I had a detailing business for years, so my 1999 M3 was looking great after the restore. Still, I paid $350 for the same service and got this done. He did a spectacular job. Now I have one of the nicest E36 M3s in the country.

This actually looks so good, I'm new to the car community and I'm looking into getting my first car which also happens to be an E36. When I get it I'm definitely getting this done to it, I'm in luck because I so happen to live in Utah.

What do you guys think? As a kid, my parents had a very beautiful Madeira Violet E36 320i convertible with an M-pack. I LOVED it! Ever since then, it has been my dream to own a E36 M3 convertible. I've actually always delayed getting one even though I've been checking the market for about 8 years now. In the meantime, I bought another dream car of mine instead, the Skyline R32 GTR. I've rebuilt the engine and it pushes 583hp. While I really love it and it's a crazy, unique machine, I'm actually not enjoying it as much as I thought I would. I ran against so many issues since I owned it, it has cost me way more money than I would have wanted and it doesn't feel like it was worth it. But I'm really torn between keeping the R32 or selling it and chase my other dream to find a mint condition E36 M3 convertible. On some days I'm really convinced I will do it and on other days I fear that I might miss the R32 and that it would be a mistake. What do you guys think? Would I be crazy to sell my R32 GTR to get an E36 M3? Why I want an E36 convertible: - The nostalgia from when I was a kid - I actually prefer to cruise around with my car, enjoy the weather and the scenery compared to go out to drive flat out. - I know my wife would enjoy it as well and she would like to go on trips together. (She doesn't like the R32 at all :p ) - ...

To properly wash and dry a car, clay bar then 2 stage machine polish alone takes hours upon hours and it is in that as to why it cost so much.

Should only go one way with a clay bar. Clay bar doesn't "pull" anything out. Its a light abrasive, a step higher than wet sanding. Ceramic coating won't "lock" the swirls in, like he mythically explained at the beginning of the video, it fills in the voids and makes surface smoother. Now how much it fills in, and what you can actually see is anyones guess. I do agree, a buff job should be done before a ceramic coating. For the cut (yet another step above clay bar), a rotary should be used, not a DA like they did. The polish should be done with a DA. Important to know the difference between the 2, and proper uses. The photos you show of swirl marks is from a rotary, and most likely too harsh of a compound for finish work. Another pass with polish, and it will remove swirl marks (clear coat willing) The whole detail industry really likes making up marketing ploys; ie paint correction, "you need to be certified" (you really don't, it's a franchise thing. . . think McDonalds only certain people can make McDonalds burgers, but a homemade burger is better) The mark up on "Ceramic" is crazy. It would have taken me 15 or so hours to accomplish the same results, with about $300(really generous guess) in product. $2300 is an insane price. You got suckered.

Totally agree with you I did my f80 and its made a huge difference the car looks brand new. Just to let you know the swirl marks are from poor washing techniques and no technique at all the buff was done to correct the swirl marks again no technique then polish used to hide the shitty job they done so 1 don't go cheap on the detail check the reviews look at the quality of cars they do aswell as the job if it's a Instagram full OK 25k boy racer cars don't bother look to see if there doing top end cars top end prestige cars and the type of equipment they use if they got 3 inch for the edge work in very small spots make sure you do your home work on the guy that's doing the work 80% are cow boys and cannot polish a turd also learn to wash your car so you don't repeat the swirl the last owners or present owner put on last of all make sure you know they do the job right do your home work watch detail videos coz you think your good and it's gonna be mint coz I paid x amount but its big money shit job I just went to the best detail guy in my country = best job look into wich coating is being applied and Google it. Ever man and his dog are taking 1 week course and starting new business. 2 k to 3 k jobs lot of money to earn

Depends. Some can be more some can be less. Depends on how much the car needs, the skill of the shop, and the level of coating you get. Most important is to go to a legit shop. If it's the cheapest around I'd stay away from it. If you're anywhere near Utah let these guys do it.

That's on really high end. I would've removed all the lights and side trim, it's very easy and takes less time than taping them off. The amount of dirt that gets caked up behind there is crazy after 25 years.

Dude, DIY it yourself. If you can wash a car, you can clay bar it. Only go in one back and forth direction on each panel. Feel by rubbung your hand over the area clayed, when it feels like glass, you're done (pretty easy to tell. Don't get too crazy as you're literally wet sanding the clear coat) Get a buffer and some compound, start on a small part with the least abrasive compound/polish, and work your way up until you get the desired scratch removal. At whatever level you got the desired results, do the whole car. Then polish, ceramic coat, and wax(if desired) (once you get good, you can usually guess what level of compound to use)(Meguires makes about the best, Chem Brothers is good too) *compound is like sand paper, and the same theories apply. You can sand through a whole board with any grit, but 3000 grit will take a hell of a lot longer than 80 grit. And just like sandpaper 80 grit will show mad scratches, and 3000 will be a mirror finish Compounds are going to be your heavy grits. Polish's are going to be your fine grits.
