cointreau soufflé kind of interesting because it wasn't like a typical soufflé and more like a custard. Not sure if it was a mistake on Princess' part. 💯 with you on the tofu- crispy and warm is the way to go! And yes even though the duck was tender we did miss the crispy skin. Haven't locked in spring plans yet- we're kind of last minute cruisers. We're glad you enjoy cruising vicariously with us and hope you get better and get back to cruising soon! 🙂

I was on the Regal Princess 2 years ago and the food was really bad, we ended up eating ashore whenever possible! Seeing your video makes me think if i should try them again and it was only this bad because of the pandemic!? Love Celebrity and Holland America ! Hope to meet you on a cruise!

Yeah they had some really good dishes at the main dining room for dinner. Buffet had nice selection though not as high quality as the MDR. So maybe you'll give them another try and let us know what you think! We like Celebrity & HAL as well- great food & service. Thanks for the comment, and maybe we'll see you on a cruise! 😊

Another great video. We were really impressed with the MDR food on the Regal Princess both in terms of selection and quality other than an occasional steak dish. I really like the inclusion of many traditional high end dishes that I have only seen on culinary school menus. There were a lot of good dishes on that ship that I have started making at home including some of the cold soups.

Thank you! 😊 Yes we enjoy that too! Our waiter would always ask us if we wanted fresh ground pepper and if yes he'd apply them using a grinder. Our son especially like all the meat dishes such as steak 🙂

I have not cruised on Princess but have been on many Holland America cruises. Which line would you say serves better dinners in the MDR? How about which has better lunches in the buffet? Thanks for making these videos!

Our pleasure- thanks for the comment! 😊 MDR dinner is a close call between the 2, though maybe a small advantage goes to Princess as they still have lobster night. For buffet we do much prefer HAL for higher quality offerings and a more sanitary system as it's crew-served. Princess does have slightly more selection, and one nice thing is that they will bring your non-bar drinks to your table at the buffet, whereas HAL and other cruise lines are not as consistent with that.

You can technically order an appetizer portion for certain dishes. I also ordered a main as an appetizer once because I didn't like any of the starters that night. I do wonder if anyone has ever had dessert first or returned for dinner #2 in the MDR? Or took dessert back to the room from the MDR?

We never tried it, but it's certainly not a problem to go back to the MDR later, especially if you didn't enjoy what you ordered earlier, or you simply want something you really liked again. Though you'll likely have to wait a little bit to get the food. And you can sure bring dessert (or any other food) back to the cabin- they'll even help you pack it up with a cover.

One more thing. Our cruise on the Regal Princess was a last minute decision and therefore, we could not get guaranteed early dining. On the Regal Princess, there are three MDRs. The third, the Allegro, is on deck 6 aft and is cut off from the rest of the ship and is almost never crowded. We were immediately seated every night while there were lines at other MDRs. The staff in that dining room seemed to be very veteran and provided very efficient service.

We actually ate at Allegro the entire cruise and it was pretty busy the first two days but we walked right in once we were able to get our permanent table. The staff definitely was very efficient and did a great job!

With the Princess premier package you can eat twice at specialty restaurants, some of which do offer lobster. It does not include extra lobster tail at the main dining on lobster night- but if you ask your server nicely they might just bring you another 🙂

Nope everything's included on the menu other than the lobster & filet mignon which have a price next to them. The asterisk is the typical food might be undercooked so eat at your own peril warning.
