He can still do every swim stroke, including Butterfly. And the density/buoyancy of the water will offset the joint motion. So, there is a world of fitness in the pool for people with this problem.

So does this patient have their left gluteus minimus and medius working inefficiently, causing the right hip to fall as they load their weigh onto their left leg?

The patient has left hip abductors (gluteus medius and minimus) weakness because of which they're not able to pull the hip on the left side leading to their sinking on the right side.

Its wrong, in trendelenburg's sign we observe an inclination towards the normal side ( the non-affected hip drops down ) and we see another inclination ( drops down ) of the shoulder in the opposite side .

I think it's wrong demonstration as in trendelengburg the pt lurched(depend on severity) to affected side to keep the pelvic straight in stance phase of unaffected one.Anyway thanks alot for your video.

You're thinking of Duchenne's limp, which is a compensation the pt does to avoid the gait shown in the video. The gait shown here is indicative of a positive Trendelenberg's test, so video is correct!
@mudasiral1956
@mudasiral1956 4 жыл бұрын
In Duchenne's gait the excessive anterior pelvic tilt, lumbar lordosis, sagittal pelvic tilt"double bump" and tip toe walking give the appearce the patient walking pushing his body in front of him and waddling gait, that is definitely different from which I meant.

What is it called when someone steps on the left leg and the left shoulder drops down? (Or right) I thought I had the Trendelenburg gait until I watched this video and saw this isn't my problem. Or maybe it is my problem but you are not showing the shoulder lowering because this person doesn't actually have Trendelenburg gait
@isabelalvarez4325

Maybe trendelenburg with compensation? your trunk is leaning over to maintain that center of gravity over your base of support

this is the gait guys not the sign.in the sign the patient stands on in feet.the feet above the ground which is the affected one will not be able to stabilise the pelvis,so it sags on ipsi lateral side. In gait demonstration,the patient is in motion,the trunk sways towards the affected side to compensate the sag.

This is not entirely correct. I have an L5 nerve damage on my right side, which means that I can not contract my right gluteus muscles properly on my right hip. So when I walk I drop my right hip on not my left hip! The gluteus muscle contracts and pulls the hip up on the OPPOSITE side! It is even visible that my hip is a bit dropped on my left side, just from standing and there is no weakness of my left gluteus muscle
@sunny4lady
@sunny4lady 3 жыл бұрын
@Himanshu Pandey I see my mistake. It is my left side of hip that drops due to malfancuntion of right gluteus.
@veganweighdown
@veganweighdown 9 жыл бұрын
"...his right hip drops down toward the affected side" and "...meaning their left hip abductors such as the gluteus minimus and gluteus medius are not working properly." In the gait the hip drops to the same side of the affected hip. Are you saying it drops to the opposite side?
@Ollieez
@Ollieez 9 жыл бұрын
+Cynthia Mosher In a Trendelenburg gait the affected hip (in this case, the left hip) remains stable whereas the contralateral hip drops when the patient puts their weight on the affected hip, this means the weakness in the gluteus max and min are on the left side.

there are diagrams of trendelenburg gait being compensated for, so if your doctor has to look it up (if you’re under 50 they probably will lol) they’ll probably see that. i’m not too sure though.

Iv found out I have a damaged or most likely severed superior glutinous nerve due to a 50ft fall I had 9 months ago, shattered a lot of bones etc ie, hip, pelvis, feet etc. I had a nerve conduction test that showed my superior glutinous nerve is not working at all and I’m in a wheelchair or I use crutches but I can walk a little without these but I walk like this and it’s so frustrating and I’m waiting on a nerve graft or surgery to hopefully repair this nerve I haven’t been givin alot of information yet and I need answers.. will I walk normal again? Will this surgery work? Can I still walk normal in time if this nerve is cut? What can I do to help? I really want to walk again 😭
