I feel so betrayed and enlightened at the same time because I watched the first two movies many times as a kid. I always thought the Shriekers were parasites that were a natural enemy of the Graboids. I assumed they grew inside the Graboids from something they ate, like in Alien's chest burster. Especially since the Graboids died so painfully when they burst out.

The Graboids were Cryptids, mythological beasts that people in a local community believe exist but have never been proven to exist. Pretty easy to assume that people wouldn't make the connections between an African cryptid and a NA animal that doesn't look anything like the legends. Yes random people would not know anything about it as Cryptids "hunters" are usually considered crazies.........(because most of them are)
@TonySamedi9 жыл бұрын
+Simon Ausmus Yeah that's my theory too. People just thought these African stories of the graboids were mythological legends. Only those from the area and those who have an obsession with tribal myths even knew of the myths existence. So to most of the world the attacks in the first Tremors movie is the "first" ever attack of the Graboids, because it's the first verified attack.
@brockthecryptozoologistc-f75517 жыл бұрын
Simon Ausmus im a cryptozoologist and you are right/wrong a cryptid is a creature whoes existence has been suggested but not completely proven also I do a cryptozoolgy series on my channel called the C-files (cryptozoology-files)
@kosaba117 жыл бұрын
Calling Graboids Cryptids is pretty accurate, since it's based on the Mongolian Death Worm. And honestly, if I had to point out a critique of this movie, it'd be that Thunderbirds (Which I'd believe Ass Blasters to be loosely based on, but only because they float and you could compare the pop of the blaster to thunder) are Cryptids native to North America and Canada (According to mythology and Cryptozology), not Africa. Had they instead called it a Roc, they'd still be geologically incorrect with their mythos, but it's at least closer.

@@TonySamedi the real reason is actually because stampede entertainment lost the rights to tremors by universal buying it from them they hate the new design so much that if they ever got the rights back they'd just pretend 5 and 6 never happened I personally think the new designs is what screwed universal out of the big profit the first 4 had and what caused many loyal fans to hate the new designs it's all good to change a design for a monster if it's only been in one movie but when the design is consistent in 4 movies then changing it will only screw you in the long run however it's unlikely that the og look will return as stampede entertainment will never be getting the rights back to the movie they spent years mastering the look of

A significant difference in appearence and behaviour in two populations that have been geographically isolated over 600 million years is not only plausible, but expected. The surprising thing is that they are so similar! And I would argue, yes, there is Shriekers in this movie, the free roaming grabbers is probably supposed to be a primitive form of the Shriekers. Nice review, I've always liked the Tremors franchise, they balance nicely between taking them self to seriously and being totally unrealistic.

I have a problem with assblasters themselfs. These ones included. Their design is too same-y for my taste and as decker mentioned in his review...strapping explosives to a creature of nurture is not a good idea. My idea for the next stage would have been if Metagross and the Sarlack did a fusion dance. Multiple shreekers combined into a single entity responsible for creating larval graboids. Then given it a few kilometers wide net of subterranean tendrils for catching prey, and hey presto, a new, fresh design that makes sense and raises the stakes

A couple points on the idea of "recorded history": Firstly, in pre-colonial times, South African history was passed down orally, from generation to generation. So these encounters with graboids would not be written down in history books. Why would the characters in the original movies know about a South African folktale? Europeans only got to that specific area of South Africa roughly 200 years ago. If the 300 year egg incubation rule applies to the graboidus africanus, it is possible these are the first people to encounter them in centuries, hence no written record, but an oral history exists. On a completely different note, this movie made me so excited. I'm a big Tremors fan, and seeing the graboids in my country was really cool.

I think I know why the Tremor's sequels manage to maintain some baseline level of quality as opposed to other drawn out monster movie franchises. They never go the easy route of making the characters dumb. Just like in the first movie the characters actually react productively when in danger by planning and coming up with counter strategies. Makes it so much more engaging than a bunch of idiots running around like headless chickens getting easily picked off.
@MaximumMadnessStixon6 жыл бұрын
I had an idea for a *Tremors* sequel years ago when I was in High School that I still like. It was called "Tremors: Suburban Slaughter" (Yes, I know it's corny- it's supposed to be), and basically, the first half of the movie would be a giant misdirect. It would be set in an average upper-middle-class town in Upstate New York, to give it some visual and tonal contrast with the rest of the series. Basically, the first 45 minutes would be a loving tribute and send-up of classic 80's John Hughes teen comedies. It would have all the classic, eclectic misfit characters as they slowly become friends the week before prom- the artsy loner with a heart of gold, the troubled bully whose actually not a bad guy, the shallow cheerleader who is learning the error of her ways, etc. But then, in the middle of the movie, as the classic mean-girl prom-queen is crowned... a fucking Graboid bursts up from the floor of the school's gymnasium and swallows her hole! Our group of teenage heroes run outside, only to be greeted by Burt Gummer, who has arrived in a giant armored truck and is armed to the teeth. As it turns out, ol' Burt has been tracking a group of Graboids that have been migrating to the East deep below the Earth's surface, but the noise from the prom attracted them and made them surface. So, it would be Burt forced to team up with a group of kids that he can't stand, and having to deal with a new terrain in order to hunt down and stop the Graboids. I dunno why, but I always liked this idea after it popped into my head.

Altho----does the new A-Blaster just look as if they flipped which end shoots fire? EDIT:Well if we can have different versions of cats, dogs, sharks, who says these creatures can't have different versions? They could be the great whites of the normal monsters. When another director wants to make his fan-fiction into a movie, even the original creators jump ship. Entertaining for what it was, not a great link in the Tremors chain. I remember starting off the film and thinking, "Ok, the trio of creatures are all right now but they still look cool, the graboid might even be a little beefier. I don't really see why people had a problem with this movie. Oh. OH. Oooohhh... I'm seeing it now." As you put it in other videos, "...the sequel quickly establishes that nothing in the previous films ever fucking happened!" Teased by beloved graboids, then yanked right out of Perfection and into Jurassic Aliens 5: Baby Daddy. I did spend the kitchen sequence saying, "Really?" A fun watch, not likely one I'll be putting into my collection though, not even for completion's sake.

I'm from the middle of nowhere in South Carolina originally. I live in the city now due to health and work circumstances. But I know the feeling

This was a good way to make the gravoids and shriekers dangerous again, in the lasts movies they were killing them by the dozen.

It lacked the macgyver thing they do in most movie - electrocuting the groubd didn't have that punch of eureka. Creatures lacked special aspects for the characters to change tactics and come out with some cool shit.

I like the redesigns....for something like an alien creature, not a Graboid or Assblaster. I liked the older designs better for those creatures
