Wonderful presentation, loved the positve vibe trough out all of your videos. After going all the way for the cave and found there is an iron door at the middle i would have complained (with disappointment) however you know well what matter is the journey not the destination. So we are lucky due to pandemic you stayed in Turkey more and we are enjoying wonderful country even more. Keep up to good work, looking forward for next episode.

My grandma was from mountain villages of Antalya. She was telling me rd childhood times, she told me that they were calling those kind of caves or pits near water sprigs as Koyak and they were using the caves, pits etc to keep their butter, cheese etc. Because they are so cold. Also they were using the ice cold waters to make butter, to cool milk .

Hi - The MOT is for UK insurance - we are not planning on coming back to the UK via Europe and we will be able to re MOT Trudy when she finally comes home after the USA or Canada - if for any reason we can not continue East and we do need to return to the UK with Trudy there is a shipping company that will ship directly from Istanbul to UK and we can get a new MOT when we get there. Merhaba Marianne and Chris, I have been following your channel for over couple of months now and today I have decided to subscribe to it. I am a self-teaching English learner and I am particularly interested in British English. I have already taken note of many phrasal verbs, idioms, colloquialism etc. from your dialogues. Today I have watched the video on EĞİRDİR and taken notes on certain grammar points. I heard this expression from Marianne talking about the citadel: "this citadel would have been here to protect the whole area" . I do not quite understand whether she is giving her opinion about the citadel or talking about a fact in the past. I would greatly appreciate if you or anyone here make it clearer for me by rephrasing it. For your information, Eğirdir is on the "St.Paul way", a popular culture route for backpackers running between Isparta, Yalvaç and Antalya, Perge. This culture route and Lycian Way route were both designed by Kate Clow, a British lady living in Antalya.

If anyone is unsure about how to pronounce “ğ” sounds in the Turkish language, as in the conflicted name of the town “Eğirdir,” you can consider it a bit close to the pronunciation of the letter “r” in the French language but it is close, not similar or same; actually much softer like when you say “Air” in (British) English, you almost say “Eğ” in Turkish. In fact, it is not killingly effective in our daily funny communications as world citizens. If you are not familiar with any of the above languages, the best idea is to ignore the “ğ” sound and pronounce it as “Eirdir”

Woohoo, you went to Egirdir! 20 years ago, we stumbled by accident on that town (we had taken a wrong bus!) and since it was late, found a room for the night before , supposedly to leave on the next day... We ended up staying 10 days there, and made friends with a local apple orchard owner who hosted us with his family, it was paradise

A really useful aspect of the Turkish language is that if you learn the alphabet you can pronounce just about anything correctly, because it's so consistent and almost completely phonetic. We can thank Atatürk for that! The horned ğ, undotted ı and umlauted ö and ü take a bit of getting used to, but once you nail them it makes life a lot easier.

You can go zindan cave very close to egirdir. And it is very famous

The little g with the reverse hat "ğ" is like an accent in French "é" it's muted and just tells you to strech the vowel preceding it, so it should read out Eeirdir just like Hawaii.

Thanks for yet another wonderful tour. The letter Ğ has the function of lengthening the preceding vowel, and so never features as the first letter of a word. The letter itself also seems to have a slight sound of its own but even we expats just can't seem to get it right! 😜
